I believe the mentally ill and homeless deserve help and support. By the same token, I am not going to trust random mentally ill homeless people with my safety or vulnerability, the young woman is naive trusting this guy with her name or any personal information. He saw her vulnerability as an opportunity, and targeted her. This is why personal boundaries are so important. Positive discrimination is not bad. Your assessment should not always be about being political correct, or giving people a chance. Trust your gut. If you think someone is a bit scary or suspicious they probably are, or at least pay attention to that feeling. Pay attention to your instinct and don't try explain it away. Be assertive,be calm, be confrontational if you need to. Get outta there, or take action against the person.

I used to be like this. It led me being stalked on two separate occasions. Once for two years when I was 16 and about for a year when I was in my 30s. I thought I learned my lesson with the first time, but I'm an idiot. The second time was much like this video. I was volunteering with an org that focuses on helping the homeless in the area. I've done it for years and didn't think too much when this 60 yr old asked to friend me on Facebook. He reminded me of my grandfather so I did... He started messaging me on how we were meant for one another. I ignored them and that escalated into if he can't have me knowing will. He found out my workplace and my neighborhood and would show up at those locations. My organization told me to contact the police because they couldn't do anything and the police told me they couldn't do anything until he did something. I blocked him. Stopped to volunteering. And I still get nervous going out if I might see him. I normally grocery shop further out of the neighborhood and stop going to the local parks. The pandemic has helped a bit too in that regard. I don't want to paint homeless people in a bad light. I was homeless at certain times in college, living in a car, library, or empty classrooms (And I acknowledge even then I had a lot of privileges). And my parents lost their home when I was a child and we had to live in a car for a bit then too. They are a lot of good people who are faced with unfortunate circumstances that lead to their homelessness. I do want to stress that womxn in particular should just be careful on who they friend on Facebook and what information they are putting out there. And I'm still working on it, but it's okay to be "rude" for your own safety.

This may sound mean but this is why you should always avoid homeless people and ignore them. Homeless people are more likely to have a disregard for basic ethics and they are more likely to exploit people's good nature. There were plenty of cases were homeless people would take advantage of children by exploiting their naive nature into giving them money. Homeless people are more likely to commit sexual violence and there were terrifying stories were some would break into women's homes. Just because someone has a hard life it doesn't mean make them better people.

@kasaharayumi20393 жыл бұрын
As much as we should be nice to everyone, we should also keep aware of our distance because some people may take it the wrong way. That is, we don’t intend to make it a closer connection than just acquaintances or peers. I had a similar experience before and it made me more aware than it did now than at the moment. I was helping my mom this one time work at her boss’s store ( my uh cousin’s aunt) because they were lacking a few employees so I volunteered for a few hours. Because I planned to hang out after the few hours, I was pretty excited so my mood was a bit happy. At this one point, a man ( also homeless) came in and ordered food. Because he was the only one there at the time, I started to talk to him and he would recommend me some books. Overall, a nice guy. Because I had to go, I just thanked him then left. However, afterwards, my sister ( who also helped out) and my mom said that ever since then, he would always come there and ask for me? I thought maybe he was just nice? But then apparently he started buying me stuff and my mom had to turn it down. Noticing how concerned my mom and sister were... I promised my self to not get too friendly with people at work. It was my last time volunteering there..

Something similar happen to me. Long story short. I was 20 and I went for a walk. It got late. This 50 year old man thought It was ok to hit on me and follow me (I was too nice to be mean, stupid huh) I was originally going home but not anymore with this man following me. I went into a liquor store he followed and ask if I wanted soda I said no. He went to the back of the store , I was in the front and that was my chance to escape and I did. I ran towards a neighborhood. It was dark so I hid pretty well in the shadows. I looked back at the liquor store to make sure he wasn’t there. He was. He was standing at the corner looking for me. I Hid behind a tree. He went down another street. I went home and made sure he wasn’t behind me. Never when out again for at least a month.The end.
