There’s a lot written about Lennon & McCartney’s harmonies but I think George’s with Paul blends so perfectly. When Eric Clapton is your lead guitarist and Paul McCartney is your backing singer AND the song is THIS good the magic will follow. Also Ringo is great on this.

you are right Rick, I saw a documentary not too long ago, and they mentioned about this song. George was struggling with the guitar solo or something like he couldn't hit some notes smoothly. And Eric Clapton happens to be hanging out with them at the studio at the time. So they asked Eric Clapton to mess around with it, and he got it done first try.

John said that him and Paul knew George was going to be a great songwriter. He had just started writing songs later than when John and Paul started. John saw that George was growing through the same hurdles that he and Paul did. Which is why he knew that George was going to catch up eventually.

Now you should listen to the version of this song recorded at The Concert For George, a tribute concert held on the one-year anniversary of the day George died. In the original recording you reacted to here, Eric Clapton was playing lead guitar. George was humble & confident enough to know who could best make the guitar cry & he let EC shine. In the tribute concert, EC is again playing lead, & he outdoes himself!! My all-time favorite version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is from The Concert For George. Paul & Ringo are also part of the band, as is George's easy-to-spot son. You'll love it!! While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Taken from Concert For George) - KZbin

The Beatles, for me, never disappointed. After George grew into a great composer in his own right and by the end of the Beatles he was Lennon/McCartney equal, composition wise. The Beatles as composers cannot be beat and in MY opinion there is only one partnership that is equal to them and that is Benny and Bjorn of ABBA, great admirers of L&M who influenced them so much that they followed them by trying to never remake a song. In other words, there was no She Loves You 2.0. They evolved. The Beatles inspired just about everyone.

*Harry and Lou (George's parents), were longtime family friends. Harry worked with my dad as a conductor on the buses, and my sister and me both went to Dovedale with George, his sister and both his brothers. I kept in touch with George and his brother (who was also called Harry after their dad), right up until a few weeks before George died at one of Paul's homes in America. It's weird reading about him now as a Beatle. I don't know why, it just is?*

Dhani also plays guitar in this concert and looks just like his Dad. YOU SAID YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG AGAIN...CHECK OUT THE VERSION ON THE CONCERT FOR GEORGE. You won't be disappointed. I think you must have listened to the version that was done for Cirque de Soliel's Las Vegas show "LOVE" using all the Beatles' music. George did an acoustic version originally before the one you are hearing now. The "LOVE" show had Giles Martin (George Martin's son, George was their producer during their entire career) rework, add, edit together several songs, for the LOVE show. On that the violins were added to Georges acoustic version. I guess I am the only one that really LOVES the acoustic AND the acoustic LOVE show version with the violins, almost MORE than how it was released on the WHITE album. Those 2 acoustic versions made ME weep cos they are SO BEAUTIFUL, PLUS in THIS version, they left out one of George's original lines from the acoustic which I think was the most beautiful line in the song....."I LOOK FROM THE WINGS AT THE PLAY YOU ARE STAGING, while my guitar gently weeps, AS I'M SITTING HERE DOING NOTHING BUT AGING....while my guitar gently weeps." It was the last line in the acoustic version. I WISH they had KEPT that line in the "electric" version you reacted to here. In the end it's NICE to have 3 versions of it, BOTH are great, but very different.

the original acoustic version is on at least one of the ' collection' sets and is, as one might expect, pristine. has an additional verse. and not the Vegas show tune, which George was actually a supporter of.

George wrote this and got his friend Eric Clapton to play lead guitar. Eric is the only person to play on a Beatles album and on the four Beatles solo albums.

Man , Georges vocals on this are as good as any vocals on any Beatles song. Eric Clapton was on lead on this song but if you want to hear George's guitar at its best then Listen to Alvin Lee's The Bluest Blues on which George Played Slide, he makes his guitar cry. Oh and Alvin's outro solo ain't half bad either.

This is George with Clapton on lead, the rest of the Beatles didn't want to do the song till Clapton came in and did the lead and it would have been a big mistake on their part as this is one of the best George and them had done, George turned out to be a great writer and artist and ended up writing one of the biggest songs ever recorded by other artists, "Something".

They took an acoustic version fom 1968 and added strings to it in 2006. I never felt that the guitar and strings blended that well.

I really think you’d enjoy watching McCartney 321 on Hulu. He (with Rick Rubin) breaks down several of his songs (Beatles, Wings and solo.) Including this song (his bass specifically.) It’s fantastic.
