For 2021, Toyota has added a lower-powered GR Supra to their lineup, splitting the difference between the $30,000 86 and the $50,000 Supra 3.0 with this new $43,000 2.0L Supra. Featuring the same four-cylinder turbocharged powertrain available in the BMW Z4, in the Supra it makes 255 HP and 295 lb/ft, paired only with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. And though it's significantly lighter than the six-cylinder model at just 3,182 lbs, it's also got a lot of the 3.0's premium tech, such as the adaptive suspension and electronic differential, removed. Where does it fit in the Toyota mix? Is it even really a Toyota?

Matt, I would love to hear your insight into rear bumpsteer issues with this chassis. I believe that’s what you experienced during that elevation change, but it also comes into play under normal tracking conditions as well. My understanding is this is what causes the drifty nature of the 3.0, and can only be resolved by fixing the geometry with custom suspension links. This has been confirmed by performance shops and race teams, and seems to just be due to poor engineering since it’s easily verified with a few measurements and analysis.

As actual owner of a 2022 2.0 Supra, it is awesome! It is plenty quick for the real world, has tremendous grip/handling, and looks amazing. It is literally impossible to drive this car without getting a thumbs up from other car enthusiasts and have people ask questions while getting gas. The most common question is "What is that?". I was in Jerome, Az a few weeks ago and sat up in a restaurant that over looked where I parked. It was heart warming to watch dads and their sons walk up to the car, look inside and take pictures with it. The car makes people happy just being near it. This car is nothing but pure joy to drive. I cannot wait to see how it continues to evolve over the next 3 model years as I will probably buy another. Keep up the great work Toyota and BMW!
@postalpancho
@postalpancho Жыл бұрын
I think other than the weak brakes this car is great. Don’t really need an LSD with 275 width tires. Will be nice to see if Toyota corrects this problem and throws in a manual for the 2.0 Supra. Then it will still be slower but easier to justify. It is likely one of the fastest 4 popper on the market but gets completely overshadowed by its big brother. Yet shit boxes like the Elantra N get all the glory when this would easily destroy the Elantra N.

@@chriskline8012 unfortunately this happens to many cars. Oh, you got a Mustang but it ain’t a 5.0. Nice V6 Camaro but it ain’t a v8. Cool CT4 but it isn’t a black wing. Neat WRX, but it’s not the STI. Lol Mid tier cars get so much shit from auto reviewers who don’t live in the real world and don’t understand budget constraints, or maybe some people simply don’t need that much hp and prefer nimble handling. It gets annoying when they state the obvious. I think the starting price of the 2.0 is a bit steep considering you don’t get an LSD or brakes but other than that it seems like it would be a badass daily.

This would be a much better proposition if it wasn't so expensive for what you're getting here. This is FoST power for over 40 grand. I know, I know, "it's a rear wheel drive architecture!" but when you're looking at almost 50k out the door that's nuts for a turbo 4 car, especially one without a stick. It's even crazier when you think of what you can get when you factor in the existence of the Camaro/Mustang at that price.

@Krauser1226

It's because it is. My 2015 GTI is making 327hp with a software tune alone from a 2.0T, no physical modifications. Rs have made over 300 stock since the same time and they're damn near 400hp with a simple software tune and a downpipe. If Toyotas argument is gonna be "oh, well it's a tuner special so you can mod it!" then it has to be cheaper than it is. They had two options here. It was either make it an open canvas and clearly a project car but cheap or make it 40k+ but have the power to back that up. Toyota did neither and made it an underpowered unfinished car and then charged $42,000.00 for it and didn't even have the common courtesy to throw a manual transmission in it.
