He still works out in his 70's. He played the part of Apollo Creed to perfection. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing the part. And the same goes for sly as rocky, Mr t as clubber lang, and dolph as Ivan drago.

Apollo pretty much taught me to fight. I didn't lose a fight after watching Rocky 3 and learning the quick jab. I would hit kids so fast their nose would explode. It didn't matter if they jumped on me after that. Once the teachers broke up the fight, I might have a bruise or two but they were gushing blood all over the place. Instant win on the playground.

I think Carl was a so so actor, but as a athlete, under appreciated. This is all about Vince. This is the first time I have ever heard of him, I'm buying his books right now. Super excited, I've been through some very serious transformation, 255 lbs to 160 lbs (took years), decades of drug and alcohol abuse (clean and sober today). This is another chapter in my life. THANK YOU for showcasing this extraordinary athlete/ actor. When I first saw Carl Weathers in Rocky 1 I was blown away by not just his elite level physique but his athletic grace and movement while moving around the ring. Weathers may have claimed he didn't box but I can tell you when he was throwing a jab and hooking behind that jab, he KNEW EXACTLY what he was doing. Carl was a former NFL player. I don't remember the team he played for at this time but clearly he has some athletic background. As ripped as Stallone may have been and I admired his physique as well, it was Weathers physique that really impressed me especially in Rocky 2 and 3. He looked literally like the Greek sculpted Apollo figure he was named after! Again thank you Mate for this presentation 👍💪

I have been doing this type of All body workout for decades, I try to take very little rest between sets and I'm done in no more that 40 minutes, which includes 10 min. bike or rowing. The fact that I'm in my 50's and I am as lean as I was in my twenties but with more muscle is a testament to how well and easy these type of programs are....the trick is consistency. I workout 4 on 1 off, 3 on 1 off, 5 on 2 off. Cheers

Great Commentary on Carl Weathers and Vince Gironde. Vince always believed in Symmetry and Proportion. He was totally against building mass for mass sake. Carl Weathers presented a Physique that embodied the ideals of Symmetry and Balance a principle Vince Gironda strongly emphasized in his training methods. Vince Gironda’s Book “The Wild Physique” is a Classic. If anyone can get their hands on a copy you’ll have the Blue Print on building a classical physique that will impress anyone.

I would see Carl, often, in the mornings when I worked out at Vince's...He did, indeed, move quickly from on exercise to another...and didn't talk much...other than with Vince, from across the gym...and briefly with a few others. I approached him one morning after seeing a mention of him in the Hollywood gossip column in the newspaper...where the writer of the column referred to Carl as reminding him a lot of an 'A new Clark Gable.' Carl hadn't heard about that, since it was just posted in the paper.. 'Oh yeah...I haven't seen that.' he said. But I could tell he didn't mind the comparison to Gable. I could see Carl wasn't going to stop his dumbbell curls to talk...so I moved back to my workout after the brief conversation. He and Vince got along splendidly.

@@GoldenEraBookworm Wow... Yes, and it sounds different from full body training; it sounds like each body part gets plenty of rest within the circuit from the single sets - before you come back to them again in the next circuit, where you can hit them effectively again with maximum energy and strength. I might even have to try this myself at some point - it sounds like a very novel approach! A kind of circuit training routine for bodybuilding... Who would've thought? I don't think I'd be able to tolerate it 6× a week though (probably just 3× a week); Weathers must've had excellent conditioning.

I pulled a muscle in my back while front squatting so I decided to take a break from heavy compound and I am doing this workout! Loosely following the diet (plenty of eggs, supplement magnesium, vit d and C, meat and small amount of veggies) and doing the workout daily. While the starting weights are definitely light, it is interesting how squeezing the top makes the subsequent reps astonishingly harder. Will report on results. Pump is incredible!

One of my all time favorite actors! He brought Apolo Creed to life and if any actor ever had a perfect physique, it was Mr. Carl Weathers ! RIP sir, you will be missed. * BTW- He lived next door to my father's house during the early 90s. I only saw him twice ( I lived in a different city ) but he was very polite, a gentleman, just as you would expect.

Those first Four Rocky Movies, had the best Actors to do the job! Each one plays their role perfectly, from Stallone's original script. Rocky IV, and Rocky Balboa are a fitting end to the Rocky legacy.

As Carl stated in an article in 1977: “It’s a great system for building hard muscle”. I pick out six to seven exercises that will work the whole body. I perform sets but not in the usual way. That is, I start with maybe a chest movement, go on to a leg movement, then something for the shoulders until I have done one set of every movement in my program, without pausing, as is the case in the usual fashion. When I have done the six or seven exercises, I take a short rest and repeat the cycle. I do this six times, sometimes more. The idea here is to work as fast as possible. I get a great muscle pump and it’s good for my cardiovascular too. I like to grind out the reps”.

Carl could do this, 6 days a week, 36 sets a day, and not gain 50 lbs of muscle because he was on a vegetarian diet. He wasn't taking in 150-200g of protein every day. So he just leaned out. If he ate like a bodybuilder, he'd be 270 lbs. He'd be Arnold. That's what he's talking about. He used this workout/diet every day to stay lean, not for muscle mass.

@@GoldenEraBookworm I can't seem to find any information about Pierre Van Den Steen (Vandensteen?) I'm sure you have seen the photos of him, especially in the 1975 Muscle Builder magazine. He has abs and conditioning in that photo that I think is as good as any. I've read that he did huge amounts of volume. But, would love to no details about his training, PLUS his diet. His body fat percentage for that era is astounding? I will try to find info (there may be some in French or Dutch), but if you could do a video on him, you would probably have the only info in English about him. Thanks.

This is an interesting story you tell about how Carl Weather got the role as Apollo Creed. I didn't know Carl was trained by Vince Gironda. That is a lot of training he did for the movie. That is a lot of circuits per day, and it is interesting to learn that Carl is a vegetarian. With a physique like he has, I thought he ate a lot of meat. An entertaining video.
