@@kittydaddy2023 It's darkly hilarious. First we bought games/went to see movies/watched shows blind and considered critics superfluous grifters. Then we started getting too many wake-up calls across the board and got used to checking what people say about the new releases before investing into them, and figured out it's pointless to listen to "official" critics but "amateur" ones are excellent word-of-mouth sources. And finally where we are now, we're getting more entertainment out of watching/listening to those amateur critics of media, and almost completely eschew the original media items themselves. We still get our fun... just not in the "intended" way.

The Light Whip is (IMO) the perfect example of how the showrunners don't understand what they are making a critique of: putting aside how it is mechanically different from the EU version, the very idea of a Light Whip is so much better suited to a Sith, as opposed to a Jedi. Why? It's a weapon that discards tradition (something Jedi are very big on), while at the same time being a weapon ideally suited to a loner and a force of destruction. It's inherently dangerous to everyone around the user, which suits the various philosophies of the Sith quite well, but... not exactly in keeping with the values of harmony that the Jedi espouse.
