Snowflake White is the perfect contrast for the oversized cladding on the CX-30. It works for me!

Cx-30 turbo. Made in Mexico. $38k. Cx-5 turbo premium Made in Japan. $38k. Huh? Nincompoop is a super polite word for the guys that pace trucks in the right lane beside them and block traffic or those that travel at 50 in the passing lane.

It's almost criminal that the chrome trim & silver roof rails on these black wheel/mirror versions aren't also blacked-out by Mazda at the factory. I had to do it myself on my 2022 Carbon Edition CX-30, & it looks soooo much better than the stock factory chrome/silver version.

I leased one of these (Turbo) in hopes it would come close to a raised hot hatch. Nope! I’ll be swimming upstream with you lol. After a few months, I realized it didn’t do anything really well. It didn’t function as a crossover SUV. I am pretty sure a GTI has more space or at least it feels like that. Also, throw this in to an Ohio pothole, and you’ll be looking in your rearview mirror for suspension parts. The cheap architecture shows its face eventually. I ended up trading it in for a Rogue with different expectations and it’s awesome! Same price. Great review, I look forward to more!

The CX-30 already has competition within the Mazda brand, i.e the Mazda 3 hatchback and the CX-3. They have a similar issue with the CX-5 and CX-50, but Mazda has discontinued the 6, and they never sold the Mazda 6 wagon in the US in both the 2nd and 3rd generation.
@BernonCars Жыл бұрын
Good points. It’s interesting seeing where their lineup is going
@differencemaker242 Жыл бұрын
Mazda no longer sells the CX3 in the U.S. And there really is no competition between the 3 and the CX- 30. The CX30 outsells the 3 about 4 to 1. It is approaching 10k sold per month. The 3 does about 2k per month. I'm pretty sure Mazda doesn't care since they're both coming off the same platform. They're likely looking at total profitability from that platform. At this point, everybody understands that SUVs outsell all other kinds of vehicles.

Great video. I briefly considered a CX-30 last year, but realized I could never live with the excessive cladding, which ruins the looks (how good would this car look without the cladding, though?). The lack of IRS, small gas tank, and mediocre passenger/cargo space were also turnoffs. Sitting next to it in showrooms is a vehicle that solves these problems (OK, maybe not all--the fuel tank is bigger, but still too small) while offering all the good stuff Mazda fans like: the CX-5, which is a bit more expensive, comparably equipped, but not by a lot. Wish Mazda would differentiate the CX-30 Turbo by making a version to compete with the Kona N, with body color-painted cladding and a manual transmission...
@BernonCars Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah the cladding is absolutely insufferable!!! Many downsides to it. I definitely would look at others in the segment! LOL

There was a time Mazda was going to start an up market division similar to what Acura is to Honda. Now it seems their strategy is to place the whole brand in that category…slightly below the premium brands and above the more pedestrian ones. I think it may work in light of their focus on driving experience and reliability.😊
@BernonCars Жыл бұрын
I remember watching a documentary about that brand! I forgot the name. Starts with an A I think lol. It very much does seem like that though! I wish Mazda well

I think it was to be the Armani brand with the Millenia as its first model. It didn't happen because of the Japanese financial crisis Mazda is positioned as a premium brand now. I hope they can stay the course
