God, I'm so glad Eliza Taylor got her flowers for her performance in "Eden". I remember the fandom was chomping at the bit to find out what happened to everyone and the decision to have a Clarke Solo Episode as S5E1 was a bit controversial, but Eliza absolutely ate it up. The scene where she finds Jasper's note still hits hard. S5 is a weird favorite of mine. I don't think it hits the same highs as 2 or 4 but I really liked that they were willing to shake up allegiances and change character motivations. Admittedly, it's a bit weird having the gap be six years when the rest of the show took place over like, six months or something, and there was definitely some whiplash in regards to characters. But it made for good TV at the end of the day. I adored Octavia in this season, everything about the Red Queen setup was so horrifying and made for such a good villain origin story. She's such a tragic character.

Great video as always! My only defense is that people say Clark acts too whack this season but to be fair she murders hundreds if not a few thousand people throughout the show depending on who you wanna count, and that’s before the 2nd primfiya comes. Then is the only one of her friends that gets left tf behind (granted she lives) but also tries to contact them in space an nothing and can’t get in the bunker and starts trying to find something and was alone and frustrated for so long before she finds Maddie that she was gonna kill herself. Not only did finding the valley save her but finding Maddie was what actually saved her because Clark can’t be by herself she needs a purpose and someone she can fight for that for I mean the last episode after everyone else ascended she literally says something like “is somebody here? No. Please tell me I’m not alone” before she finds the others on the beach. I think some of the stuff she does is dumb but it also isn’t out of character considering Maddy saved Clark and gave her the will to live again and gave her the thing she needs most- someone else she can “protect”

For me season 5 was the start of the end. I hate Maddie's character and Clarke was already getting really obnoxious in recent seasons but starting in this season she's just insane, really awful to everyone and so selfish. We get it girl, you have adopted a daughter. No need to destroy the universe over and over because of it. Octavia was made into a villain and yet she's way more relatable during and after the events. Whereas Clarke is just insane evil mode all the way to the end and she gets away with it. Absolutely mind blowing.

i totally agree that this season kinda stands on its own. cause like it defiently has a different vibe than the first four but also isnt really part of "part 2" of the show. i wish it could have been like the middle point of the show by having part 2 be longer (at least 4 seasons). i know is crazy since the last seasons are insane but i do feel we had a lot of set up to build up more story idk.

I really like season 5 actually! I was never a fan of Clarke but I didn’t dislike her either so the changes to her this series don’t really matter to me. I never loved Octavia or anything so I’m not one of the people that love this season because she gets to have fun. I just really like the set up of Spacekru as a found family narrative and them trying to find their place when things have gone to shit is really interesting and compelling, but then again I am a Murphy and emori fan so I enjoy their storylines this season a lot! The charcater moments this season especially with Monty and everyone is great. I like the way diyoza as an antagonist really lets the charcaters show off their dynamics!!! 6 charcaters being gone for 6 years jsut created such fun interpersonal conflict

Thing I don’t like is they praise Octavia but condemn Clarke like they parallel a lot with each other have to make the hard choices being pressured to do something and then it happens they others then go oh nooo that’s bad yet eith came up with the idea or strongly encouraged them to do it but when reality hits they pull out but the burden is already on either Clarke or Octavia, yet ppl see that with Octavia but not Clarke

i think both are different. In S5 Clarke is protecting 1 person the whole time. and Octavia is now the leader of 800 people. so With Octavia a lot of times she had no other choice. for example, if they had an implemented cannibalism, they most certainly would’ve all died. there aren’t really any do or die situations that Clarke and Madi have to deal with, Clarke just randomly stabs her friends in the back, which is why I think a lot of people despise her. Like i understand her motives don’t get me wrong but like girl Madi would’ve been fine with Wonkru there was no need for her to betray Bellamy at Polis at all and then subsequently help torture her friends in Shallow Valley.

@@cainvarner yes agree that Clarke was a bit messy in s5 and doesn’t like her changing sides every 5 mins but Octavia definitely did stuff that were way wrong like the whole worm situation, burning the algae causing she was spiteful as that could of been a way for them to live and not have to fight for a viable place to survive ( at least not right away ) , try and kill Clarke and madi with the worms , Clarke did have it good up top but I think before she found the green and where madi lived she had it bad aswell they all experienced a time where there was uncertainty but Clarke was completely alone and finding madi saved her brought back her humanity which she probably thought she would never have again due to all the things she did to save every on from s1-4 yet madi did so when that got threatened she panicked and made bad and wrong decisions like making deals with deoza , she was against, madi having the flame as she new it never ended well and she didn’t want that for madi , pleaded with Bellamy not to as there were still other options but her also betrayed but putting it in madi and especially condemning her , but they all messed up and yes definitely Clarkes chooses in s5 were to far and actually mad me stop watching for a while as it was annoying 🤣 but I was just saying ppl just ragg on her to much

my thing about this show is that i never quite understood the bellarke ship. when i originally watched this show it was so refreshing to see a really great platonic friendship between two main characters like them! only to see like a large portion of the fandom just wanting what every other tv show has 😓

This is EXACTLY my opinion about Bellarke. The funny thing was that during my first watch of season 1 I accidentally read something about bellarke being the main couple of the series, and as I was watching the show, I always assumed that they would get together at some point, even though I didn't want them to. Glad it didn't happen in the end

So much was romantic tropes that anybody that’s watched enough tv recognize. Even the actors played it as such. None of the other platonic relationships on the show were written like Bellarke. Even podcasters that were loud about not seeing Bellarke by season 5 said that Jason was baiting the audience. In the end he screwed the show and lost his exclusive deal with CW all because he tried to gaslight everyone into thinking they were crazy for the ship on top of the complaints about how horribly Lincoln’s death was handled.

This was the last season i watched. The video messages at the end made me cry but the new planet thing confirmed to me that this show had the same problem that had made me stop watching riverdale which was that instead of incrementally raising the stakes each season, the writers chose to raise them way too fucking high n by the end of s5 they had no choice but to go the route of aliens for the next season (i dont actually know 100% what the next seasons were abt but i vaguely recall having my alien suspicions be confirmed). It just felt like a run away train n i lost all interest in the show.
