Great video Dan. Makes me think of a Mark Twain quote. “Worrying is like paying a debt you don't owe. I have spent most of my life worrying about things that have never happened."

In the chronic pain community, unfortunately, most of the worrying is about things that do happen.

Lately I've been thanking negative thoughts for trying to keep me safe, just like the sensations in my body. Then I'll say something to the subconscious brain, I know about this and we're safe, I've got this. The negative thoughts disappear and have lessened. Sensations, pain, negative thoughts all come from the same place. In a way, we don't want to fight thoughts any more than we want to fight pain or sensations. And of course, engaging in interesting, fun, meaningful things is also important.

Really interesting approach. Thank you! Most brain retraining programs encourage to say "stop" or "shush!" whenever we catch a negative thought, and then rewire the thought into sthg positive. Though rephrasing my thoughts positively have been helpful, I think I will stop the "stop" button and start welcoming my negative thoughts with a "hello!", "thank you but I don’t need you", "I don’t believe in you". ❤

If anything negative pops up I say ( and feel) 'I Dont Care.' Its liberating and exhilarating. My method now is: 'Take Care; Don't Care; Trust.' .powerful stuff and .Its working. Before that I was doing Pattern Interrupt with a 'Yeehaw ...' and a power pose 🤣🤣 Thanks for all your guidance Dan. You are a blessing

Great topic Dan. In the past year I have started saying: “I reject that negative thought “. This pertains not only to symptoms, but any other negative or impure thought that may cross my mind. It works. Thank you for your dedication to this topic. Notice I didn’t say ‘work’ because it isn’t work, as you say.

Yep, to not think of a blue car is to think of a red car or a dog or whatever else. In this chaotic world, it helps to focus on other things than the drama. It helps to know the gist of the issue, but the details just feed the negative.

It's a good video, but what I don't get is how to engage in life, when the pain is so strong, you can't sleep, walk adequately or function like a normal human being. Basically I can barely leave the house at all due to constant nerve pain no matter what I do. Also I wake up in the total middle of every single night because lying down presses on the nerve. Until I wake up in pain I'm completely relaxed, also I try to remain calm when I wake up after 4 hours of sleep. However it doesn't change anything of the pain. Whether I freak out or stay calm, it stays on level 10/10 and I can't sleep anymore. These are the moments, because it is every single stupid night, when I lose it completely and going back to the "structural train". Got my nerve pain after surgery. Never had anything like that my life before. Now I'm crippled.

Hello…I would just like to try to encourage you because I have been there with migraines and chronic daily headaches for almost 10 years. You are a bit in triage mode…but you can change little things each day…even if it’s changing the way you think about your own thoughts…stay consistent with Dan’s videos and try to implement one thing each day…wellness momentum will start to build. Be patient and kind to yourself…you will improve day by day…it will stop… What matters is your Mindset. What matters is giving your brain consistent messages of safety. Dan’s methods work 🌸

Try magnesium oil. Also check your b12 the active part not the total, (here in UK the NHS only tests total amount, pretty useless test)and vitamin D levels. Pain after surgery recovery time is a scared brain sensation . Nerves do heal. Take hope that if you can actually get some sleep pain free is evidence that your brain can switch off. Been where you are, it sucks. You can come through, bit by bit. Wishing you calm.

Appreciate your comment. I already tried Magnesium together with B12 und D with no effect whatsoever. Instead it gave me digestive issues because I was taking above daily recommended dose. However I try not to give up, but it's mostly like surviving and not living each day. It really sucks. @@1STBUCKLEY

Thanks for your comment. I try. Actually I don't feel any danger consciously, I'm feeling safe every day. Except that I can't function and sleep at all what would scare everyone I guess. Mostly I lay on the couch all day because I barely can move and am tremendously exhausted. @@BristleCone61

This was a gret one as always. You are doing such a great and "easy to take in" work in helping brain retrainers getting tools and hope with your calm warm and clear approach, thank you so much Dan❤ Im in a post covid and have been for some years, I have most of the time been living (almost) as usual concerning work (work a little bit less), family and keep my excercise as a part of my life ( with lower expectations and efforts). I started with DNRS but am now using diffrent tools from diffrent programs and recovering experiences. I think Im pretty good in prioritizing myself.. of course I doubt if im on the right path since Im still here. It is to clear that I am still in doubt, mostly when new scary symptoms hits and since I have never felt totaly symptom free after my sickness .. I would love to hear recovery stories from people that after the big trigger still could live life a bit as before and at the same time be able to calm that nervous system down. Is there any stories like that in your library? I will to check in on your on call..the time zone can get in the way I guess (sweden)Thank you for a great great page🙏❤

From a psychotherapy perspective, your video had me thinking that ACT could maybe be more helpful than CBT in the case of TMS negative thinking. I agree its exhausting to "reframe". ACT would just say be "willing" to have whatever negative thoughts. Dont try to think them away. Maybe here we just add the element of recognizing what is going on with TMS and not take them seriously. So being willing to have them, but not believing/attending them.
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 2 ай бұрын
Since I am not a therapist, I don't speak about ACT or even how too much knowledge of their process. But, I do quite often say to allow and not take our own thinking so seriously. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnWahGaIhqh5gqs

Ok I get that but what do you do when the negative thought is valid. Thoughts like "I better get up and go to work." the danger for my brain is that I will lose my job. And that in reality would happen.
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 10 ай бұрын
If it's valid, it's not really a negative thought. It's an instructive thought. If you don't go to work, you will lose your job. A good question to ask. Is this true? Am I better off listening to this thought? If yes and yes. You have your answer.
@BarneyR2

@@PainFreeYou ok, I have a lot of "instructive" thoughts because I tend to be a logical thinker. I wonder how the brain responds to instructive thoughts. Can the brain still perceive such as dangerous.
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 10 ай бұрын
Sure, if the thoughts create a feeling of unsafety, that could be considered danger. If it's factual and unemotional and creates safety by resulting in an "oh well, no biggie, I guess I had better go to work", that's safety. @@BarneyR2
