the "you didn't experience a game show in there, did you?" line is a reference to gooseworx's previous work, where the idea of a character getting swallowed by another character and experiencing a game show happens two separate times in two unrelated cartoons: little runmo and elain gets adopted. edit to add info: some people have speculated that this means that kinger must be aware of the other gooseworx "universes" but i really don't think it goes that deep, it's just a reference that fans of her previous work would catch and nothing more

I actually disagree that Pomni taking the exit door meant she was being selfish and abandoning everyone. It's entirely possible that she had selfish intentions, and her reaction certainly suggests as much, but the same decision could have been made with altruistic intentions. If the exit door was real, she could have found the place where everyone else was trapped and do something to free them, or found someone who could get everyone else out through the door. Oh, and let's not forget, going through that exit door and being dumped in The Void was probably the fastest way to get Caine's attention! Even if she didn't know it would happen, there's no denying that going through the door got them help a lot sooner than they would have otherwise.

@@jamesverner9132 I already said that Pomni's reaction to Ragatha afterwards probably implied that she had selfish intentions when she went into the door. I'm just arguing with the assertion in the video that going into the door at all without letting anyone else know is inherently selfish.
@xavierdiaz1776 Жыл бұрын
Also I'm pretty sure anyone there would have done the same thing. Last time she saw the door she didn't get a chance to investigate it and might not get another chance, its fair to be a little selfish and not want to lose out on a chance to escape purgatory or whatevers going on. She barely knows them and didn't ask to be here.

My biggest problem with Ragatha shunning Pomni is like…why? I mean yeah as the audience we know that Pomni abandoned her. But Ragatha doesn’t know that, as far as she knows Pomni went to get Caine’s help and came back with Caine and he helped.

I will have to look back at the episode, but iirc Ragatha drags herself up to Caine, Caine fixes her, THEN Caine apologizes for the exit door. I think it's bc Ragatha knew that Pomni didn't even mention her because she had to drag herself to Caine. One thing off about Ragatha tho that Pomni notices is her comment: "I'm sorry your first day here was pretty bad." Meaning that the characters believe that they are in here for the long haul and try to make Pomni as "comfortable" as possible. You can see Pomni's reaction to that line was more horrified than empathetic. She refuses to see herself as one of them just yet as she is still fresh in the reality she entered. So when she saw the exit after everyone mentions that "we can't find an exit", you have to understand that you have to grab an opportunity for an escape because you don't know the next time it will appear. It's not a selfish choice but a choice of survival. It's like a lifeguard quote i love hearing about. A lifeguard uses the body of the person he is trying to save as a shield to protect themselves if they slam into the rock in the storm. Sure, the victim's body will be worse off but the lifeguard needs to do it bc if they use their own body to protect the victim, both will drown.

My current crackpot theory is that the designs of the circus members reflect what they were like before they joined the circus. Ragatha let people hurt her (emotionally and physically), Gangle would hide their real emotions with more positive ones, Kinger thought highly of himself, but in reality was very weak. And Zooble didn't have a strong sense of identity (which was confirmed by gooseworks!). I'm a little unsure about Jax and Pomni, but i'm sure if we get more episodes, i could come up with something!

Y'know, I wonder how much of Ragatha's good attitude is spawned from her intense denial. Because she *is* in denial. She's pretending like everything is okay, but something I noticed is that particular motion where she swings her arm in front of herself. She does it three times that I can recall: While comforting Pomni the first time about getting her head together, once after her breakdown in front of Kaufmo's room, and again while trying to center Pomni's head and convince her to get help. I think these are key moments for her, where she's stamping down her own trauma and anxiety for the benefit of others, and I predict we might see her break eventually and get really, really rude/mean. But I think that's part of what makes Ragatha so likeable: she's doing her best, not just for herself, but for those around her. She knows that trauma dumping and stress won't solve anything, but I think she still needs to find a healthy middle ground. Would that a damn *therapist* put on that VR set; these tiny toy traumatites need one. And on Jax, I'm convinced his attitude is just him lingering too long in the Anger stage of loss. He's riding Schadenfreude *hard* to keep himself sane, at the expense of everyone around him, taking joy in their suffering to lessen his own pain. And my theory for Caine and his "spoiled" comment is precisely what we see at the end of the episode; that beyond the Void is... the backside of a computer screen. A screen that leads out into the one place Caine can see - the same play he designed his "exit" to look like. A cheap, run down, empty office building. The spoiling is simple; they are trapped and escape is less than a hope. It's a pipe dream. It's possible that they're even caught in a recursive loop at this point; a simulation that exists within itself, like a snake eating it's own tail.

I personally DO count the moment where Jax knocked Kinger and Gangle into the hole as redeemable. No, he never stops being a jerk, but at the same time he does get them out of harm's way by getting them off the main floor and into the heart of Gloink Queen's nest, a creature far less likely to harm any of them than the Abstracted Coufmo. At the very least, he's taken on a role in the world of the Digital Circus, one that's harsh but sometimes necessary. Caine is a manic but clueless AI trying his best to keep things moving, Ragatha is a sweetheart softening the blows, and Jax is bringing the cold hard truth, and not for nothing, but he seems to be coping with life in the Circus a lot better than his peers.

Jax is also mostly acceptance, cause he's just gets all noncense happening as something normal. And Kinger seems to be bargaining. And with Pomni going throught Denial whole episode, turning into Anger at last scene, we have full set of stages. There certainly is some behind the scenes content that shows us some stuff that has been done to help speed up future production. Like animated walk, and run cycles for all the chars, in addition to facial animation presets. So probably sooner than we think, but not soon.

Gangle is my favorite character, just cause I feel so bad for my precious little theater friend. As you said, I really want a plush or something of Gangle, even if it would be impossible thanks to how her body is built.

10:53 you may have a point here, but something i havent seen anyone else mention here is how this is a reference to gooseworx’s previous works, specifically little runmo, since in that animation the titular character is eaten by a monster and experiences a gameshow inside its stomach. Idk, i just thought that was neat trivia i havent heard anyone else mention yet

Honestly, the main reason I checked out this show was because I heard that Caine is voiced by the Autarch of Flame himself. But either way, I loved the pilot and am eagerly waiting for the show proper to start. Also, don’t feel bad about not seeing Murder Drones yet. I haven’t either. Also also, 16:05, did you steal that joke from Silver Keyblade?!

By the way, CAINE is also a Linux software from 2009. Since everything is happening digitally, there could very likely be a connection. At the quarters, you can also see a mouse on a door (and another character on another door, but I can't clearly see who an X was painted over. I think this suggests that at some point there were at least two characters who were already abstracted. When Kaufmo was sent to the basement you saw two more abstract designs there, I think these were in the doors that had a red X on them. You can also see many wooden mannequins (in the restaurant at Caine's, on the doors of the quarters); Here I think that these are the Npcs that Jax was talking about at the beginning (1:09 in the original video). I'm also convinced that Caine isn't evil, my theory is that he just can't help the characters out of the world for some reason, but does his best to make their stay there as pleasant as possible. He organizes games to pass the time, but does not force anyone to participate (Original 6:35). He also gives the characters food, rooms and works on an "exit", although somehow that wasn't entirely true since this exit didn't really lead to the outside world. Pomni (помни) is also the Russian word for "remember", which also plays into Pomni's loss of memory upon entering the world. I also think that Pomni's memory loss is progressing, which may be why she hesitated to open the exit door when Kaufmo chased her; because she had no memory of that door anymore. You can see from Kinger, who is said to have been there for a very long time, that over time you lose your mind there, but in my opinion you rather tend to lose your memory. Kinger sometimes just screams after looking at Gangle for a few seconds; I don't think Kinger is just crazy, as is supposedly portrayed in the episode; it looks more like he has some very advanced stage of dementia. Just as Pomni loses her memory, this probably happens to more or less everyone over time.

7:02 I think the interesting thing about this moment is that Ragatha probably doens't know 100% that Pomni essentially left her to suffer Neither Pomni nor Caine say it outright, but Caine talking about the exit doors (I'm pretty sure *after* Ragatha walks next to Pomni) at least implies it. So she has an idea, but it's not like. . . out in the open just yet.

10:52 I believe the whole "gameshow" line is a reference to runmo, a popular animation made by gooseworks where a character literally experiences a gameshow in a monsters stomach

European is not a language, your thinking of Russian. By say it’s a European word you are suggesting the many languages in Europe all have the word pomni in which in all said languages means Remember.

10:53 He was referencing a video that Goosework made called "Little Runmo"! So basically, Runmo got eaten and then there was a "Wheel of Fortune" kinda game in their stomach, and there were different prizes on the wheel and one school, and if it lands on the school, the stomacha acid would rise up, it happed twice in a row but then Runmo got out! I think that's what happend, I last watched it A WHILLLLLEEEEE ago!!!

Great review. Btw, when kinger asks zooble if she experienced a gameshow, its most likely a little runmo reference. Little runmo is something gooseworks made a while back.

15:37 "Is this whole show a commentary on the dangers of escapism, and how leaving our world to go into another will lead to more problems and mental trauma in the long run?" This is just personal speculation, but I don't think so. In fact, I think it's literally quite the opposite. About how we *need* escapism to stay happy, healthy, and sane. If you spend all your time, energy, and life focusing and obsessing about one thing, you're bound to break. That's what happened to Kaufmo. He focused so much on the thought of an exit, not leaving his room for long enough to write all he has on his walls. Long enough to completely abstract. Would he have abstracted if he had just taken a brief break from his mission to figure out the exit, to just enjoy one of Caine's little adventures? Replace Finding an exit with... any relatively important thing that someone may obsess and focus on too hard for their own good... A project of some sort, for example, or focusing on doing all they can to impress their boss to hopefully get a promotion. Sometimes, it's best to just step back, take a break... Maybe escape into a fun little adventure, or just take a nap. You can continue working on it when you've had a moment to clear your mind, and enjoy yourself a little. It's all well and good to keep trying to find an exit. To not just give up, and accept there's no escape, that you can't win... But if you spend every waking moment purely focused on that task of finding the exit, you're going to end up completely breaking down. At least, that's how I interpret things. Ragatha literally told us that Caine's adventures were something to keep their minds healthy and stimulated. And that's essentially what those adventures are. Distractions. A bit of escapism. Pretending you're in a world where Gloinks are a real problem you need to solve for a little bit, rather than just having nothing to distract you from the reality that you may never escape the circus. So, I do not think one of the core messages of the show is that escapism is bad. Not when escapism is literally one of the main tools Caine uses to keep the characters sane. Though, of course, all things in moderation. There's definitely the obvious 'completely falling to escapism and never facing your reality can also be bad' moral in there too. After all, if you do nothing but enjoy Caine's adventures, if you do nothing but enjoy the escapism, then you're just never going to be looking around for that exit. And as hopeless as things seem, we all know they're definitely never going to escape if they completely give up on trying. After all, the attitude that put man on the moon wasn't just 'it's probably just impossible... let's just go home, and play some board games or whatever to distract ourselves from the fact that we are trapped here on this planet Earth with probably no possible escape ever.'

The gameshow kinger was talking about was actually a reference to one of gooseworx's animations, called little runmo! There's a scene at about 9 minutes in in that animation, where the runmo gets eaten by a royal monster, and there's a gameshow inside.

At one point, we see a logo with the initials C&A written on them. This could be a refference to the Biblical story of Cain and Abel. I think the big reveal is going to be there was originally a second AI called Abel, that acted as an antivirus of sorts. Somehow they got deleted (perhapse at the hands of Caine, like in the Bible) and Caine is steadily falling apart, with no idea how to operate things by himself. (Side theory: I think Jax may have been a prisoner in the real world, wich could explain why he's so anatgonistic to everyone else. This would also explain why he's so accepting of their predicament, as he has so much freedom in the Digital Circus).

10:55 This part may actually be a reference to another horror style video Gooseworx made called runmo. 📢 SPOILERS AHEAD FOR RUNMO 📢 Close to the end, Runmo gets eaten by the king-like entity getting swallowed into his stomach game-show, where you hit a block and a wheel spins, nit landed (al beit a bit rigged) on stomach acid twice before landing on death, runmo thought this was HIS death, when in reality, it was the kings.

Finally! A great analysis. I'm glad bro acknowledged two things. 1. Gangle is the absolute best! 2. That Jax is a play on the word Jacks (Plural Jack) which means Jackrabbit, and Jackass.

Dude you're overthinking it. Nothing about Caines body language had him pinnable as lying about the door. He wouldn't bother trying to keep them all mentally stable with Adventures if he didn't actually care. He's just following and evolving his coding. He has to run the show, no one can swear, that's kinda it for what he was more than likely originally programed with. Everything else is his own evolution alongside the guests.

Well about Kinger, I noticed that he keeps mentioning an "Insect collection" and then later Jax mentions that he may or may not have left a centapede in Ragatha's room.... (I wonder if Kinger has a bug collection that was stolen by Jax, and then stashed in the rooms of other housemates...)

One indie show you should look at is an oldie, but a one hell of a goodie, Madness Combat. the series is basically just one big bloody and gorey John Wick fight scene that has been stretched out to the point of losing it's own mind, with zombies, glitched out abominations, demons, there's even several points where the protagonist fights actual literal Jesus! It's one hell of a ride and I think you should give it a watch and maybe even cover it some time.
