I can't tell you how much I appreciate your attitude towards horology. The fact that you can be as genuinely excited about your Seikos/G-Shock/Etc. as you are about your Breitling and other high end watches is a true testament to your unbiased and un-snobbish love for timepieces. Thanks for sharing!

Great comment. As someone just starting my journey into horology, it's great to hear respected watch reviewers talking with passion about the cheaper more affordable pieces. It shows newbies that you don't need thousands of dollars to kick start a collection and that the ultimate influence when selecting a watch for your collection is your love for the watch and not just its collectability.

I just found your videos about 2 weeks ago when I was researching the grey market after purchasing a Tissot on Amazon. I have to say I watch one or 2 of your videos daily. You have such enthusiasm for watches and reviews are great. My wife watched the video about your accent and she fell in love with you immediately. She loves how expressive your are with your eyes and she said "I can tell he is very kind from his eyes and expressions". Oh rambling there, I just wanted to say I am glad I found your videos and I just ordered my Timex T2N700. I have not worn watches in over 10 yrs. I wanted to try to use a watch and be less tied to my cellphone. Thanks for the great videos!

Vostok Amphibia. It isn't the most amazingly accurate automatic watch, but it is an amazing design and practically indestructible. 200 meter dive watch with an in-house mvmt that you can run over with a car for $60. If you haven't looked into its technical design, you should definitely check it out. It is designed to become more water proof the deeper it is submerged by using the pressure to its advantage.

I dont have a taste for digital or analog, though i do find it easier to read digital watches. I would like something thats a little bit sturdy. Maybe something a bit stealthy as well. Chris Ward C60 Trident 38mm and for something dressy a Seiko Sarb033... Or for something both a Tool Watch and you can Dress up at the same time try looking at a Seiko Sarg009. A rolex Explorer-ish look without ripping it off. Extremely beautiful and very understated.. put it on a leather nato for that man's man "i'm here to work" look or put it on a leather strap if you're ever gonna be in a suit. Correct.....very under-rated. 100m water resistance.... Eco-Drive ( solar power with 6 MONTH power reserve if left in the dark !), military/field style that the video reviewer correctly states never goes out of style, ...."almost never" battery replacement ( many reported to go over 20 yrs without battery change), hacking hands, day/date. 37mm dia, incredible accuracy ( 0.2 sec/day), super lume.....punches well above its $80-$100 price point. Add a leather strap and maybe add a crystal face protector for $3, ( to gain the benefit of BOTH mineral glass and sapphire crystal)...and you have one helluva watch !!.......

I had a period in my life when single and racking in the cash as the owner of a web design company I suddenly decided to collect watches. This comes back from a watch I was supposed to inherit in Cuba from my Spaniard grandfather his name Constantine an 18k pink gold Cartier Panther with a sapphire stem circa 1940. Of course, the Cuban government HAS IT!. So I started my collection with a Cartier Panther 18k Gold in the late 1970s Then I found a Santos 18k in Madrid as El Corte Ingles (the store going through a hard time) and i got a 40% discount. In Paris, I found a 2nd hand LIDHER Manual 18k Rose Gold with a rare snake band. I received a Cartier MUST quartz Vermillion circa 1970. Brand new again bought in Paris and may last were a Cartier Tank stainless quarts and a Cartier Panther Quartz Stainless. Unfortunately, my exorbitant income hit a mine field during the DOTCOM bubble burst. And my spending habits took a severe dive. One day I get a call from my preferred watchmaker saying "YOU MUST SEE THIS! That "Vacheron Constantine" automatic you have been drooling for 10 years.? IT IS HERE! FOR SALE and IT IS BRAND NEW ! I did not want to hear this...... But the flesh is weak and OMFG! Stainless, weighed a TON , stunning leather with a clasp lock . Seven functions. Back clicked to open and show movements all marked with the logo. Back interior back cover held a hand-painted design (but suitable for a memento) . The stainless finish was like the finest silver. all serial numbers , on certificate and watch . I am not an expert but my watchmaker is and he concluded .. "HOROLOGICAL COMPLEXITY" STUNNING work... Model 737998. Wanna hear the price? NO .. I do not just the solidity of this piece screamed MORTAGE ! And the gift box . OH MY. Gotta realize my watchmaker was an old timer Argentinian with wrinkles on his wrinkles and I think for the first time he smiles at me "Do not worry its FAKE!" This is about 25 years ago. It was in a lot he had bought in Europe. he went through it like he had hit PLUTONIUM. Finally,a call to the manufacturer sent him to their Atelier Cabinotiers. SORRY FAKE. But the factory would like to be brought to a store in NYC. They would NOT confiscate it. Their assessment "EXCELLENT" with one flaw, the edges of the back opening lid had not been polished , BUT even the leather band had a valid serial number So..... would *I* want to buy it ? The watchmaker said that technically he HAD to return it but fuck it.... $500.00 is mine. I bit ..... In 25 Years I had a mishap , I hit it and the main crown with the cross fell off and the stem cracked . Guess who provided the parts ? Vacheron Constantine. So for an idiot like me, it seemed cool , for a master, it was a GREAT forgery of la Mona Lisa. After 25 years is my favorite watch and I just hate to get compliments cause I do not know what to say.

You, sir, have excellent taste in watches! And your recommendation for affordable watches is fantastic! As for recommendations: how about Raketa? My father has a Raketa wrist watch that works up to this day and is also quite nice, maybe even on the elegant side... Ok, the watch is some 25 years old now, but it still works!

The G-Shock GW5610-1 is an amazing watch for the price (around $100). It mimics the case design of the original G-Shock and has all the basic functions of your Mudman. You also get a solar battery and atomic clock syncing every night via radio to avoid having to set the watch or replace the battery very often. It is understated like you mentioned and almost classy for a G-Shock. One of the smallest they make. I honestly can't think of a more functional or practical watch for the money. Btw I'm new to the watch hobby and love your channel. Currently switching off between a SARB033 and a G-Shock GW-5000. Looking at the Bambino and my first Swiss piece soon (maybe a Hamilton). Cheers!

The G-Shock is really awesome because it's radio controlled and solar powered. My absolute favorite in this collection!

Another vote for the Seiko SNK. I bought the bracelet one in 2009, I've worn it to work everyday since then and it is a fantastic watch. After all these years it's looking nicely used, not battered or worn, but used.

I actually just ordered the second watch you highlighted, the Seiko. Got it for $45 from Amazon. Very heavy watch, but feels good on my wrist so far. I got the blue one and I'm really happy to have it.

I'm in love with Orient. They really make fantastic watches. I own a Mako, not the CEM, but the FAA generation which is more recent and has a new movement, it's more reliable, it can be hand wound and it's hackable! All of this just for 200€! Really great watches! Thank you for this video, TGV. Best regards, Michele.

I only just (May 2018) discovered your channel. Let me say first, I really enjoy your videos. They are fun but also informative to a "watch novice" like me. I am also a fellow Englander living in the US so I feel a certain affinity.... The first of the 3 watches that I currently own I bought new in 2002. It's a Swiss Army quartz model, and though they are "common as muck" as we used to say in Blighty, I still really like it. It has a very clear dial ans I recently treated it to a new leather strap that I bought from Esslinger. That has definitely given it a nice "refresh". You did invite comments, in this case particularly about watches in the $100 price zone. Now I know that you will shudder, but even at this early stage I am finding thrift stores good for occasionally picking up enjoyable. watches. The other two watches I have, I bought in thrift stores.the first one is a Brookes Brothers branded quartz watch. I know that you will probably regard this as a "fashion watch"b ut it costs me $13 and looks terrific. This week I bought my third watch at yet another thrift store. This time I came down the price scale and got a Timex quartz watch....for $6. It has a really, really clear dial, with a white dial and black hands. It also has a day and date display and so far is keeping excellent time. Now I know that these are very cheap watches but they are just giving me a lot of enjoyment.of the watches that you described I think the Orient Mako is visually very appealing so when I feel like splurging out I might buy one. Thanks for you videos: for a novice like me they are very encouraging and, more importantly, educational.

Thanks for your videos, i love them, i bought several very nice watches thanks to you. But, this time, i'd choose for the first choice the Casio G-Shock dw 5600 E, instead of your choice. Thanks a lot, please, keep on with theese very very nice videos.

You just ignited my interest in watches to a whole new level. And I just got my tax return. UhOh. Got another nice Bulova and just ordered the Seiko SNK809K1 (metal band). Thank you for your videos. Your variety is fantastic. There is something for everyone.

Wonderful show, as always. On the theory that anyone who can afford a $100 watch can probably afford a $200 watch, I'll mention the following: 1) new Bulova Aerojet series - clean mid-century design. 2) various offerings from Claude Bernard (avail from your friends on Long Island); brand has very little footprint in the US but it's worth a look, for dress watches.
