After watching this video a few times and taking notes, I went to the range for just the second time in my life (after a completely miserable and discouraging first-time experience) and implemented these tips. I was absolutely astonished by the results and could not believe the difference after just a few shots. I actually found myself swinging with accuracy and even hit the pin I was aiming for about 80 yards out with my 9 iron! Thank you so much for this video!

As a life long baseball player, I have been loading up and swaying back to my back foot. I had no idea you were suppose to have most of you weight on your front foot and rotate your hips. That's a huge tip for me, thank you!
@shawnagunn90546 жыл бұрын
Logan Merrick i had to cut a tennis ball in half and put under heel of my lead foot. That helps to make sure all weight is even on both feet. Not on toes or heels. And that helped me learn to shift my weight and get more power in my down swing.

Dude, same here! Life-long baseball player who could have made it pro. I never realized that swaying and loading to the back foot were detrimental. Constant topping! One day, I just planted my feet, kept my head still, rotated my hips and learned how to distribute weight to the front. Boom! Got it nailed! The game is so much more enjoyable now. Played 9 holes the other day and did not top 1 ball and hit my irons pure and not far from the pin.

It’s rough going from a baseball swing to a golf swing. Played probably 80 games and season with club and trying to change that muscle memory is so difficult. Once I was able to make the adjustment, I could finally compete with my friends and not lose 10 balls a round. The struggle was real but I appreciate the craft more now!

If you're reading this in 2019 .. best thing to work on is your grip at first. I can't explain how much this helped me understand the swing. Also, do "full swings". So that you can see the club head with your peripheral vision (left eye for right hand golfers). This will help you start to understand what the club feels like when it hinges in your hands. If you continually focus on practicing this.. I PROMISE... you will become better at golf. I sucked for 4 years until I finally told myself enough is enough. I went and pitched/putted on the practice green for 3-4 hours a day, developing a full swing while maintaining correct power for the shot I was taking. Like a great man once said "It's all in the hips".

Went to the range a few weeks ago for the first time and remembered how frustrating golf was and wondered what the hell was I thinking deciding to play golf again...then I found your videos and your book The Bad Lie, and everything changed for the better at the range and not a frustrated, each visit gets a little better and better. Looking forward to playing my first round this week with more confidence and not discouragement. Thank you, for your videos and your book...you definitely have taken the "stupid" out of the golf swing for us experienced golfers. Hi, Todd. This has been an especially helpful video, and I am going to work those drills. A helpful video if you can make would relate to neck position. I can actually turn farther than I do, but my neck is rather stiff so turning too much pulls my head around so the ball jumps out of my glasses and I miss hit. I saw your comment about head position aimed behind the ball, but if I turn it leftward then I can backswing farther before the ball jumps out of my vision. Thanks for all you do for us. When you were showing the balancing it seemed quite far down and I am wondering if was to show the effect, or if that was the correct location.

Good question, there should be around 1/2 inch between the back of the lead hand and the top of the grip. Better to move the hands down than grip on the very end of the club. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info on taking off. It's been 10 years since I've played competitively, and I cannot remember how to take off from the ball. In short, I've been taking off low and shifting my waist which is very inconsistent. Also, good point on the grip. I believe the grip is one of the most important techniques. If your grip is off, it's hard to feel comfortable with every shot.

Todd, great information on how to keep the golf swing as simple as possible. Now if I own an Impact Snap trainer and I watch what you do at impact and what that device teaches at impact, don't you need to "flip" a little at the bottom of the swing to "release" at impact?
@USGOLFTVshow2 жыл бұрын
There is some release of the wrists to get the clubface back to a neutral position. The real KEY is the timing of this release. Done too early, and you will struggle with contact and distance...done too late and it will be difficult to get proper loft on the ball.

Todd, when talking about a short left thumb in the grip I have a different variation. I have the tip of my left thumb touch the tip of my left index finger and I check to see it is correct if the “v” formed between my thumb and index finger points over my right shoulder. What do you think?

I learned to grip the good club by interlocking my thumb on my left hand with my pinky on my right. What are your thoughts on that?
@USGOLFTVshow4 жыл бұрын
CBIPandK interesting, that is a style I am not familiar with. I guess if to works and is producing the results you want then stay with it, if not, give these ideas a try. Thanks for posting!

Just came across this video. Great video. I started playing golf last year and I can’t seem to hit consistently. Any other helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

I have trouble trying to get a good shot out of a fairway bunker - - particularly if it is a relatively long shot. I could use your help with this.

You bet George, here you go: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoHWlGWOZ7SErrc This video also discusses hitting a flop shot and getting out of trees as well, hope the info helps!

Am an old guy and I am pleased to admit that I know those 5 tips, but I was teaching my brother out on the range and I told him that he should check your site out in which he did, then he got back to me to inform me that you only showed half of the proper golf grip - no position of the right hand had been shown - Just thought I would let you know as there are some not so dum out here. But great tips and tuition for all those that tune in!

I did the 60/40 weight with my left foot for years and I was told that it was wrong in what I was doing as sometimes my hips got too far ahead on the downswing resulting in straight shots going well left! Good to view a lesson which differs from other coaches! Many thanks - I will get back to this set up!

I find pulling the Club straight back from the ball and kee98ng the Club a little lower pn back swing helps . Pulling Club up off of ball makes for a harder swing plane.

What about putting left hand thumb to the side of the grip? Was told this lightens the grip. Thanks

Christopher Kane interesting...it makes sense...how has it worked for you?

@@USGOLFTVshow it was explained to me that the thumbs are strong and can guide the club too much if "on top" . I tend to grip hard, so it has helped.

Thanks for this video! The biggest take away for me was the grip to help me in my practice session yesterday at the range.

I think the reminder not to sway the hips and to rotate is key. I will try that tip today. As a beginner and tall man I’ve just bought oversized clubs and last night, first time out, I kept hitting the top of the ball. Direction is there, but not striking the ball clean. Should I be squatting down into it more?
@USGOLFTVshow4 жыл бұрын
Ronan McMillan yes, the rotation vs the sway is a key to great golf, be sure to let us know how it goes. 👊

Fantastic golf tips, I just subscribed. Happy new year My main problem is over hitting putting too much power in my arms to make the ball go further It does go far but no consistency. I have been told it’s faster rotation from the hips and weight transfer not the arms is that correct?

Superutubeking thanks for watching and the comment. What is the direction is the ball curving?
