I think Joe Buck handled this all pretty well. While he did seem caught off guard that night, he never criticized Artie too heavily. He said he felt he went over board, which he clearly did, but never blamed the failure of the show on him. I think he genuinely understood that he wasn't cut out to be a talk show host and never held a grudge against Artie.

He could have held a grudge against Artie for behaving that way but, as you said, he wasn't responsible for the show's being cancelled.

@Cheeko1111 Nah, he handled it like the fraud he is. He went in and told Artie to let him have it. According to Buck, he is a huge Stern fan so he clearly knew what he was asking for at that time. It was on HBO, they knew they could push the envelope. Buck then sits there and talks about his favorite childhood sports teams with Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis, literally the most boring TV imaginable, just setting Artie up to unload, which is what he did. Then acted bewildered and shocked the entire time. Buck knew exactly what was going to happen then acted surprised by it which clearly was fake as hell. Now he acts like it's no big deal after Artie was trashed for doing exactly what he wanted because that was the plan all along: get headlines for explicit garbage on dirty HBO sports show without ruining Joe's image. Terrible broadcaster that either set Artie up or put together the absolute worst show in history, then used Artie as the fall guy. There wasn't a thing about it that he "handled pretty well".

You can tell he was trying to joke back, but I think he didn't laugh enough at Artie's digs, and that's the thing about being a good object of roasting, is you have to give it up if the joke was good, even if it means giving a fake laugh, just to let the audience which are fans of Joe Buck know that this is all OK.

Joe Buck is a classic straight man. He should have embraced that character with greater confidnence and never attempted to stoop to Arties level. If he had done that on his talk show it could have worked. The first rule of acting is to never betray your character.

Ultimately, I think Buck is a pretty chill guy. He likes to bullshit around. He doesn't take himself too seriously nor is very easily-offended. He's a good sport when his ass gets ripped apart (clearly), and doesn't mind dishing an off-handed dis, like with Favre and being dull. I think he's a little stultified doing the watered-down, gen public-friendly, super clean national broadcasts, and would do better in low key environments, like talk shows. I could see him become regular guests on a few shows, maybe not hosting his own though.

I actually thought this was a nice interview even if a little cheesy. Buck is definitely more human and accepting of humor than I thought he was before this video, so it helped him in my eyes and probably a good chunk of Stern and Artie fan's eyes as well. Also about Artie apologizing, keep in mind a guys perspective probably changes and a lot of guilt sets in after you quit a heroin binge, even if it was your ninth one.

Gotta give it to joe for being such a nice guy about the whole situation. He was very fair with Artie. Artie was hilarious on that episode but it was also very overboard and kinda uncomfortable to watch. That being said, joe told him to let him have it and that’s what Artie did. Joe owns up to that fact it wasn’t a good show to begin with, and Artie created something huge in the media for that show. Maybe it wasn’t good for his kids to hear and it wasn’t what he was going for, but he’s man enough to not throw Artie under the bus

The fact Joe Buck is this amicable about the whole fiasco shows he is a very, very rare person. Artie totally sabotaged the show to the point it was insulting. Him saying he was just trying to be funny is a total BS excuse for acting like a total douchebag. I like Artie, but he really crossed the line there.

I have a like/hate relationship with Joe Buck. He's got a perfect voice for baseball but I always thought he sucked at commentating football games. Then one day he clowned Johnny Manziel live on the air during a Browns game, I couldn't stop laughing and saw some potential. But nay, he still sucks at football. So many great plays neutered by his monotone voice.
@chrisolivo6591
@chrisolivo6591 5 жыл бұрын
Batman8657 I actually feel the opposite. I think Buck and Aikman are great, but he seems like he doesn’t care when he does a baseball game. I feel he wants to be remembered for being a Football announcer because he is Jack Buck’s son when he calls a baseball game.

@@chrisolivo6591 I agree. I think Joe Buck does a great job broadcasting whatever sport he does, and I think his voice is fine. Its ironic the original commenter said Joe Buck is monotone, because my only gripe with the guy is his seeming excitement whenever anything bad happens for my Cowboys while hes calling their games.

People shit on Joe Buck all the time and I’ve never understood it. Sure, he got his job because of his dad. But, he’s never KEPT his job because of his dad. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gotten almost every job in sports broadcasting since. He’s a lot like Dale Earnhardt, Jr. They are always unfairly compared to their fathers, and, thus, unfairly rated in their profession because of it.
