I have mild scoliosis and a problem in my hip. I had really awful pain that persisted for two weeks in the muscles alongside my spine, my butt and down my leg no matter how much massage and streching I did. Then I tried these exercises and the pain was reduced immediately after. I've been doing them for a couple of days. The pain is gone now. Thank you so much!

***NOTE!! Regardless of the side, shape, or level of your scoliosis, these scoliosis exercises should be done on both sides! They will naturally stretch and strengthen the side that needs it the most without having to think about it. (They'll stretch the muscles one side more because the muscles one side are always tighter. They will strengthen one side more (the outer part of the curve) because that side has more resistance due to the curve, so needs it more. And they will mobilise one side more because one side will always be more tight and restricted.) But you don’t have to know where the curves are, or even think about it. Just do them regularly, both sides, to get scoliosis pain relief and prevent long term issues from having a scoliosis. In most cases they will NOT straighten the spine, because in most cases the shape of the bones have changed permanently as they grew. ("Adolescent Idiopathtic Scoliosis") P.S. You might notice that I have a mild scoliosis--you can see my neck bends to one side slightly. So I do these exercises too! 💪

Im76. As the years go by I’ve gotten shorten & it’s really hard to stand straight. My issues started at a very young age - less than a year old. My baby buggy fell down a steep flight of stairs. Feet turned under & start of back problems. Over the years I’ve had several other back injuries. Was 5.5 & now am 4.11. Chiro has helped some - therapy not much - & I refuse to let rods be put on my spine. Utube has recently had quite a few videos for scoliosis but yours seems to be one of the better ones and I’m going to be using 3 of the stretches . Thank you for posting them. One is similar to one of the therapy exercises I do but a more advanced way of doing it. Old bones need a lot of care.

I'm 71 YO, Male, now retired and a sufferer of a number of Spinal Conditions including Dextroscoliosis of 25 degrees (up from 22 degrees in the past 10+ years). I have had a few doctor opinions about the cause (Idiopathioc). In 1966, at 15 yo, I fractured my right Femur playing HS Football (not Soccer). It took over 4 months for the healing process which included being in a full Body Cast for 10 weeks after 6 weeks in traction in the hospital. When the cast came off, the doctor was "surprised" to find that my right leg was 1 inch Shorter(the femur was shorter). Other than measuring both my parents' legs (finding my mother was 1/4" short on the right), he left that Unaddressed. After about 15 years, the lower back pains and stiffness started affecting me. It's been downhill ever since. The Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD) is my Ground ZERO, despite one doctor opining otherwise?? Now, I have OA in my spinal vertebrae & Facet Joints; Stenosis at various sites in the spine, DDD throughout, C3-C7 disc bulges & stenosis, T9, T10, L2 L3 and L5-S1 disc buges (and Sponylioethisis ) and OA in both Hips and Knees. I never hit the 8-10 Pain Markers, but generally around 4-6 (It Varies), with constant Stiffness and chronic pains daily. I have seen 6 different Spinal and Neuro Surgeons since 2018 - all said NO Surgery on the Lumbar spine , far too much Arthritis. Acpuncture did very litle to help with the Pains, 6 different Chiros including Upper Cervical Chiropractic did little to help after many sessions. Many people fail to realize that Stenosis and Scoliosic curves affect the Nerves which in turn contributes to a high Misery Index. I will try these exercises, but the Stiffness in my spine limits me. FWW, I have ben taking many supplements to combat the Inflammation, spending lots of $$$$$ in that effort. I learned a few months ago from my Pain Management Doctor that my initial Cervical MRI done in 2012, revealed that I have a More Narrow Than Normal Spinal Canal. Common Sense to this Layman would indicate that would be a contributing factor to the heightened Misery and Anxiety.

Man, that's quite the list, Aldo. I feel for you. Sounds like you're best bet is gentle exercise, like the ones on this video, to mobilize the joints and loosen the muscles. As a quick update. I have tried some of these stretches and exercises with little help. New Xrays taken reveal (and I already knew) that I have advanced Degnerative Disc Disease with end spurs on the vertebrae of the Lumbar Spine (officially measured as 19 degree Dextroscoliosis) with a 5 degree Thoracic curve to the left. The DDD is a real problem as the terrible stiffness curtails much movement. With L5-S1 spondylioethesis and SI Joint Chronically Inflammed (Sacrosacrilitis) make bendi ng and twisting agonizing. Do you recommend Heat /Ice treatments too?😊

I overworked my spine over a year ago and the ambulance had to come and bring me to A & E. The pains were excruciating and even morphine medication didn't totally help. I spent 3 weeks on the couch. These were muscle cramps, but even worse due to my scoliosis. Additionally I have a lordosis, so I am in pain every day, but it is manageable. However something happened again a few days ago 😥

I have functional scoliosis. Have had it for the past 7 months. I tried 3 physiotherapists. I'm on my 3rd and they are helping me improve my posture and strengthen muscles around it but I still get back pain when I have to walk to school with a heavy bag. Or help my parents move houses with furniture. And it's very expensive. There's been improvement but very little. Im now 16 years and 3 months old. My scoliosis was a cause of 3 previous lower back injuries and muscle imbalances and weightlifting strain being my bulged disc, bruised tail bone and then generally sore lower back muscles from the nervous systems' trauma. ------ My question: at what age will my spine stop growing? I have a short torso by the way. Also I haven't tried doing the back brace to straighten my spine but everyone tells me because mine is functional it shouldn't be addressed with a brace. I wish I could figure this out without it costing so much money and time

Hello, I have had scoliosis for some 60+ years. My gym teacher noticed it when I was around 15-16 years old but I never told my parents. We were living in a small village, no help around... I was reminded some 5-6 years ago when I was on holiday at a friend's place. I was coming out of the shower, saw myself in a large mirror, and noticed for the 1st time that my left side was more curved than my right one which was nearly straight, and my waist hardly marked! I have seen physiotherapists and chiropractors, but nothing much has changed. Now, my left ribs touch my hip. I do some yoga but can't do the exercises where I have to bend over my left side as it hurts. I am surprised to see that you do say to stretch both sides, regardless what side the curvature is on. I am going to try your exercises because they look interesting but... I'm not sure I'll do some of those on the left side. I am seeing an osteopath in a couple of weeks. Is there anything specific I could ask him? He will notice my scoliosis for sure! Thank you for your very interesting video.

I’m always looking for stretches and exercises on the internet that help scoliosis. I have AIS since 13, left lumbar curve, or Levoscoliosis. Here in the UK there are not many professionals with much knowledge of scoliosis. These exercises are brilliant for keeping the back supple and flexible, which of course reduces pain. Interestingly, I notice Usain Bolt has scoliosis too- lumbar and thoracic in an S shaped. He is the fastest man in the world and works hard on building up his back muscles so you can hardly tell he suffers from it. I wonder, I have started using the gym now at age 42, as I have looser stomach muscles from having children. Is it possible do you think to build up the concave muscles to reduce the rib hump and support the spine better? It’s only recently my rib cage has started irritating me on the left side, it feels like something digging in sometimes, I wonder if it’s because my stomach muscles are not very strong? Thank You for the videos, I’m so happy I found this channel to use!
@BodyFixExercises2 жыл бұрын
The Schroth technique aims at reducing the curve and rib hump. You might have some luck with that, but it's more likely to help in teenagers, it's a lot of work, and I'm not convinced it can do much. The issue is that with AIS the bones change shape as you grow in the teenage years. Now that the bones have matured and formed their final shape (at 18 years old or so) you can't alter their shape. The rib cage pain could be rib restriction, muscle tightness, or arthritic joint degeneration. The exercises on this video are the best I know to help with the first two. But do them on both sides. I don't really think working the abs will make much of a difference to your rib irritation. This video may help too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/imnZfHaOhZyCicU Good luck!

Wow!! Watching this video made me realize that scoliosis is what I've been dealing with *mind-blown* thank you so much!! 2 quick questions for you: 1) Should I get x-rays at mychiro just to confirm and/or know what is structurally going on?? 2) May I continue to lift weights, so long as I do these exercises daily? Or, should I take a break or de-load and give it a month or two and let these exercises do there work uninhibited by load before returning to lifting weights?? Again, thank you so very much, cheers!! -Ryan

Xrays...it depends on the severity. If it's only a mild scoliosis, don't bother. Ask yourself this: will the results of the x-ray change what you do? In most cases, no. But ultimately, I can't answer the x-ray question for your specific case without examining you. I x-ray very few cases of scoliosis. Usually only if it seems pretty bad and the patient is young enough that we can still influence it's progression with things like bracing in severe cases. Don't stop exercising unless you're getting pain. Cheers Stefan

I found your job the most relevant and well-presented, thank you for that. I have mild Scoliosis between my shoulders, so my right shoulder is a little lower, and my right collarbone has more gap compared to the left side at the Sternoclavicular Joint (clicks with particular movements). I was wondering if the collarbone issue as I described is a common symptom in such a condition or not?

Differences in the SC joint is not something that is related to scoliosis. Or at least I've never noticed that, or read about it in relationship to Scoliosis

I had dorso-lumbar scoliosis since I was a child and I also wore a corset for a few years in my teens. Until recently my most prominent problem was a perpetually tight muscle near my left shoulder blade which often causes tingling in my hand and pain between my neck and shoulders, but over the past few years I have developed a much more annoying problem. It started with numbness in my lower back, which when it goes away leaves me with a not too strong but very annoying pain that often affects my left buttock and leg. Also I can walk for long distances without problems but standing still is often agonizing as my legs go numb and heavy and my lower back becomes heavy and sometimes slightly sore. According to my doctor I probably have sciatica from misaligned hips due to scoliosis, but I haven't had any tests yet to rule out a hernia or anything else. The exercises you showed were taught to me in the hospital years ago but since I have lower back and leg problems I'm a bit afraid to do them because I'm afraid they might worsen my condition, what do you recommend?
@BodyFixExercises Жыл бұрын
Numbness and heaviness are signs of nerve compression so I think the first thing that you should be doing is getting a MRI to check for spinal stenosis and disc protrusions. Numbness is not something to be taken lightly

Thanks for the exercises. I haven't found a patent recipe. From the picture of the scoliosis you can see that, in addition to lateral exercises, the upper body has to be stretched, i.e. lengthened. In most cases, the scoliosis is associated with a rotation, which cannot be seen in the picture. It is difficult to know how to reverse this twist.🤠
@BodyFixExercises Жыл бұрын
There's always lateral and rotation involved. You can't straighten them usually though
@siegfriedlechler7412 Жыл бұрын
@@BodyFixExercises With rotation, you could also aggravate the rotation if you get it wrong. I turn the upper body so that the pain in the vertebral joints decreases.

Hey Dr. I am 13 years old(almost 14 Turning 14 on the 01.02 )and have skoliosis on the lower side at the left from my side. Now my mom said I should start right now because when puberty ends it’ll be harder to fix it. But I have got some questions: Are these really the best things you can do to improve quickly or are there other sports or some little things to improve faster like a specific sleep position or sitting position? I am going to school every day and sit because of that most of the time on my chair and listen to my teacher. Should I change my position often? And should i do some small exercises in school or is it okay to wait until I am home? (I get home at 14:30) Also how long do I have to make these exercises to see some improvement or ever get it away forever?(just to set a goal for myself). THANKS FOR READING MY QUESTIONS and I am glad i found your channel you are literally changing my whole life. -Viktor
@BodyFixExercises2 жыл бұрын
Hey Viktor! Good on you for being proactive! Awesome questions. Mum's right. Now is the best time to start doing scoliosis exercises--before your bones fully mature. Try to keep active. Sports is good for you. Some people think lying face up is the best position to sleep in (but I think it's good to vary your sleeping positions too). You can change position if you do a lot of sitting, but don't be too worried about that. Just try to sit nice a straight, not too slumped. It's ok to wait until you get home to do your exercises, but try to do one lot of these exercises daily, when you can. If you are looking for extra things you could do, you could check out some videos on the "Scroth technique for scoliosis" and maybe go and see someone who specialises in that. (I'm going to try to do a video on that sometime soon.) Everyone is different, and there are different forms of scoliosis, so it's hard to predict how your spine will respond to exercises. The best idea is to see someone who specialises in spinal care and scoliosis so they can give you specific advice for your case. A scoliosis needs to be regularly checked before you fully mature to make sure it's not beginning to curve more. Most people (but not all!) with a scoliosis will always have a curve in their spine, so I always recommend to think of these exercises like brushing your teeth. (We do that twice a day for our whole life to take good care of our teeth, so why not do daily exercises for your spine to keep it healthy?) Stacks of people have a scoliosis (and other people hardly even notice that they have a spine that curves a bit), but with a good little daily exercise routine you can help keep your spine flexible and strong. Thanks for your message and questions!

Thanks Dear your videos are great! Much respect for you! How do I know if someone has 3 curve scoliosis or any other type of scoliosis please?! The causes? My daughter told me she have uneven hips and shoulders and we are not so sure about her neck but still got us suspicious On top of that she have pain on her upper shoulder around the rhomboid muscle on the left side with scapilar winging and hip pain around her glutius medius muscle on her right side as well, so what type of scoliosis is this please?!
@BodyFixExercises Жыл бұрын
Sounds like it curves to the left in the upper back, and to the right in the lower back. A professional can do an Adam's Test (forward bending test for scoliosis) to get a good idea where and how much the spine is curving. But an x-ray is the only definitive way to know for sure. If she is under 18y/o, especially much younger, you need to keep an eye on it because it can worsen during the teenage years.
@BodyFixExercises Жыл бұрын
The cause is unknown in most cases ("Idiopathic scoliosis" use the most common scoliosis and idiopathic means ... of unknown origen)

Saya berusia 30 tahun, terkena skoliosis sejak kecil. Tulang rusuk belakang sebelah kanan saya semakin menonjol hingga 50°. Apakah bisa normal tanpa operasi ? Terapi apa yang bisa membantu saya agar tulangnya tidak semakin melengkung dan rasa pegalnya hilang ? Mohon jawabannya

Thank you so much for your videos. I have S curve starting with kyphosis, 66 ° at thoracic spine, lesser at lumbar spine. Curve goes to right if looking at back. After auto accident 2020, pain has become unbearable. In 2011 curve was about 30°. A high impact accident tboned on left by truck going 65 mph - we were traveling 25 mph.(I was passenger, in US on right)- my husband was unconscious and jaws of life used to free him. Dog killed. We both spent two weeks at Trauma Units (I, Ortho, husband, Head injury) and 1 week rehab. Do you think such an impact(car was eviserated and traveled 3 city blocks)could have advanced the curve? I broke many ribs and right shoulder but now almost 2023 and it is the scolosis curve that is causing such pain (apex and radiates from...) It's complicated as I am in my 60's with osteoporosis. I was experiencing pain with PT (recently) so stopped. I walk every day 40 minutes briskly (hurts but afraid of atrophy). Do not smoke,drink, always exercised eat well. Your exercises look easy to do and could help with pain? What do you as a chiropractor think of ASMI? It seems to good to be true and could be dangerous for those with osteoporosis? Osteopath, Ortho doc never heard of and naturally sceptical. I have gotten zero from Ortho not even empathy and Osteopath is trying to help.I will be grateful for any advice or insight. I hope I can somehow return the favor.

There is a good reason to hope that your scoliosis can improve in your case. Here's why... Our bones mature and form their final shape by about 18y/o. The curve at this age is due to a change in the shape of the bones as you grow. Any treatment that claims it can change the shape of your bones is to be treated with suspicion. In your case this would be your original curve of 30°. But now its 66°. The extra 36° is unlikely to be from a change in the shape of the bone. So, in theory that part can be corrected.
@BodyFixExercises2 жыл бұрын
So, you are an exception. Something has increased the curve by 36° that isn't related to the shape of your bones as they matured. I'd say that it's likely to be muscle contraction or dysfunctional nerve impulses which control those muscles. That accident is probably why. So, I think it's worth trying gentle manipulation, acupuncture, ASMI, and the Schroth Method (look it up).
@BodyFixExercises2 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know much about ASMI. I wouldn't expect it to help a normal Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis case, but only half your curve is from Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis. The first thing you should do is get an x-ray, if you haven't already, and see if the extra curve is due to some vertebrae having collapsed (broken) during the accident. This could change the shape of the bones and result in the extra curve. (In which case I don't think you could reduce the curve, but some form of treatment could still give you pain relief)
@BodyFixExercises2 жыл бұрын
I was at a recent conference where I learnt of a horrible test that had been conducted on rats for an experiment. They somehow reduced the amount of movement detectors (proprioceptors) in the spinal muscles of rats, and the rats ended up with severe scoliosis. So, anything that could increase the stimulation of movement receptors could, in theory, help with a case like yours. Gentle manipulation, acupuncture, ASMI and the Schroth Method could, in theory, help your case. I hope this helps, and gives you some hope that you can find some relief. Cheers, Stefan

Hello doctor. I have s shaped curve. I am 40 years and my doctor advised me for a surgery. But he assured only 50% curve correction any spine is very stiff due to age. Does this exercise help to reduce the stiffness of the spine and give me more results after surgery? Looking forward for ur reply thank you
@BodyFixExercises2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the surgery they do. In many cases they FUSE the spine. If they do that, these exercises will not help because the spine cannot move any more. Make sure you get a second opinion before doing any surgery. Try the exercises. If you can do them comfortably maybe they can help.
