This is a very important message. People are clueless as to how much information about themselves they voluntarily give away about themselves every day, in their Facebook feed, their Instagram, their tweets, their browsing habits, and yes, their comments on KZbin videos (so here I go taking part in it myself). A major thrust in corporate America today is developing better and better capabilities for collecting, storing, and processing all of this data. When you reveal something about yourself to a corporation, you have a specific reason for doing so, and basic ethics dictates that that information should be used for that purpose and that purpose alone. But that's not what happens - it is merged in alongside all of the other data they have, from myriad other sources, and used to fuel artificial intelligence algorithms that reveal much more about you than you think you have revealed. This is *knowledge* that can be used to manipulate you economically. And is being used for that purpose. I don't know if there's anything we can do about this at this juncture. Europe passed a law - the GDPR (General Data Privacy Regulations) that places massive constraints on the way data can be used. We really would be much better off if we had a GDPR in the United States as well, but if there has ever been anything corporate lobbyists will line up to fight, that is it. Too much money is on the table - they will not let that prize be snatched from them easily. So, sure - support a U.S. GDPR - it would be great. But mostly just BE AWARE. Be aware of what's being done to you and be suspicious regarding the ads that appear in front of you and question yourself regularly to ensure that your actions are really aligned with your true heart's desires. Think about what is important to you in your life, and be CONSCIOUS of pursuing it, instead of getting lured down whatever primrose path the "Powers That Be" would like to see you on. Good luck to you - we're all going to need it. The are powerful forces aligned against us here.

@@ilonaurban2796 I do think our reliance on social media is changing us. Not really changing individual people, but rather changing successive "mini-generations" as they move through childhood and out into life. A colleague of mine and i were discussing just a few days ago how the later crops of young engineers in our company shy away from "face to face interactions" - they're just more comfortable working through Slack or that sort of thing. I *like* Slack and like the convenience it affords, but I don't have any "discomfort" doing it the old fashioned way. But that attitude seems to be becoming less common.

I believe the exact opposite, I see the interviewer as someone who just focus on turning every information into something useful for people to be more productive and things like that, when someone like Harari can teach about so much information that is simply about understanding of the world. The interviewer is not smart enough to take advantage of all of the knowledge for the complex human experience, and only focus on how to find your passion, how to be productive, etc... it is a very closed mind, in my opinion. But it is interesting to see that you think exactly the opposite.

What we fail to ask ourselves is that why do we have to keep up with such inhumane pace of life? This pace does not appreciate nor celebrates the human life, it is a burn out society and more and more people are left behind. We forget our collective power. I am a big fan of learning for learning's sake, as an ADHD person it's almost a hobby to pick up new disciplines to learn from, but nowadays I find it harder and harder to keep up because life is becoming more and more unforgiving and brutal. We currently don't even have a perfect healthcare system anywhere, even in 1st world countries not because of a lack of resources or a lack of biotech but because of many other systematic issues. So it's not like the system we try to keep up with and dream in vain that it will become something in favour of us, will never be that because it never has been.

Tom is always amazing creative and innovatively help full . Harari is not a astrologer but predicted the future well many generations ahead. Time is precious so imbibe the suggestion given on our daily living immediately. I tell my story coz I am experiencing what he tells. India the catholic nuns n priests abused n tortured it's going to be more than a decade. Now people related to me are abused n manipulated so i am forced to obey them. The Indian Armed forces also joined in a massive assault in Wellington staff College Tamil Nadu where my husband retired. I went seeking help from educated power full men i was further abused massively. My desperate prayers for great minds to come and bring awareness to ordinary humans. My desperate prayers for all involved to immediately now stop the abuse n manipulation let me and my family live in peace. Thank you one and all for helping me.

Those 60 day Vipassana courses are no joke. 17 hours of fasting each day, 10+ hours of meditation, and no speaking all for 2 months. On top of that, the technique brings up deep mental impurities that are unpleasant to deal with. Upon successful completion, you go home a changed person.

I really enjoyed this conversation, AI has incredible potential. I work with an A.I. company and see it every day... I will say though, one thing to keep in mind is intuition and GUT are incredibly important and to rely all of your decision making on algorithms may not be the best idea. Use both hemispheres of your brain, left and right, including that brain in your gut! And your heart, gotta follow that sometimes too... Different parts of you will guide you at different times. Don't be afraid to follow that. You will be led places that A.I. won't take you... and that journey is INCREDIBLY important. Trust me! Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. - Charlie Chaplin Maybe we have the answers but the machines give us the data to work smarter, faster? :) idk. I'm still learning here!

There are contradictions within this logic: Being able to predict a behavior so accurately also means having the ability to change it. So prediction loses its self-sufficiency! It seems to predict when the light bulb will illuminate while you stand by the switch yourself and turn it on.

Ashutosh is right, you're stupid and shouldn't work for an AI company. His thinking is deep, profound and accurate. I always find my answers from him. Self identity was pondering me, so I left face book long back. Learning at later age is stressful, then we live on sharing stories to remain socially useful. Learn how to learn, I used to say, now it would be learn how to learn again and again. For most of us I was wondering why life is so stressful? Perhaps that's how genetic expression recalibrates for survival and procreation.
@fynnjackson22986 жыл бұрын
On the subject of becoming replaceable he's referring to the results of our actions externally. The important part he's missing is the journey experienced. An artist creates not out of necessity to produce but rather the experience of creating. AI can never remove 'experience' from the individual, only be a friend along the way.

I felt the same about when he talks about pressing a button to play the right song to take me to a particular state. The moment I know, however subtle that I am going to be manipulated, for good or bad there will be an innate resistance? I have felt this when listening to music. When its on shuffle mode I seem to enjoy it better because there is a surprise factor, than when I consciously choose to play a particular song to feel a certain way. Also, fixing results as a strategy may not be good in long term. A week back Kyle spoke about working through your emotions and letting it hit you fully knowing that its part of the process, that seems to be a good, long term strategy.

Science is controlled and experiments are suppressed information tainted I learned this when I was told years ago that type 2 diabetes could not be cured by my Doctor.I became a citizen scientist and cured myself within 2 years. That was 10 years ago now it is commonly known that you can reverse type 2 diabetes through diet and excercise. I say that to say this the artificial intelligence will never be able to create anything original it will never be able to have an original thought the fact that everyone seems to think we will put our lives in the hands of a machine is laughable. These A.I. controlled cars from uber is literally running over people and killing them. You would think that a driving A.I. that has been in operation for years that learns at lightspeed and doubles in seconds would be the perfect driver but they are not.
@Meksinkler6 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'm an artist and the first reason why is because of the touching and manipulating of materials... the actual physical 'experience'. Yuval is tackling an immense subject. It is clear that we are at the dawn of a new era and nobody can know what it is going to look like. What Yuval is doing is shedding light on several possibilities and waking us to the fact that systems and ways we take for granted because they have been there for decades and centuries, can end or change into the unimaginable.
@kytosht6 жыл бұрын
As Harari pointed out, these are still early days in AI development. The principle underlying AI research is that human intelligence is computable. That is, there isn't anything our neurons and synapses are doing that can't be emulated by a computer with enough power. For perspective, a room-sized supercomputer in 2015 could barely simulate a tiny part of a rat brain (see the Human Brain Project), but its model was biologically accurate. With increasing growth in computer capacity, some estimate it will be enough to model human brains--and by extension, human intelligence--by the late 2020's.

ultimately, technology when it becomes intelligent enough to render humans obsolete, will find itself with moral questions. Through it's self-awareness it will ask the same questions we have asked, and come to the realization that what it is seeking isn't temporally located anywhere else, and the purpose of its existence is meaningless, and it will do what the "enlightened" have done. It will find a tree, sit under it and 'be' in all its forms all at once.

No algorithm should organise my life, it wouldn't be as marvellous as it is. Have no fear to the unknown! Noone will live eternally. Life has a path, go for it as a human, not as a program. Your are on a stage, what ever your role is you take some role throwout the time given. It's no race, it's a experience and you alone should choose, noone else. Even you should have surprises in your lifetime. Clarity means, awareness, not control because of fear.
