As an Aussie (and BCrim) I've heard about this case my whole life and studied it in uni. These crimes hit harder than many other places because while we're a geographically large country, it never really feels that way to us (and even more so back in the 70s and 80s). Ivan Milat was one of the most heinous killers the country has seen. Just as a friendly note, it's pronounced 'Mil-lat', not 'millet' (Or at least that's how we Aussies pronounce it).

Only a true monster would be willing to go to their grave without giving other families closure knowing they have killed their loved ones. Ivan Milat is truly one of the worst people who ever walked this Earth. If only the police had listened to Paul who knows how different this case could of been. Also - I always thought the tip given to police by Alex Milat was either to throw police off or it was actually given by Ivan using his brothers name. Alex could of possibly known about some of Ivan’s crimes and gave this tip knowing they would look into his family and it would lead to Ivan, he could of not wanted to directly implicate his brother out of fear or repercussion for himself from Ivan.

It’s a case all Australians are horrified by and I am sure I can speak for us all when I say we are glad this monstrous man has now died. His victims will be respectfully remembered forever. I know that Mike covers murders, some of them being so horrible you don't even want to think of it. Yet I can still be shocked by the sheer depravity of some of the acts committed. Theres no comparison between the serial killers and the people who commit only one crime of passion but something about looking at events in hindsight can really chill your blood knowing how all it can take is one trigger for everything to go wrong.

An ex of mine lived in the Southern Highlands and was an engineer - he got a call for an inspection up in Hill top one evening. He was alone at first and while waiting for his colleague to show up, he said the family living in the home were strange and he felt extremely uncomfortable. Then he noticed some letters on the table and he realised that he was in the Milat's home. Safe to say the next 20 minutes of waiting went by reaaaally slowly. lol! Also Mike: you should cover the story about Ivan's nephew - Matthew Milat. Another gruesome story...

@@mollyk5557 Actually black humour can be a very effective way for humans to deal with and process disturbing events. That's been widely accepted for many years in the fields of psychology and psychiatry. It's acknowledged as a very effective coping mechanism. But don't let that stop you from trying to feel morally superior to strangers as you casually accuse them of being callous!
@Venvaneless2 жыл бұрын
@@FlameFlickers the thing with black humour is, there’s always place and time. You wouldn’t tell such jokes at a funeral or around strangers who maybe don’t like these (which is okay too). But if you’re on the Internet or/and look specifically for true crime & keep coming back to a KZbinr although you don’t like that kind of humour it’s like “that’s on you”. I don’t mean anyone here specifically, just in general, ‘cause I hear often two extreme opposite opinions about either people “being disrespectful” for liking true crime content and the black humour that sometimes goes with it (I mean if you don’t like it, no one forces you to watch. Close the window and be done with it.) or others, who just offend someone and call it “humour” for the sake of it.
