@@RRRR-jr1gp Except canon says that when they say "1 million units" in the movies they literally mean 1 million men. It would be more logical if it was 1 unit = 1 million, THAT would be a more realistic army scale, especially if it's 3 million planets, but it would still be a bit on the small side.

Well, technically it's all part of Palpatine's plan. He wants to show that the Jedi are incompetent leaders and that in some battles the Jedi could die as well. So yeah, Palpatine, since honestly without him, I personally think that the Jedi won't be placed to lead entire armies to battle. They'll probably serve as Special Forces/Reconnaissance fighting together with the Clone Commandos or something.

If the droids had been armed with slugthrowers, flachette launchers, and geonisian sonic weapons, no Jedi would've escaped that arena. The Jedi Order had become a shadow of its former self and 99%of them were painfully mediocre. The rest could be overwhelmed through sheer force of numbers. The subterfuge was unnecessary.

@mikevasquez1103

@@evann5451 that's what a millennium of peace will do to an Order. Old Republic Jedi were powerful cunning warriors because they were repeatedly drawn into brutal wars with Dark Jedi, Sith, and Mandalorians. Fear made them weak. They relentlessly pursued order because they feared chaos. They clung to the light because they feared the dark. They sought to eliminate all dark side relics because they feared the Sith so much that they even initially refused to believe they had returned. It's ironic that they would say that fear is the path to the dark side considering the fact that their lives were basically dominated at all times by fear in one form or another. In so many words, I agree. It was sad.

I think it was probably a good idea of the separatists to counter charge the republic. Think about it they had more numbers and were a mostly for offensive fighting builded force. Furthermore they needed to get space between there ship launching points and deployment areas to get there force fully operational. So if you need space for your troops have superior numbers a home field advantage and almost every section of your army build for massive offensive waves that need to close in for a fighting advantage, why not just charge an enemy who has superior long range firepower?
@tba113
@tba113 5 жыл бұрын
Excellent breakdown. More and more, I think the Separatists lost on Geonosis because their leadership was garbage at running a battle. The CIS senior leadership, on the other hand, were almost all corporate types. Bankers, engineers, merchants, lawyers, and such. Experts in their fields, no doubt, and I'm not belittling those professions - they are absolutely critical to running a company effectively - but their skill set is decidedly non-military. Even the long-range strategic planning types, the economists, financiers, and shipping experts, aren't suited to planning and running a battle if they haven't made a point to study military matters. As other Generation Tech videos have observed, the droids they sent in were similarly unsuited to pitched engagements. The B-1 was designed as a sort of entry-level armed security, and the B-2, while better armed, armored, and smarter, still depended mostly on weight of numbers to carry the day. It bears mentioning that the Jedi were mostly inept at running a battle, too - their grand plan seems to amount to "run at the enemy" - but those that deployed to Geonosis at least were warriors, and the clone officers were at least well-trained and disciplined.

I think you alluded to this in the video, all the same, I think the problem the Jedi had commanding the clone units should have been forseen, given that Jedi are trained for self-reliance and individual combat/defense - they would have been wholly unprepared/untrained for large unit tactical command positions - even with the assistance of the subordinate clone commanders providing advising roles. This might explain the reliance on crazy frontal assaults and other high casualty inducing combat maneuvers - a product of their inability to fully grasp the wider (negative) consequences of attempting to use large combat units in the same fashion that one would attack solo. The Jedi frequently had enough power to protect themselves in combat and therefore could pull off risky personal maneuvers such as direct charging attacks at enemies - however, attempting to replicate said tactics with huge numbers of less-capable basic infantry troops just lead to massive clone solider casualty numbers. The Jedi's tactics demonstrated a marked lack of flexibility on the part of the Jedi commanders who you would think would have much better battlefield situational awareness as a byproduct of their mental force abilities. (great video and great Clone Wars series - keep up the good work)

The GAR really should've deployed in multiple task forces and with those task forces established a large pseudo defensive perimeter within arty range of as many CIS capital ships as possible. Using their infantry to screen for the arty's while utilizing the larties for close air support and rapid counter offensive deployment. This would've allowed their commandos to have been properly deployed for more suitable operations such as sabotage, smash and grabs, reconnaissance, etc. With fewer CIS capital ships breaking atmosphere perhaps clusters of acclimators could've temporarily blocked exit vectors and potentially destroyed additional ships with their own fighters. Hindsight is 20/20 though, damn jetiise.

@@NightRaven-lh1bf You nailed it with the increased in atmosphere power requirements, it's been demonstrated before that constant engine power is vital to sustain flight, so much so that redundancies and increased power is necessitated therefore drawing power from other systems. I understand they felt obligated to rapidly deploy their invasion force in order to capitalize on the element of surprise, utilizing a consolidated staging area to overwhelm CIS forces and retrieve their high value targets while hopefully smashing foundries in between. It's not terrible in theory but they drastically underestimated the time it took CIS command to mobilize their defensive forces, leading to a devastating pyrrhic victory. To your point, I absolutely agree that your modified deployment and staging area is superior. It's strategically sound but you put all your eggs in one basket once again by consolidating your attack force on the chance that you can retrieve your HVT's and inflict adequate damage to the enemy. It's definitely the safest plan but the result I anticipate is minimal losses on both sides, minimal to moderate damage to enemy material, and little to no captured HVT's. Regarding my hypothetical plan of action, I still believe losses would be below that of the actual GAR's deployment but, yes, there would be casualties due to multiple deployment areas. With appropriate transport escorts (more on that later) this could be mitigated. Once artillery fires is established though, you have a real chance of hindering the CIS war campaign via asset denial. On your point regarding larty (or any troop transport) deployment, yes! Lol watching the second invasion of genosis was taxing because they left their transports mostly defenseless as if they had learned nothing from the multiple offensive campaigns they had already engaged in. So yes, deploy your transports with a large fighter escort, preferably after lightning bombing raids and/or orbital bombardments have occurred.

@@NightRaven-lh1bf NightRaven 1901 isn't this what the comment section was designed for? Just a couple tactical thinkers mulling over an after action review. I almost completely agree with your first paragraph (lol at the loss of limbs) but I have 2 points that should be addressed: 1. Mountainous infiltration and 2. Anticipating CIS withdrawal. So having some rotary wing experience I know that mountain infils can be tricky beasts, requiring meticulous attention to the topography so that insertion can be safe and expedient. So now we're talking multiple flights of 5 to 10 LAAT's flying various routes (so as not to become predictable targets) with small dispersed windows of time between them and dropping troops. For such a large deployment of troops and armor in a mostly Mountainous area, it's going to be very difficult to navigate time and terrain to ensure your force is ready to hit the objective. But let's say the planners do their job and the pilots execute the routes proficiently and you have your mountain (also assuming the AT-TE's can navigate from the point of infil to the objective). Now we have to assume the CIS will defend and counter, we just can't be sure their command will react the same upon seeing our choice of deployment and choice of attack. Do they all withdraw or do the geonosians start licking their chops and the CIS allow Sun Fac the luxury of keeping a capital ship or 2 in order to completely destroy GAR forces? I'm thinking Vietnam now, with the bugs utilizing the mountain and their catacombs to inflict guerrilla warfare while the droids conduct suicide bunker Hill type marches. Just a couple things to consider. Now to your second question about actually planning lol. Idk for sure but my educated guess is yes and no. Here's how I think it went down and correct me if you think or know I'm wrong. With the ship captains and fleet admiral likely just being clones at this point, they deferred to Yoda with little to nothing to add. They must've had the tech to scan the topography and with Yoda electing to quickly deploy all forces in favor of ending the war before it began, chose the open crags. I think the inexperience and submissiveness of the clones in conjunction with the brash inexperience of the jedi led to the failed blitzkrieg. Had any of the later volunteer admirals been in command I think this entire blunder of an operation would've been avoided.

@Generation Tech you are being too hard on the jedi; the battle was ALREADY under way as the jedi generals landed an began taking command. in battle being timid an none commitment can be more dangerous an devastating than just charging on wards.

Draconis The Wyvern, true. But I think devising a proper strategy with the resources that you have, perhaps create a diversion while the Jedi infiltrated, would have yielded better results with far less casualties.

The GAR should have just build up defenses against the separatists. Dig improvised trenches for the clones, let them use shields against light laser fire (like the shields that were seen in the clone wars series) or use ray shields like the Gungans. The main purpose of the GAR was not to destroy every droid on the planet immediatly, but to keep the seperatissts from escape. So let your ground troops stay in cover and take out the attacking droids from a covered position, while all artillery is attacking the Ships. Also the air superiority should have been their main goal against the droids. We see several Acclamators in orbit, just let them rise from the ground again and fire on the surface to break up seperatist lines. The Jedi on the other hand were nearly useless in a ground attack tat was charged head on. They are highly specialized units that are perfect for taking out high value targets and should not be wasted to fight B1s. The clone officers were much better suited for such classic warfare tactics. They should have stayed near the droid factories and lead task forces of specialized clones in every entrance of the factories to capture or kill the seperatist leaders, providing very effective aid for the clones in the narrow tunnels of Geonosis (that could almost be totlly covered with one swing of the lightsaber). We saw how effective Clone commandos could be on their own, like delta squad. Immagine how effective they could have been in their pursuit for high value targets, if every squad was supported by a Jedi.

Actually Allen's bein kinda cynical on point 2. Even CIS leadership said the Clone assault force WASNT small nor weak. So while the frontal charge USUALLY is a dumb suicidal tactic that usually is the LAST thing you want to do apparently in this instance it wasnt the wrong one since the Air an Artillery support Allen mentioned WAS there in force and the Republic for all their losses CURB STOMPED the Droids just as bad. An we also know, from anyone who's read the novels, comics and/or played some the video games numerous elite Clone commandos were also at work and present behind the scenes also helping slap down the Droid efforts to win the battle. An many more Jedi reinforcements alot of whom had combat abilities of some kind also came in to assist. Plenty of whom probably could do alot of damage alone when used right. Only thing really that let the enemy leadership escape luckily for CIS is that no major fleet units yet were present to engage and destroy the fleeing Separatists. If they'd had just that waiting for the CIS to try just such a thing like in some future battles they could a ended the war right then an there before it went much further

In World War 2 the US mobilized 16 million troops and in total lost 400,000 or about 2.5% of their forces. The GAR had about 200,000 clones at the start of the war and lost 40,000 (injured however death rates would likely be of a similar number) or about 20% of their forces. I know that the Republic would soon increase there forces to 1.5 million and a year after the battle, would have a total troop count of 3 million. But considering what they had at the start of the war those are unacceptably massive loses, especially due to how avoidable these loses could have if they had some more competent leadership (with no disrespect to the Jedi, after all for many of them this was their first experience in combat of this scale. Just an honest criticism). Those are loses comparable to Soviets in World War 2 (if you're curious they mobilized roughly 34 million with a military death count of 7 million or consistently 20% of their forces) which is to say, a Blood Bath!

The tactics in literally every battle in the sw storyline make me want to pull my hair out. Even I could have kept thousands of clones from dying, and I work kn an office. Even in the original trilogy, the Empire uses tactics so dumb I could not have even thought about them. Like seriously, who leads a damn assault against thousands of enemies across a DESERT???? Who concentrares most of their budget on one trash superweapon which was destroyed by about 15 fighters?

But if Luke is 19 in ANH so obviously still 19 at the battle of Yavin how can it be 22 B.B.Y? The Clone Wars lasted 4 years. 22 - 4 = 18 so by rights surely it should be 23 B.B.Y that the first battle of the war takes place? Therefore the war would end as Luke is born and he would be 19 by the time we see him and the events of ANH.
