there are many guitar models from schecter that have this pickups configuration so you have a wide range of guitars to choose from! I have an Apocalypse C7 and love the option to go from djent to coil split. Also, it has a similar satin finish and it feels great!
@XRaym2 жыл бұрын
The neutral fret placement is the genius of this guitar IMHO.
@dreammachine86 Жыл бұрын
Dean had an interesting range of multiscale guitars, the neutral fret was at the nut so all of the fans angled in the same direction; to the right if you're looking down at the guitar. Personally I reckon that would be quite comfortable for me - I got my first (and only) multiscale a while back, a Cort KX507, and that has the neutral fret on the 8th. It feels very comfortable to play on all the higher frets but when the fan angle is to the left on the lower frets, it's a bit awkward, especially with barre chords which I'm not great at anyway. I've not seen any other brands do anything like Dean. It's a shame they discontinued that range...it appears they had 6, 7 and 8 string in both a super-Strat and ML (Dimebag shape). They even had multiscale tremolos, a Kahler which I've never used but read that it can be used normally or locked to be like a hardtail. Quite the spec for Dean which is a company I would associate with a very narrow niche. Latest news suggests Dean is kinda falling apart though so I doubt we'll see these again...perhaps another company will try that setup. Ormsby guitars look really cool but it seems like they go the other way in terms of multiscale angles, they seem to be very extreme down towards the nut.

To be the best Schecter, is going to take a long term test, will the neck remain stable, will the forward bow remain steady under temperature, humidity, and string gauge changes, do they have multi piece necks, square truss rods, and carbon fiber reinforcement beams? High end necks can stay within .002" forward bow for years.

He did try the coil split on the bridge pickup in this demo, it doesn't seem to sound as good as that ultra-heavy twang of the Ormsby you mentioned though. I searched for the video you mentioned to check it out and apparently I did watch it years ago according to KZbin! Anyways had another listen and it sounded great. Better than a lot of the newer guitars that Andrew has demoed. I suppose there are a lot of aspects that go into making the perfect distorted tone. I love heavy and downturned split coil/single coil tones myself...I have a Schecter Reaper-6 atm and the pickups sound pretty average in humbucker mode, high enough output but just kinda muddy. But in split coil mode they sound great, really aggressive and tight sounding. The Rob Scallon model here does sound pretty good for an 8 string pickup but the Ormsby is better, and so is the Schecter Tao 8 that Andrew has reviewed more recently. I believe the pickups in the Rob Scallon model aren't Schecter's own manufactured USA pickups but import models made by the overseas guitar manufacturer (usually South Korea for their higher end import models). Not that it definitely means the non-USA pickups won't be as good, just interesting to see how they go about doing custom pickups for signature models. Perhaps they are able to customise them more effectively for the USA pickups and have more ability to get every aspect perfect to the artist's desires.

I’ve been looking for a good 8-string with passive pickups for several years now, initially thinking about Schechter’s C-8 MS Silver Mountain, but this looks way better, glad I waited! I do wish there was a 9-string version. Little torn between wanting 8 or 9. My main inspiration for wanting 9 is Mick Gordon/DOOM. One thing I don’t understand - the push-pull switch on the C-8 gives single coil tones, they say. Does the switch on this one do the exact same?

Depending on your tuning its not much different, just takes a bit of getting used to your "b" string shift being in a different spot if ya get me, like its in the same place but it just gives the illusion that its not if that makes any sense. You could of course tune that out but that makes some chord shapes quite difficult. It only took me a few days to get used to it and now i cant go back, a 6 string just feels like a toy now.

Honestly, I'm not sure the 27inch scale is the best for an 8 string unless you're not planning to go lower than F#. They've got other models with longer scale lengths which seem like better options if you're okay with straight scale guitars, like the Damien Platinum and the Hybrid. Hard to say about the pickups though, as this one has Rob Scallon's whereas the other Schecters have EMGs (808s or the 57/66s). It is their best multiscale though, as the Silver Mountain versions are the same scale length but with reportedly crappy pickups.
