We visited the house a few years ago and really enjoyed it. However,even better(in our humble opinion) is the nearby holiday home of the D'Oyly Carte family,Coleton Fishacre.Its an absolute gem and well worth a visit.

I’m glad you like this part of Devon it’s so enjoyable, back in 1973 my father hired a boat and we left Dartmouth passing Greenaway on our trip. In a creek on the far bank downstream from Greenaway was a Barque at anchor it was as if you were looking at an pre-twentieth centure old master. The creek remains but the barque has long gone. I have been to Greenaway and loved it, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I paid extra to have lunch in the kitchen and it was a great experience. After it was over just standing on the banks of the river Dart and watching the river flow by was enjoyable. I would hightly recomend a visit.

A beautiful house, full of fascinating collections (definitely no minimalism there), and what a setting! As a child we holidayed once in Devon at a little remote (lost in lush vegetation) coastal bungalow 4 miles south at Stoke Fleming. That was over 50 yrs ago, and I still recall the smells, sounds & sights of that whole beautiful wild location, and memories of my dear late Dad who, with his characteristic kindness for all things, rescued a tiny shrew with a bucket in the kitchen, to put it back out in the wild again. Lovely subject, lovley video. Btw...always jam first! :)

Ohhh, not sure about being in Devon you two.😊 scandalous cream first 😮 I went to Mevagissey while down on holiday and after your recommendation went into the Tea Cup tea room. Huge Cornish scone. But a wonderful experience with the tea. I had Cornish cream tea and it was amazing. Thank you two.

Wonderful editing especially at the start at the video. & we did enjoy your trip to Greenaway. We arrived there several years ago by SteamTrain (very romantic) we were met by an ‘old fashion car’ and taken up the hill to the ‘Grand House” and when we finished our tour we were returned to the station in the same way. We really enjoyed Greenaway and would recommend it. Thank you Andrew andSarah for another interesting video.

This was an especially fun treat! Thank you! And...Dartmouth = Mouth of the River Dart. Duh. The things you never realize when you live in another Country. I'm thrilled to learn Agatha's real boathouse was the inspiration for Dead Man's Folly, and the location of the film. Doesn't get better than that. The mural of American Navy ships is fascinating! I've been going to tea here in San Diego since the early 90s, and as far as I recall put the cream on first, though I later learned that the Queen preferred it your way. As a fellow American I feel I can "out" him... I laughed so hard when I saw (in a video showing American actors Austin Butler (Elvis) and Timothee Chalamet trying British foods), Timothee putting his jam and cream on top of the scone without splitting it first! LOL. :D

Defiantly on my bucket list, my best friend from my teaching days (the chemistry teacher) is a huge Agatha Christie fan we had hoped to go this summer but unfortunately I was laid up for several weeks so had to make do with listening to her stories on CD while recuperating. I thought that the Lucy Worsley biography and TV documentary was very good and well worth a read and watch.

I've visited too.. about ten years ago and it looks just as good now 👌😁. It's such a beautiful setting... can totally understand why Agatha loved it so much... She was a lucky lady to have it for her holidays. It's been kept very well hasn't it. Glad you enjoyed your cream teas... Went here in February this year. Great house and gardens, as you've stated. Only need to mention that the car park is a bit tricky to get to. I believe we had to book our visit in advance due to limited car parking space.

Interesting Mystery, Agatha Christie is the greatest author of murder mysteries, I have read dozens of her books, and watched many movies over the years ….. the time honoured question jam or cream first is a matter of choice ….. I had my friends searching the countryside for them …. It was very tricky handling them I remember 😂

Lovely house. I loved Poirot. Jam first, helps the cream stick, never understood why Devon was cream first. Always find the scone breaks up. If you make a victoria sandwhich it's always jam first. 😂😀👍💗

Although the house (with a floor plan by the makers of Cuedo!) and it's location were grandeur than the little Tremayne Quay I preferred the latter for it's lower footfall. I went to greenways a few years ago on a very old coach / bus from Paignton. It was £10.00 then had to pay to go round the house it’s a wonderful place to visit I love all Agatha Christie’s books and productions . I also visited with my dil the house was covered in scaffolding and green sheeting I was disappointed with the outside. My daughter in-law loved it And trekked down to the boathouse my mobility wouldn’t let me would have been ok going down but would struggle back up. Can I ask if you have been to Bedruthan steps on any trails .I first went there with my parent s and many times with my husband it’s a favourite beach thank you I can visit with you but not do the walking steps on any of your walks

Fun vlog. Did you know scientists have researched the Devon vs Cornish way to bring some clarity into the debate!... 1) the Devon way won in context of physical properties such as density and viscosity...ie it is easier to dollop the more viscose jam onto the less viscose cream. But 2) the Cornish way won in terms of "perception of sweetness" because the cream hitting the taste bugs first reduced the sweetness intensity of the jam that follows. .. however the OVERALL conclusion from the science says the main thing that decides what "taste's better" is the ratio of the cream:jam:scone if comparing the Devon vs Cornish way (as long as the TSI values for each of the 3 components are the same)...so it doesn't matter which way you order the jam and cream! But they also conclude just from a spreadable and stability point of view, the Devon way makes more sense. TSI =TOTAL SWEETNESS INDEX Guys, the steam train is part of the "Round Robin"..which includes boat down river, steam train along coast, and double decker bus back to start.

Devon is more upmarket than Cornwall (sorry to have to say that, but it is in my view). It's also much prettier and tidier. The areas around the River Dart are breathtaking. Agatha Christie's house really is something of beauty and all the things in it. Very homely. Haven't had a cream tea for years. Cream always on top. Thanks for the fascinating and very well produced video.

Nature isn't tidy but wild and rugged - if you prefer, what, to me, is over manicured places, good for you, you have that right. Each to their own but there is no need to be rude about what is not to our own, personal, taste.

@@lynnoorman2144 I’m referring to hedgerows and trees. Cornwall is an overgrown mess in that regard thanks to Cornwall Council stopping the maintenance of hedgerows back in 1994. You can see over the hedges in Devon and admire the rolling hills. In Cornwall, you are driving through dark overgrown tunnels with thick brambles which stick out into the road. It’s depressing. When I moved into my village in 1990, I had lovely views of distant fields and the church a mile away. Now, all that is gone because the hedges have not been cut back and hence have turned into trees. If you look back at old photos from 100 years ago, the hedgerows were tiny and everything smart. There’s no land management here now. It’s a disgrace.
