Sorry, Adrian, I can’t watch this! As a Canadian living in Medicine Hat and who worked with the girl who cleaned out the truck, I can say Jasmine Richardson is a manipulative psycho who slit her brother’s throat but went on to get a free university degree while in jail for the shortest amount of time and now lives a free life! One her parents and brother will never have! This is a true miscarriage of Justice! Both Jeremy and Jasmine should both be in jail for life!

This vile girl slit her brother's throat and killed her parents, but she barely got punished. She went on to get a free university education, and now she's living freely. I don't think this is right. I’m glad you cleared up the common misconceptions that they met on VF and planned the murders there. I though about it. You see... I truly believe the love for a child does not go away after you pass on. There's even cases of the victim surviving their attacker- being that their attacker is a love one, and they find in their hearts to try to forgive and go on. Step by step. Some, that did not survive the attach of their offspring, wile dying, say to them: I love you. So, I believe that wherever the soul travels to, for a wile it still as connections with this world. And is probably, believe it or not, at peace. So it desires nothing more than everyone they loved in earth to be in peace too. To have a good life. They want the best for her. They did before, they still do after death. Its like when you pass you get this simplistic understanding of it all. Its part of the healing process to believe the murderer understood the seriousness of its actions, it is remorseful and is a good member for society. The judge saying that its shocking at first. But if you think about what it means in the big picture, is a sweet thing to say. I know the judge knows fully well what she was able to do. In details. The lighsaber her brother razed to defend himself from her... I teared up immediately. (and again I go...) Prisons are full of people that could be redeem but turn into more serious vicious criminals. One can only hope the focus on redemption that many societies take - such as Canada, does not contribute to the spread of evil. At least they are trying to turn an evil person into someone that can function in society.

Yeah, it's why I don't know if I agree with Canada's view here... And in reality, it's fairly hypocritical given the 23 year old gets life in prison for the same crime. He actually has a better argument towards extenuating circumstances than her, but apparently he is beyond rehabilitation... The 12 year old though? Without question! It's kinda the core issue with the juvenile justice system... I don't see a way of enforcing this view around rehabilitation in that system it that isn't hypocritical. One curiosity with this case, there is a horror movie from Canada (same country where this happened) called Ginger Snaps, about a gothic girl obsessed with dark culture when she is bitten by a werewolf and her slow transformation into a relentless beast, as her younger sister tries to save her from becoming a monster. The funny thing here is that this movie was made years before this case, in my opinion that story goes much more with the personality of Jasmine instead of Natural Born Killers, since she was goth and her boyfriend conquered her by telling her that he was actually a werewolf.

Hey Adrian, another tragic story that happened in Canada is the murder of Loretta Saunders, in Halifax NS. Her roommates murdered her and disposed of her body on the side of the highway. I currently live in the apartment building she spent her last moments in, and its an uncomfortable atmosphere every time I walk into the lobby. I think if anyone can give this case the attention and respect it deserves, its you.

Great instincts? More like luckily unlucky. He was a nosey kid peeking through a window. Think about all the other scenarios of what could've been seen, what if instead of a dead body he looked through that window and saw his friend's parents doing it on the washing machine, or got caught peeping in the window and got in trouble for it. Hell, he could've been killed. If I was in my basement minding my own business and I glance up to see a face in my basement window...I'm likely to shoot first and ask questions later. The first thing I'd be thinking is someone's trying to break into my home where my family sleeps. Not that my son's friend is looking through the window.

It’s never acknowledged until something like this happens And if prisons actually rehabilitated and didn’t treat them like dogs, a lot would come out better than they went in. Personally I think the death penalty should be required in certain cases cause some people can not be helped, once they are far gone and killing for the sake of killing, for their enjoyment, mass/ serial killings, pedophiles, and or really terrible crimes. There is no going back, but when it comes to kid who kill a lot of places will try and justify or not hold them accountable. They’ll find every reason to keep from putting them in jail, a lot of times they continue to do crime cause they can until they are 18. Then suddenly they see some how at that point reliable for their actions. Florida, USA is a great example of not holding kids/teens accountable.

This happened a two minute walk from my parents house. The Ross Glen community is so lovely - but I have driven past the Richardson house and it sends a shiver down my spine every time I do. To top it off, I remember when it was announced that she would be attending MY university. Completely under a different name. I think the Canadian justice system failed her parents and her brother. I agree with getting mental help for her… but having her record expunged and her being able to live a relatively normal life after what she did? It doesn’t sit right with me.

I lived in Medicine Hat when this happened. Truly horrifying this would happen. A couple of weeks prior, I had talked to Mrs Richardson. She groomed dogs and I had an appointment for our chihuahua. At the last moment I canceled and Debbi was gracious, I felt bad for short notice. 10 days later, I heard what horror what happened to her and her Family. I went to school with Jeremy and the way your describing him makes him look sane compared to how crazy he really is. But also Jasmine definitely had a major role to play in this. Pretty much anyone who lived here at the time thinks she feigned remorse during her incarceration to appease the judge. There was so much outrage when we learned of her light sentencing. One detail you missed was not only because of being a minor did she have a maximum allowable sentence BUT also she was too young for the provision of being tried as an adult to be enacted. Her family home sat empty for more than a decade before it got sold. One person had it briefly but on account of a door in the basement always creaking open in the night despite being firmly shut they quickly left on account of the belief of it being haunted.

Adrian, Jeremy most definitely will see the light of day again! Canada is absolutely one of THE most lenient countries in the world. Ther was another case of a Canadian murderer who got day release not 10 years into his’life’ sentence. I hate the ‘good behavior’ early release. Do you know how easy it is especially for men who’ve killed or viciously abused a woman to have good behavior in a men only jail, no stress, meals provided and zero access to women? That’s why so many men do the same thing or worse when they get out and start another relationship! Any violent criminal will not change unless their jail time also includes mandated counseling which at least in the US is rare!

Sociopathic children do exist.. this child is a prime example of one. They cannot be rehabilitated… they will never change. What is more scary is the probability that she herself has watched this episode and every other one about her case, while most likely “gloating.” Beyond sickening.

@@nhmooytis7058 , A lot of psychopaths go into politics, law and medicine - because they love to have power over other people. They can make hard decisions because they don't feel for those affected by them. She might have gone that route if she hadn't met the pedo boyfriend.

I don’t think her criminal record should have been expunged. Even if she is remorseful and rehabilitated, I think it’s scary to imagine a person with a expunged criminal record walking amongst us. Especially, since she had a active.

Unfortunately it was expunged. One detail he didn't mention in the story was not only is there a maximum amount of years that a child can be put in prison but also a minimum age that must be met where a child in certain circumstances may be tried as an adult which she also hadn't reached. They wanted to try her as a adult to avoid the laughable minimum sentence she received but they couldn't do that. Their hands were unfortunately tied. I'm from medicine hat and went to school with Jeremy so I'm very familiar with lots of the details with this case. There was an uproar around here when ppl heard she'd be free so soon, and with a good education and clean record too.

I came across a comment from a guy who claimed that the dealer he is taking goods from has a girlfriend who looks like her, she was also supposed to show up in town according to when she was released. Apparently, she is helping cover this guy's business.

It seemed like Jasmine was seeking someone deluded and dangerous before she met this man. Her interests on her profile included gruesome stuff and her “hero” was Jeffery Dahmer. I think she would have kept looking for anyone to harm her family. She was born insidious and more than likely still is. Her mother and father plus brother would look down upon her with shame. The three of them would’ve been a happy family had she been terminated from birth.

I think that sentence is wild. As she got older and realized how people responded to her actions, she may have just learned how to cover up her facial expressions showing how she truly felt, manipulating people into thinking she felt real remorse. She could just be a highly skilled actor/ psychopath and now she's benefiting from her manipulation skills. We all manipulate to get what we want sometimes but actions speak louder than words. If someone ever had the urge to kill their whole family and actually act on it, I don't think that person will ever be stable enough to be around other people. That's just a lost cause in my opinion. I do hope that's not the case, for others sake.

It was stated that her parents were getting in the way of their love. Why did they kill her little brother? They deviated from that, and that sucks even more. He didn't have anything to do with it.
