Tractor Supply and Big R carry the spring clips that retains the ball, if you don't find one any where else good places to get them. Also Ace hardware carries them as well if no Big R or TSC local to you.

I think I misunderstood something and I’ve re watched a couple to try to understand. I sounds like you had a split case but didn’t do any machine work on it, does that mean you didn’t line bore it, or did you bolt it back together, empty and measure it, and didn’t line bore it because it checked out. I recall you saying any time the case is split a line bore is required. What would be exceptions to that? Thanks for all you do, I have a much better understanding of VW drivetrains, thanks to you sharing your knowledge and experience.
