These videos always inspires me no end. I just turned 42 but I feel 24 again and I blame M20XX and A20XX programs. Another great side effect of doing movement training and animal flows is this: By seeing their old man jump, crawl and slither around, my kids continue to do so. So many of their peers are starting to 'grow up' -spending time 'playing' on the ground is not cool anymore so they lose it. Well, not in this household😉

What brought me to animal style movements was that I started training jiu jitsu and noticed that despite being in good shape from years of Muay Thai some of the even more basic solo mobility drills were difficult at first. That isn't even talking about actually rolling with a talented jiu-jitsu player. It was almost soul crushingly hard at first and I learned some super valuable lessons in humility during the first few weeks for sure. I've studied Muay Thai and Muay Chaiya for years and there are several exercises, especially Muay Chaiya, that are not directly applicable to a fighting situation but are extremely important to build the kind of strength required to actually be able to pull of the Muay Chaiya footwork patterns effectively and efficiently. Just as an example, there are several "leg hold" exercises where one very slowly breaks down a set of kicks like a combo of a front and then rear round kick to the midsection, turns 180 degrees to the rear while holding the knee up and holding the correct hand guard, then rotate the hips and come back into a "kick check" or blocking position with the leg that was held up. The process starts in say southpaw with the front round kick, then southpaw rear round kick and ends up in repeating that process in the traditional striking stance. It rotates between the two to develop both sides equally and does this with both forward and backward momentum or general movement. The idea is to "stay pointy" which is really hard to do at first but once a person can do that basically any strike an opponent throws will end up hurting them when they hit us. The concept in some martial arts has been described as "defanging the snake". How this relates to jiu-jitsu is that these animal movements, some of which are 100% practical and applicable and some not, build a similar type of strength that is useful in the sport, or actual self defense too obviously, but also useful in everyday life. Just think how demoralizing it would be for a tough guy to see someone do that gorilla run, then to something like say an imanari roll and tap them in seconds. This is similar to how a properly trained Muay Chaiya fighter appears when facing a more traditional Muay Thai fighter in the ring. The difference is in the attributes developed from the exercises and not so much the techniques themselves although they do play an important part in that domination. I'm just starting the process of adding daily animal movements workouts, about two months so far, and I've already seen huge improvements quickly. Subjectively I feel much more agile like a cat or something compared to before where I was very stiff, linear and almost robotic in my movements

Oddly enough i started looking into animal movement for jiu jitsu also. 😅 did the “pick weight, put weight down” life for over a decade and didnt wanna get back into it to supplement my training. I also wanted something different yet challenge and maybe fun, so, here i am. 🥋

What you say makes tons of sense, you train your body muscles at any angle there is rather that constraining them to a few. Thanks so much for your explanation.

Number 8. Chronic pain rehab. Started 2 weeks ago because i cant move, can't squat deep. Was shocked to find my shoulder impingement cured after 2 minutes of underswitches... a week later, my rotator cuff puckered up like a virgin asshole, drew my shoulder back into the socket... cured my labrum problem in a week. No more clicking, popping, or dislocation... no more collarbone popping on the bench... Its just gone. Even my slipped disk is better(traveling ape). It still slips out, but there's no pain. It's like the nerve has room to get out of the way or something. We're talking about a decade of pain reversed in a couple of weeks. I really think you guys are just scratching the surface of what's possible here.
