Just adding another "K" is becoming a trend. Where is the innovation? I don't understand why truly innovative startups don't get covered like these stupid new TV with more "ks" do. A startup by the name of Q Blocks launched a Smart TV that can mine crypto at the CES. There tag line was also quite funny : "Netflix and chill while it pays your bill "....i guess there website is this one: www.qblocks.tv/ . But no one really knows about them because the paid media is busy covering LG's of the world.

Samsung is still holding out to compete with OLED. If their tech can truly match the deep blacks of OLED while maintaining the brightness and wide color gamut of their QLEDs, they have an OLED killer. They may also anticipate Sony dropping a bombshell and commercializing their CLEDIS display before they go to market with MicroLED.

Where are the 12 bit panels? Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ can't realize their potential without 12 bit! What about banding? What about screen uniformity? Apparently those very important shortcomings in most current 4K TVs aren't worth addressing. Instead the manufacturers are ignoring all that and now pushing 8K? Other than UHD Blu-ray there is no true 4K content. Netflix and KZbin put out only a very compressed version of 4K. Cable TV only uses 720p and 1080. Broadcast TV can only transmit at 1080i. WTF are consumers going to do with 8K? Oh, and I'll bet those 8K sets also have the same problems with screen uniformity and banding that the current 4K TVs have.
@dsoprano13
@dsoprano13 5 жыл бұрын
I imagine 12bit will be next year. But banding is very difficult to see with 10bit. The main advantage would more than likely be more realistic skin tones in 12bit.
@gibbo271
@gibbo271 5 жыл бұрын
12 bit panels i guess will be replaced with microled.. And i see reasons to why like how old is not the led lcd tech? Why continue building on that when there is a another type of technology that are far surpior?... Sure 10 bit will still be used as a low end option. Thats what i think would happen in either two years or next year..

We're still lacking in 4k content to watch so what would I be able to watch to take advantage of the 8k screen? Seems like TV makers are moving too fast. Most people like myself are just getting their first 4k set and it will be years before they upgrade to 8k.
@eventusvantos2770
@eventusvantos2770 5 жыл бұрын
People said the EXACT same thing for 4k. You have to realize that content creators will not go through the trouble of filming 8k if there aren't any devices that can play it. So there has to be a start. So why wait. Get started and start experimenting with consumers to get their feedback so the that can technology can continue to improve instead of being stuck by content creators. What's this means is that you will have a future proof tv with the greatest quality content for the well past 10 years easily.
@eventusvantos2770
@eventusvantos2770 5 жыл бұрын
@resigned liberal yes we do. You just have to specify it. We shouldn't be going backwards in technology just because some people are too lazy to specify for 4k content.
@leecaste
@leecaste 5 жыл бұрын
resigned liberal you forget that all that footage you talk about has antialiasing which is a TRICK to compensate the lack of pixel density and this trick decreases sharpness. Moire effect is also a problem because of the lack of pixel density. As long as these problems are present, pixel density needs to be increased no matter how big the screen is or how far you are from it.
@eventusvantos2770
@eventusvantos2770 5 жыл бұрын
@resigned liberal yes it is 4k if not even better. Movie cameras use the best of the best high end cameras. Same goes for cgi. Companies have the budget to spend millions on it and insure high quality. Secondly you are over thinking it big time. Its not that big and even if it was number one you can compress it and number two with fiber optic cables and soon 5g the speeds and data transfers which will be much faster and larger. Thirdly no that is utter horseshit. Anyone who can't tell the difference between 4k and 1080p should get their eyes checked immediately. Assuming they even have any ofcourse. You are literally blind if you can't tell the difference. Its a night and day difference. By your logic then you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080p which is equally absurd to claim 4k is not ridiculous at all. Its already the norm. And 8k is the future. Not absurd at all. what's absurd is your ignorance and you thinking its absurd. 8k is the future and especially with the rise of 5g more and more companies will produce content for it. Again someone has to make the move. Content creators won't bother to make content for a nonexistent device. The device has to first exist so its up to companies to make the move instead of just sitting there waiting for creators to play catch up. Besides it works out in the end since by releasing the tech now it allows for it to be continuly developedand improved becomes more affordable all while more content is added. so it ultimately works out perfectly.

@@eventusvantos2770yes, movies are shot in 4k, 6k or even 8k but it finished in 2k. Most movies you watch at cinemas are 2K. With CGI scene at 1080p upscaling to 2k due to the time it take to rendering. Most theatre are still using 2k projector. And working with a 4k version in post is more expensive than 2k obviously, especially if large parts of your movie involves CGI. Ideally, those should be rendered in 4k too. Even IMAX use 2(2k) projectors. TV market is just trying to rip off people money. Recently, i was doing lots of research into buying 1080p or 4k tv and i ended up buying the 1080p tv 49'' inch. you can notice the difference between 4k and 1080p at this screen size only if you are like 30cm close to the Tv. IF you sit far away you won;t notice the different at all. HD look good enough. if you even buy a 4k tv make sure it has HDR; good colour deep, good contrast :))

A bandwidth bottleneck prevents this right now. Only fiber optic internet can handle this and that is currently not in many places. You ever see pixelation occur on the TV when confetti is falling at a sporting event or some concert or award show? That's the bandwidth problem. Cable and satellite are just not fast enough to provide the signal in high fidelity as the image across the screen is rapidly changing.

With almost every TV manufacturer jumping on 8K, they have officially run out of ideas. We barely have enough 4K content as it is and the promise of upscaling will be barely perceptible on anything outside of a 100 inch plus panel with your nose up to the screen. The only other big news is the roll out of HDMI 2.1 but that is of practically no use to anyone outside of the ultra enthusiast gamer who needs a monstrous amount of bandwidth. And you should be able to get eARC on the HDMI 2.0 standard. We wait until Micro-LED is ready for market.

@@andrewmckibben2637 Sure, for the less than 1% of consumers that can actually afford a TV the size of their wall or LG's fancy rollup OLED, they have plenty of ideas. For everyone else, 4K is a crystal clear image and is already very affordable and at least has content. Are you actually saying it is not that available? When was the last time you even saw a 1080p TV for sale? The screen size needed for the 8K difference to be even noticeable in the slightest would be 80-inch plus at the very least. And what about bluish tint ? I hate that. My last Japanese 4k tv was sent back to seller. Impossible to adjust the blue colors manually. I know that blue is needed to increase the brigtness. A cinema enthusiast doesn't need more brightness, even a deep constrat with no detail in the blacks during dark scenes. Sorry but I hate this new generations of 4K or 8k, with too bright image, absolutely not realistic. Only an ISF calibration can solve the problem, but it is very expensive. We didn't need that with TV tubes... We bought what we see ! And I know it for sure : I am still using them, and their image is far better from any Chinese made flat lcd screen...

the rolling TV sounds cool but it's a bit gimmicky. Not sure why you need to roll it up. They're running out ideas for innovation. 8K TVs. Why make 4K obsolete so quickly when 4K content is so limited as it is and 4K tvs have such small penetration currently?
@seinfan9

These conventions are mostly for showing off potential mass market appeal and help create a buzz. Having an 8k option doesn't render 4k obsolete. KZbin still plays videos in 144p...

Vizio is the only company from the list here that is not making any TV sets, they are just branding China engineered ones. They have a staff of about 100 people, do you really think they could engineer , design, and manufacture TV sets with personnel of 100 people? Americans simply can`t make TV sets, it is too complicated for them. The last TV set a US manufacturer made was in 1995. It was Zenith, even then it made Japanese TV sets under license.

I think 8k as a resolution will be the 1080p to 4k's 720p or even 1080i. Sure, there is no 8k "content" right now because TVs today, and for a long time, have become digital display mediums. Else, when the studios start to scan analog film stock at higher resolutions, I think most film stock with the exception of 65/70mm IMAX will be covered by 8k. In terms of resolution, the most I can see is going 12k or if we want to be crazier, 16k, to really approximate what 65/70mm IMAX can truly deliver. Besides resolution, at this point, I am just more interested in digital technology that can produce a higher dynamic range, color gamut (2020 until the next standard), accurate motion (possibly the inclusion of higher framerates), lower input lag with wired and wireless accessories (especially video game related), and possibly even different operating systems as the internal hardware for all these innovations become smaller and more powerful. The only limiting factor I see is the capability of our own eyes. What's the point of an 8k monitor if it doesn't scale well or an 8k TV if it's small and has heavy sun glare hitting it? There is a reason movie theatres use huge projection screens in a dark environment. The real maturing of innovation for the common consumer market is 10-15 years in the making seeing that TV and panel development doesn't seem as exponential for neither the consumer nor the professional when considering development and consumption costs. Makes you realize why 35mm film and DCI 2k have still been in the game for nearly 20 years. Same for console video game systems who have promised high refresh rate 1080p content for the past 15 years in highly demanding games at a consumer-friendly cost.

TVs are overhyped, all you need is a decently big screen and sit far away to not even be able to tell its resolution and voila, no need to pay the “small sum” of 3500 dollars for a fancy screen that will be considered old in 3 years
