Suicide is considered an unforgivable sin to some as you can't repent and ask for God's forgiveness as you are dead thus barring you from Heaven. Murder is considered forgivable as you can repent and ask for forgiveness from God after you commit the sin. List was under the assumption he could rejoin his family in Heaven after he repented for killing them.

this case is actually so sad. he was mentally messed up and killed his family because he thought it was for their own good. he thought it was the only option to stop his family from suffering. the fact that he didn’t kill himself because he wanted to be with them in heaven goes to show that he had good intentions, just not the mindset which lead him to be ill. it honestly shocks me.

I was just 3 years old when this happened, but I did see that episode of America's Most Wanted the night it aired. They came back after John List was arrested and let everyone know that their plan had worked. What a terribly sad and twisted mind and story. You did a great job covering this!
