Today I'm going to show you how to make this creamy coleslaw with plenty of crunch.
There's no need to buy a big tub of coleslaw with an annoyingly short expiration date when you can whip up a perfect sized batch of homemade coleslaw in 5 minutes.
So good as a side for summer barbecues and lazy lunches, or as a topping for pulled pork and crispy chicken burgers.
Full recipe including hints and tips here: www.kitchensan...
Ingredients for the Coleslaw:
1/2 a large (or 1 medium) white cabbage
2 medium carrots - peeled
1/4 brown onion - peeled
1 cup (240g) mayonnaise
3 tbsp sour cream
1 tbsp white wine vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar - granulated or superfine
1/8 tsp mustard powder
Pinch white pepper

Yes, but soak the red cabbage in water a few times (like you would do rice), and it will get rid of a good bit of the red so it won't bleed into the slaw juices. Then once dried off, use some salt to help draw the water out. Both steps will help the slaw from getting too watery.

@@veronicamoorman1618 I keep the red cabbage and carrots separate and soak them in water by themselves. I sought the regular cabbage after it has been shredded. My guy tossed it in the bin when he tasted the onions in your coleslaw. He told me I had committed a crime against nature and his mama would never put an onion in coleslaw. Restarted from scratch (thank goodness I still had 1/2 a cabbage) and made it without the onions and added 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. It passed muster... He almost ate the entire bowl himself. No onions, no onions, no onions!

Thank you, this is a gift to mankind. I subbed monk fruit for the sugar and used dukes which is sugar free and everything else the same. What an incredible atkins friendly coleslaw tipping in at about 1 carb per ounce of prepared dressing, just unreal; nothing like this available from any food service company. Thank you. Most food service coleslaw products are anywhere between 5 g carbs to 12 g carbs per ounce !!!

Can this be done without sugar ? or will that ruin the taste?

This needs less mayo & sour cream, yogurt could always be substituted for the sour cream, & more onion. Once this sauce is mixed it needs to be thined out so it's not so gaggingly thick. Having a thick sauce takes away from the taste of the vegies, the sauce is only meant to "accent Not overshadow" the vegies.

My goodness, how do you put up with all those idiots who are complaining? Lovely recipe but could I ask you which make of mandoline you are using? Much appreciated!

Can i add just a small spot of horseraddish?
@lb6110

yes you can, I've done so and it's very tasty! Rather than adding your ingredients individually into your cabbage mixture, start with a separate smaller bowl and add a very small amount of horseradish mixed together with your Mayo, sour cream or yogurt and seasonings...and keep adjusting until you get the taste you're wanting. Also, I didn't use vinegar. Hope this helps!

How weird I made it before I watched this just put in what I thought would be good and it is very similiar but lemon instead of vinegar honey instead of sugar, honey mustard instead of dry mustard and no onion I was worried I shouldn't have added sour cream but you did. Lol I am letting it soak up the dressing a little.

I dunno where you shop, but here in CT Supermarket coleslaw is awful. Homemade coleslaw tastes so much better. Tour’s looks delicious.

Never heard of brown onion. We have yellow onion that has brown skins. Could that be what you are using? There is also a bold onion w/br skins. From USA
