If all your doctor checks is a yearly fasting blood glucose level at your annual check-up, you could have severe pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes, and have no idea. Even though you wouldn't know you have it, the damage from your diabetes continues right along. Check your A1c at home if you need to!!
The A1C test gives you much more information and can uncover previously hidden blood sugar elevations that don't present themselves if you are fasting. You need this information so you can make more informed decisions about your own diet and your own life.
The A1C test gives you the information you need to know how your diet is affecting your health. Without this information, you are blind to a very important marker of overall health.

My doctor has been watching my blood sugar for years and I never thought about it. In July 2018 two days after my checkup I got the call you have Type 2 diabetes come back in so you can get started on insulin. I said NO to the insulin. That was the first time I said no to my doctor. lowered my A1c from 10.2 to 5.0 in 3 months with Keto, IF and walking.

I am 71. Was insulin resistant for years. Began keto. Strict keto of 20 carbs or less per day. My A1c was 6.3 a year ago on my annual checkup, at the beginning of keto,. One click away from full blown type two diabetes. Today I had my yearly checkup. A1c 5.6. Normal. My blood pressure was 190/62 at one point when checked at an urgent care facility. Today nurse clocked BP at 117/70.

I know it's still high, but I was so happy to see it lower since doing this way of eating and in only 3 months. It hasn't been below 9 for many, many years. I had my A1C checked the day after my first day of keto. I went to an independent lab here in town and it was $35 for the health panel with A1C test. It came back showing my A1C was 9.9! My doctors in the past had put me on metformin, but I was stubborn and wouldn't take it, so I was very unregulated! It had been higher, but I hated taking pills, so I'd always start eating better, but then would revert back to my old ways. So after 4 months of strict keto (tracking macros, being very diligent about what I ate, etc), I had my A1C checked again and it had dropped to 4.2! Yes, that's right! It's been almost 2 years now on keto and I get my bloodwork done every 4 months just so I can track my internal changes myself. I am happy to report it has stayed between 4.2-4.6 range over the past two years, and I have lost over 100 pounds too!

I was diagnosed 7 months ago with A1C of 6.7. My doctor did not support LCHF, in fact told me he would have to stop treating me. I was hit by a car cycling to work shortly after that, and managed to stick to LCHF-keto even 7 weeks in hospital and having to learn to walk again. My weight now... I am 60lbs lighter and my A1C as of yesterday is 5.0. I never went on meds. I am so glad that I found out about this way of life, it saved me. If I had listened to all the medical advice in the hospital, the diabetes educator, the GP, everyone I would not have reversed my T2, I would be on the elevator to more meds, not actually treating the disease and it becoming impossible to lose weight. I am now wearing lovely normal sized dresses, it is such a great feeling. I never cheat, never ever. Oh, and it makes your skin look amazing too! Very happy with this way of life.

Hi! I went from taking metformin and glipizide 2x per day as well as a 30-50 unit insulin shot and a A1C for years above 10, usually around 12-13. Made changes to my diet 3 months ago and just got my 1st A1C since then and its 6.7. Now I am taking ZERO diabetic meds. I've discussed my new diet and lowered blood sugar with my doctor, and he concurs for me to continue as we both expect my A1C to be even better in the next test! I've been type 2 diabetic for 23 yrs, I am reversing this now and feeling so much better! I've lost almost 40 lbs but I have a lot more to go! I was almost 500 lbs but lost 100 of it a few yrs ago. Been hovering around 380 since. Now I am at 340 and headed South! Information provided by this channel and a couple others helped Change my life, It's unbelievable how many years I followed the "recommended" diet that was, in fact, slowly killing me. I Hate all the LIES previous doctors have told me, keeping me sick. Now I have the 1st chance at having anything called a "life" in almost 30 years!

I was sick, sick and sick. VA FINALLY got a doctor for me to see after 4 years, rather than a nurse practitioner. Went into the emergency room and the doctor told me that my 23 pound weight loss (within 3 weeks), muscle collapse, vertigo and a myriad of other problems was because I needed to get out and walk around the block. As if I live in a neighborhood. Sent me back out to drive home in rush hour traffic. One week later, I go in for the regular appointment and start to say what's going on. Doctor (a different one) says stop, I know what's wrong with you. You're a raging diabetic and according to the blood tests have been for 4 years. That day my glucose (fasting) was 335 and A1c was 12.6. He put me on 3 medications, told me to check my glucose 2x a week because VA only allows 50 strips for 90 days. I've cooked for elderly diabetics before years ago. Got up to date on the current stuff. Went and bought another meter at lower costs and went back to cooking the way I did. A week and a half later, I'm off two meds. Near 3 months later, I've lost another 25 lbs on the diet I've been doing. My blood pressure is back to normal. Last doctor's visit he said it was amazing what are you doing. Told him and he said keep it up. Go in for my next A1c this month and that will tell. In the meantime, another 5 lbs and I'm going to have to start adding more calories. With the quarantine, I'm not that active and have stayed between 1,200 to 1,500 a day. Which is normal for a 5 foot inactive person. I'll never listen to the ADA again.

I’m also off my heart burn meds and my dr thinks that if I lose another 40ish pounds I may not need my thyroid meds anymore either. It only took me 4 months! I’ll never go back to the SAD! So I went home and looked at your videos and Dr. Fungus videos and I went low carb high fat that day. Cold turkey. Three months later I am now down to 5.4. I reversed my diabetes and lost 28 pounds! I was diagnosed type 2 in 2011. On low carb with exercise my A1c went from 6.7 to stay between 5.0 to 5.2. Lately I've been doing some Intermittent Fasting also, but mainly lowering the A1c is a result of lowering the glucose I eat (plus exercise to burn off extra). It is relatively easy to reverse type 2 diabetes (as far as knowing what to eat), it's just a pain with co-workers and others who always want to bring in donuts and sweets.

I got to 5.6 and the nurse was worried about that I was too low. They are more worried about getting sued than getting a diabetic to be as healthy as possible. They are concerned that I (Type 1.5 full onset destruction of pancreatic cells), was getting too low and that could cause problems. They wanted me to be HIGHER, of all things. Who is training these people? When you consider that they are taking from a pool of SUGAR addicts and using their average A1c, as a guide, then you know we are screwed by the medical industry.

Good question. I'll talk to my Dr regarding the A1C testing. Great advice! Any thoughts on the CRP test for inflammation? Is that hype for in general or worthwhile in general? Any other inflammation related diagnostics worth looking into more also concurrently or if certain conditions and/or CRP test results? I tend to turn my Dr's on to different modalities, the XLHED adds another dimension of complexity... though I have Dr's and Nurses in the family and my first Bachelors of Science is A.C.S. Biochemistry certified Chemistry with Undergraduate Research in Organic Synthesis and over 10 years Quality Systems related experience with some of that in Quality AR&D in raw materials, intermediate and finished product cGMP regulated industry alternate test methods systems implementations (hardware, software, documentation, training). Seems there are areas of opportunities to use more diagnostics testing in healthcare for better confidence and awareness of conditions as well as prevention of more serious conditions that can include the loss of life when a little more short term care for ultimately longer term care on the patient end was all that was required. Even if having to keep up a more thorough diagnostic and/or therapeutic routine. Thanks Dr. Berry.

I am 63 years old. On June 8, 2021, my A1C lab result was 8.7! I didn't even know what A1C was at the time but I was diagnosed as a Type 2 Diabetic - which shocked the hell out of me. In October I discovered your KZbin Channel and on the 25th of that month (October), I began a Keto way of nutrition. On November 3rd, I got very strict with it (20 carbs or less a day and less than 15 grams of sugar a day), and also began exercising quite a lot. On December 3, 2021, my A1C was down to 6.5. I tested again on December 21, 2021, and my A1C was all the way down to 5.5! My next appointment with my provider is in early January. I can't wait to see her reaction. She prescribed me Metformin, which I took for about three days and then threw it away after reading all the side-effects. She never once mentioned or suggested diet or exercise or any lifestyle changes. Another Standard of Care robot. In two months I have lost 25 pounds, from 210 down to 185. Thanks Dr. Berry for changing my life. My high blood pressure issue I've had for years is gone, my blood sugar has dropped and continues to drop, my inflammation has greatly subsided, my energy level is sky high, and I'm able to have a life again. My goal is an A1C around 5.0 or so and weight of about 162.

In a 6 month period on Keto (strict Keto, no cheats) my start A1c was 6.7 ending A1c was 5.2 and my triglycerides went from 188 to 121. I cut out all sugars the best I could. Twelve years ago when I didn’t care about my health, my A1c was 12.4 and my triglycerides were 413! And I really felt like crap! Today I feel like I am not even pre-diabetic. I still have to manage it. Also lost 44lbs during the 6 month time.

Hey, Dr. Berry....sharing my info with all of you...in March of 2021, I began the carnivore diet with intermittent fasting. It took a couple of months to get into the groove of what to do, when, and to break old habits. I got a notebook and have gone through ALL of Dr. Berry's videos and took notes. I had some blips but got back on the schedule and proceeded..I was diagnosed with T2D in 2003 and I took all the classes I could at the hospital and followed the ADA guidelines to the letter...and I got worse. I could never get my test scores to be in the normal range nor could I get my A1-C to lower...so in March of 2021 I decided to scrap everything I had been taught and everything I was doing...and go to a low carb/no carb diet and go carnivore. Today on November 9th, 2021 all my test scores are in the normal range and my A1-C is 4.9. I have also lost 50 pounds (which was not the reason I started the carnivore diet) but is a pleasant surprise. No more arthritis in my hands, no sugar cravings, no squeaky knee joints, and NO MORE ADA ADVICE. If I can do it...so can you! It is worth every minute you spend working on it...Keto or Carnivore...GO FOR IT! Stay the course, everyone...it will be an amazing experience...I never thought I could do this, but it is happening!
