I like the fact that it is a slow seller. That's what makes it really unique. You don't see one at every stop light like the Corolla, Honda Civic, Mazda CX5. But the Mazda3 Hatchback is rare and that's what makes it stand out from the rest.

@@mezzb yes! I agree, completely. The A Class is intended to bring new customers to the otherwise “unattainable” MB brand. And at that, I think the overdid a lot of features that may be appealing because… they’re shiny and bright? 🤔. I liked MB of yesteryears for their simplicity, no nonsense design which took departure from that in the mid 90’s. My cousin has a 2019 S Class and the thematic of the interior is very nicely put together with premium materials and technology but in the case of the A class is too much bling. It did improve what the CLA used to be but I still wouldn’t buy one. I’m waiting to see what the CX-70 brings, thinking of the amazing CX-90 but in a 2 row as we don’t need that third row. I’d be our first Mazda.

I honestly don't care much about touchscreen. I think people hate it from a distance, but most Mazda customers seem fine with the dial and using voice controls. Wireless AA/CarPlay would be great, and I hear the new one will get a larger screen (which likely would include touch, ironically). I currently own a 2020 Mazda3 6MT. I wish the M3 got mentioned in other reviews (GTI, Civic hatch) like those get mentioned here. GTI has less cargo space, similar MPG and lacks AWD (If we're comparing the turbo. If not, the NA 3 gets better MPG with less power) and yet those points are missed when complementing the Mazda. There are tons of these things in Texas, and ironically most I see are the MT version across all generations. It's the more reliable, though less capable, hot hatch, and looks better imo.
@woodenshoe788
@woodenshoe788 Жыл бұрын
I don't understand what the big deal is with the size of the screen? Shouldn't you just pay attention do driving and not how big the screen is? And honestly I would prefer not to have a touch screen as it would need to be cleaned of finger prints every other day. As someone who drives a vehicle that gets 16mpg even if I'm behaving myself, the mpg's of this car would be a nice change. Good looking car, and the new CX90 looks great too.

Owned the 2021 version of your tester, which I truly loved. People don't talk about that torque enough - if you suddenly needed to accelerate, you'd just take off, no hesitation. @@NOFATCHICK1 Integra is slightly quieter (neither is really luxury-car level quiet), slightly better ride. I notice the Integra's adaptive suspension - I can tell the difference between sport and comfort, the mazda 3 doesn't have those options. I also like the integra interior more (less piano black, materials I like better), but they're very close. Other big difference is mpg - I get a solid 8+ extra mpg out of the Integra (roughly 36 mpg in mixed driving vs. 27 or 28 in the Mazda).

FWIW, I had a 2015 2.5 GT Mazda 3 hatch (drove it 45k miles) and loved it. I traded up to a 2018 2.5 GT hatch (drove it 39k miles) and really loved that even more. I finally traded up to a 2021 AWD turbo (driven it 22k miles) and it's been a love-hate relationship for me. The turbo was a long overdue improvement and dedinitely adds a lot to the driving experience. Plus some nice little improvements over my two previous hatches. However, the change from an independent to a torsion beam rear suspension is a real disappointment and makes for a very uncomfortable and jarring ride over bumps or pavement gaps. Front end handling isn't quite as nimble or crisp as my 2015 or 2018 hatches. There's also a noticeable drop in highway gas mileage between the AWD turbo (30+ mpg) and my two previous NA hatches (45 mpg+). And while the Soul Red Crystal paint is beautiful to look at, durability (paint chips) is even worse than the standard Soul Red paint on my two previous hatches. I still love the Mazda 3 hatch, but not loving the new suspension or the Soul Red Crystal paint. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend test driving one if this is what you're looking for.

I've got a deposit in on a Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch just like this one here (Premium Plus in Soul Red Crystal). Car is in transit to the dealership and should be here in a couple of weeks. This is just what I was looking for - a comfortable daily driver with some sporting intentions. While I would prefer a manual, my wife has to be able to drive it to so an auto is what's needed. And since it's just the two of us, the lack of space in the rear seats is a non-issue. Hey there! So I’m a long-time Mazda buyer with a Mazda3 & Miata in my driveway. I’m very VERY happy not to have to deal with a touchscreen. As a matter of fact, I really hope touchscreens eventually die in a fire; it’s not a functionality that I want, but most importantly having to touch a screen means taking your eyes off the road. It’s the very reason why cellphone use is outlawed and it’s just a matter of time touchscreens are given the same boot. I hope Mazda continues with a touchless screen and rotary knob + a couple of simple buttons. Very easy to memorise and requires far less involvement. Also, that in-dash screen is more than big enough. After all, it’s not a movie theatre; it’s a car that’s trying to involve you in the driving experience. Infotainment needs to be far removed from the experience and get people to interact with the car dynamically rather than being entertained. We have bus passes for that. Sorry if I sound sour, but I really hate where the industry is heading and how people keep demanding to be entertained while they’re supposed to be driving. Cars need to do the driving thing better and the entertainment thing far less. I do wish Mazda made the 3 a sportier vehicle and bring back IRS, while the larger cars could retain the focus on comfort. People who chose a Mazda3 are usually the type of people to demand a more involving driving experience at the cost of utility; otherwise they would have picked a CUV offering which isn’t a considerable amount more. An ND2 Miata engined-Mazda3 would have been a very cool proposition, but I’m also looking up to Mazda to develop a PHEV Mazda3 that has a strong emphasis on lightweight driving pleasure, all while offering a good 50km of all-EV range.

Nice review. I have an MX-5 30AE and, unlike you, I prefer the hands-free touchscreen. The commander knob & controls work quite well, and I think NOT having to touch the screen and devote more of my brain to interact with it is definitely the safer, less distracted way to go. I’m not interested in driving an “iPhone on wheels” which, alas, is what most vehicles are becoming. Also, I love having a screen free of dirty smudges and fingerprints. Everyone hates those on a piano black finish; why do touchscreens get a pass?

On handling alone (I live in mountains) the Civic smoked the Maz 3. And being a Lotus Europa kind of driver, Honda WON. All in all, for Kansas (or Saskatchewan) drivers, this is a winner.

I'm a huge Mazda 3 fan, especially the turbo, however Imo, I think the 4th gen Sedan body looks better than the Hatch. You mentioned the poor fuel economy, but to me the small fuel tank in combo with it was a huge misstep on Mazda's part. Some EV'S get a better range than this Mazda 3 Turbo. A 12.7 gal. capacity is way too small. NA fwd models only have a 13.2 capacity, however, the fuel efficiency is substantially better. Of course, most don't purchase a sport compact vehicle with fuel economy in mind.

I have a 2023 hatchback turbo and I like its exterior and interior design, as well as good power and four-wheel drive. I have been using it for about half a year. Since I got it, I have found that its steering wheel is crooked. I went to three different Mazda dealerships to have the wheels aligned, but its steering wheel is still not straight. In addition, its biggest flaw is the poor build quality of interior materials. Its driver's seat has deformed rattles, dashboard trim has debonded rattles, B-pillar rattles, door panel rattles, and its interior is disappointingly like a can. Regarding mazda3 interior rattles, this is no secret, many reports can be found online, so if you have OCD, please buy with caution. I also have a 2023cx5. In comparison, the cx5 undoubtedly has very good build quality, which also explains why the cx5 is Mazda's best-selling model.

Mazda is right with the screens tho! Touchscreens do not make sense when the vehicle is moving.... however give us the option to use either or... humans can be different from one another and ever person has their preference. However one othe thing.... give us a dedicated button to turn off the assist systems in every car! That should be mandatory like airbags... i shouldnt have to look for that crap in a screen if it is actually engaging in my driving or trying to keep me in a lane even tho it may just be reading the lines wrong..

The constant nit picky hate on the rotary dial for the infotainment is getting old. For the ones who own a Mazda, you understand the feeling of getting in a car without it. In any other car, it feels dumb extending your arm up all the way up there to flick a screen many times when the alternative is a relaxed position (Mazda). Rotary dial / the buttons around it are superior. Period.
