The Best Wing Foiling Wings of 2023 | MACkite's Top Picks

Tucker and Jeff from MACkite recently hosted a special event, the 2023 Wing Awards, where they highlighted the best wing foiling wings of 2023. They emphasized that the gear considered for these awards includes products released or on sale in 2023, regardless of the model year.
The first award, for the easiest foil wing in light winds, was given to the North Loft Pro. Praised for its ease of use and powerful performance, it's a favorite in their shop and lesson programs, making foiling in light winds accessible without needing advanced skills.
The best performance in light winds award went to the Duotone Ventis D/Lab. This wing is ideal for pumping and getting up on foil in the lightest conditions, offering a broader range once you're up. Though not as straightforward as the North Pro, it provides excellent performance for light wind surfing and has three struts for stability.
For high winds and waves, there was a tie between the North Mode Pro and the Ozone Flux. Both wings are versatile, excelling in racing, freeride, freestyle, and wave riding. The Flux is slightly better for surfing and lighter, while the Mode Pro is faster and performs better upwind.
The top value wing of 2023 was the Cabrinha Mantis. This wing stands out for its affordability and performance across all levels, from beginners to seasoned riders. It's versatile, intuitive, and particularly strong in surfing, offering a great balance of features at a competitive price.
The award for the best "sendy" wing, designed for big jumps and high-speed performance, was given to the PPC M1. Known for its stiffness and lift, it's ideal for heavy riders, offering a smooth landing even after big jumps.
The top wing seller of 2023 was the Duotone Unit. Its popularity stems from its high performance, ease of use for beginners, and versatility in various conditions. It's particularly effective for learning maneuvers like jibes and tacks, offering immediate power and stability.
Finally, the "Future Now" award went to the Ozone Fusion, a revolutionary dual-skinned wing with design influences from squirrel suits and Ram Air kites. It offers a huge range, excellent upwind and downwind performance, and handles overpowered conditions smoothly. While it might not suit beginners, its unique design and capabilities set it apart as a future-forward option.

Great that you guys are willing to stick your necks out! Keep on doing this kind of thing, plse. We all know every shop/foiler will have their own top 5 list, but for us it's something different and reminds one to keep an open mind. I'm super happy with a FOne 5m and Flysurfer 7m, but you've given me insight in other brands I wouldn't have thought of looking at (we don't have the time to watch/read up on the many wings that are currently available).

Really surprised to not see the F One Strike v3 in the list or even mentioned. It has been a huge jump in performance for me. Very stable too, unlike other brands that seem to endlessly oscillate on the flag handle…

Nice video, but you should qualify that the Mantis is the "best value wing that you sell". Both Takoon and Gong are cheaper and better value, especially for beginners.

As usual great video. I notice for lite wind you guys went with the ventis and North Loft - your previous light wind video from earlier in 2023 went with the F1 CWC and North Nova - any follow up on that?

CWC lost some low end grunt for 2023, still a great wing but requires more skill and technique. 2024 gains some low end lift again. Loft is a big upgrade from Nova. Especially if you need an 8m.

Great rundown! What would you say is the best high wind wing? I have mode pro 5.5 and 4.2, but for the big Rufus days and days like last week here in the 🎉Puget Sound when it blew into the low 40’s I need something smaller than the 4.2. How’s the mode pro 3.5? Is it made for the high wind or is it more of a light rider 4.2 equivalent? Thanks Tod

The Mode Pro is certainly in that discussion. I'd also toss out the Ozone Fusion and Ozone Flux. But, it also depends on the conditions and what you want from a high wind wing.
