As a child I accidentally added too much salt to my oatmeal thinking it was sugar. For some crazy reason my mother thought I should be punished and tried to make me eat the way too salty oatmeal. Since then I have avoided salt like poison... this video helped me sooo much. I had plateaued at 405 on my bench at 210 body-weight on a GREAT day. I have since been able to feel much better during workouts, less cramping, better pumps, and most importantly better lifts.

You are well spoken, intelligent, and highly knowledgeable in your field. People like you need more exposure and credit, because too often people see muscles and think "meat-head/dumb" or "Roid rage and cocky @$$hole". Most people don't understand the knowledge, drive, and work-ethic needed and say things like "If i took roids i could look like that". We should elect you as the bodybuilding/regular people liaison ;-) Thanks for videos.

Hi Garrett. I began to take a tablespoon of salt and put it in 8 oz of water and drink it 10 min before each training session. I have been doing this for about 5 training sessions, now. I don't know if it is the salt, but since high school my left knee has always ached. now at 43, and two years after beginning powerlifting training, my left knee feels literally like new! no joint pain, no stiffness and I do feel a little more powerful during training. I have also given up creatine. That noise was always in my mind. I don't miss it. I am all for a little salt water before training, now.

@Andre McGoo not true dude i'm very responsive to creatine and i can actually gain like 7lbs of water in my muscles and get leaner from creatine. i have taken creatine for 15 years now and it still works for me. when creatine doesn't work is actually when your bulking hard and eating lots of meat anyway. when i used to eat meat and bulk i would only gain like a 1lb of water from creatine as i ate lots of red meat. i'm actually a vegetarian now and damn creatine works like mad on my diet as it pulls water away from my abs in the diet phase. so stan is correct that creatine won't do much for a big meat eater but will do lots for a vegetarian or vegan.

@adventuresinthailand1232 жыл бұрын
I copied some of this from my post above, but wanted you to see it. The percentage of people with salt sensitivity is anywhere from 25-75% depending on factors. Reducing sodium is always worth trying if you are hypertensive or even pre-hypertensive. Monitoring the effect like you are doing is the best way to find out if it is effective for you. There is no standard way to test, but the most common is to severely decrease sodium for a few days to a week and then significantly increase sodium for the same amount of time while monitoring BP throughout. Considering the well established risk factors of hypertension, the significant percentages of sodium sensitive people, and the relative ease of self-testing, everyone concerned about their BP should give it a go. One more thing, which Stan has mentioned elsewhere, if you are worried about blood pressure, you should be just as concerned about getting enough potassium. Not only because the general health benefits of potassium are well established, but also because it has been shown to decrease BP, likely due to a role in sodium excretion. It also helps that the kind of diet necessary for adequate potassium intake is generally significantly healthier than one low in potassium and high in sodium.

Great rant and most interesting! But what about this? For more than 30 yrs we in the UK have been taught that sodium chloride is bad and too much leads to very unhealthy high blood pressure. We've been taught that there's salt in virtually all processed foods which adds to our intake so we should moderate use of table salt as a condiment. Also, that putting sodium chloride into cooking depletes the other ingredients of their naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. As a result of all the negative hype many of us barely touch the stuff and have had low salt intake for decades. What do you say about these things, please Stan?

If you are cramping then take with water, because it absorbs faster....and nerves use for signaling muscles. But but but normally take salt separately from water. Across the gut whichever side is saltier can pull water from the other, so drinking sea water will dehydrate you faster not re-hydrate. Use salt with meal, drink water a couple of hours later and the body can use the salt already absorbed into body to suck water across gut lining. Other electrolytes especially magnesium important too.

It's subjective. I eat clean as hell but there are folks that can eat "junk" and still stay jacked and lean. A lot of the clean eaters will shit talk those who eat stuff like Taco Bell for this or that reason but in all reality I think it's because eating the same bland shit week in and week out has made them miserable and misery loves company, so they'll shit talk the guy who can see the same results without having to stress every single meal. I like eating clean because now days if I ate Taco Bell id be on the shitter for 3 days lol but don't feel bad about eating stuff like that, as long as it's not creating negative results for you.

Bean buritos rock,if you eat of course more than one they're perfectly fine for protein-carbs.

Yeah my buddy who runs sprints says that he gets out of the blocks a lot faster after eating bean burritos. Pretty much anything with beans makes him explode out of the blocks.

Oh really? I thought it had more to do with the massive fart he is able to produce when he explodes out of the starting blocks!

Good Stuff! Just keep in mind that sodium is not the only important electrolyte. sweat basically has 4 main electrolytes: sodium potassium calcium and magnesium ions that needs to be replaced. sodium alone isn't enough

This is something to think about....and makes sense, reminded me way back in high school when our school kicked out all salt in our lunches and by week 1 of the football season we all cramped up so bad.... bruised calfs and could not walk good on Saturday...we started bringing our own salt and lunches the next Monday.

11:13 I heard about this guy, his name is Lot. God turned his wife in to a pillar of salt for doing that. Lesson learned. 😂

Thank you. I have been increasing my water intake but neglected adding the sodium tablets which probably why my hamstrings have been feeling tight lately too.

Good info. I have never heard anyone reccommend sodium. I have always listened to my body and have never cut sodium. Its good to hear what we always been told to cut back on. Dill pickles are the best. Nice hummer same one we roll in.

Most do not, if they eat clean. Have to add it to your plan, just like other things. Salt everything you eat and drink, like stan says you will be amazed at the difference it will make if your diet is in check.
