For over 3500 years, the God Emperor of Dune tyrannically steered the future of the Imperium toward the Golden Path, a meticulously executed plan aimed at ensuring the long-term survival of humanity at the cost of individual freedoms. This plan required his transformation into a hybrid monster, yet deep within the Worm God lay a delicate strand of pure humanity. This facet of his being was directly exposed by the appearance of a singular individual, Hwi Noree, ingeniously crafted to prey upon what some thought to be a latent vulnerability.

As a twincest fan, Ghanima and Letoll as individuals had a connection love from being preborn but having their parents memories they already knew understood sexual bonds but never did it with each other esp during possessed. In the book God Emperor it is said Hwe Nori bonded with Letoll worm stole his heart because the Tlhelaxu bred her with Ghanima genes to try and break him as she filled the same companion ship same mind the his twin had given him still she died leaving Letoll utterly alone for centuries.

I get the feeling she was the final push that was ultimately needed. Imagine thousands of years of many and different torments.. all torturing you mentally, physically & possibly even spiritually. I was always fascinated by the idea that Leto II attraction to Hwi was her innocence. The corrupted being drawn to the uncorrupted because they are a reminder of what had been lost. She was a trap laid by virtue of not being a trap, whatever moral wrongs went into her existence she herself could not be responsible for her own creation.

In the end all serve the god emperor in some way even those who oppose him. I've just finished re-reading God-Emperor which, to this day, I consider the best of the original Dune novels. Regarding his relationship with Hwi, his sudden decision to relocate his upcoming marriage to the very place where his most obdurate enemies were congregated seem to confirm your intuition about her role. Despite stating he never looked into his own future, he knew he had to die under very specific circumstances and he seem to have chosen the when and where in the end.

He existed in a situation that already took so much from him, he didn’t have much of choice in combatting the pressure of the golden path since he was a baby. In death he probably wanted her to himself, he couldn’t have any “toys,” he always had to think for the betterment of humanity , maybe he felt he’d die with his favorite one and only “toy.”

I don't know much about dune, but what I'm hearing here is Hwi Noree is basically _Smurfette._ She was designed by evil wizard Gargamel to sabatage the Smurfs and sow jealousy and chaos because she was the only female a smurf could be with, but she ended up being more of a boon to the smurfs than anything and helping them, and showing how good the smurfs are for accepting her. Hwi was designed to sow chaos and jealousy by being a perfect partner for the (secretly benevolent) tyrant Leto II God Emperor, and she ended up helping Leto II WAY MORE than she hindered him, reaffirming is journey down the Golden Path and showing how good he was for accepting her.

This is my favorite book in Frank’s amazing collection. Soooo deep in provoking thought and teaching, story telling. Leto sacrificed him self selflessly, being a predator out of love, to create chaos making him a true hero. It’s actually so sad. Crap it’s so complex it’s hard to convey. lol.. I just realized something though I could be wrong. Both Paul and Leto 2 were thrown in a pivotal role in human history, but both always wanted to be brought back yo their basic human existence. Paul tried that by becoming The Prophet, Leto was brought back to that idea by Hwi Noree. Leto knew what his choice for the Golden Path would mean to him and it took 3500 years for the other forces of the universe to find out how to break him

This is the first time I have heard of this character, and it would seem that she was a representation of a path that Leto could have been while on the Golden Path, had he not immediately committed so hard to the processes of ridding humanity of its self-destructive nature's. She is also a representation of what made humanity worth saving, and to prove that no matter how much of a monster someone presents themselves to being, if they hold no love for others, be they specific or in general, they would be unworthy of calling themselves humanity's savior.

Hwi felt more like an object to me than a character, and while Leto described his attraction to her, I'd always thought it was Duncan's attraction that moved the story along. I was wrong though, Elaine has got to the heart of it I think: Leto knew what had to be done, and Hwi was indeed a temptation not to see it through, but more strongly a reminder of what had to happen and why. Siona needed to exist (and how many more bloodlines that could produce a Siona at any moment?) and his rule had to be terrible enough and just long enough to leave an indelible stain on people's memory: Never again allow any sort of centralized control of humanity, and never again can "humanity" as a whole be known. That is all, then Leto's sacrifice would be complete.

All of her being was a catalyst to Leto as a weapon against his Golden Path but unlike a normal catalyst her interaction also provoked a combining that was not intended by Leto's enemies creating unintended consequences.

The Llaxieu were very clever when they created Hwi. They figured that if someone of Malky's calibre can gain the foundness of the God emporer. Then a woman would again his heart and mind. Just like the Bene Gesserits who plan was to create a human messiah who they can control. The Llexieu figured that they can create a proxy who they can control. If Hwi was successful in swaying Leto II; he wouldn't realize that he has been usurped until it's too late.

Hwi Noree. The line from Helen of Troy comes to mind. "A face that launched a thousand ships." In a way, her role in the story is quite insulting. She fulfilled her destiny to the letter. She's also written as something of a flake. Herbert had a chance to redeem her, and chose not to. She dies at the moment of the completion of her mission. This book in the series was difficult to take in. Few of the characters show redeeming qualities. Duncan is uncharacteristically confused throughout. Leto is a preachy know-it-all who surrounds himself with incompetent goons. Moneo is typical of the breed. Absolutely nothing he suggests is taken seriously (so why have him around?) The terrorists trying to bring Leto down are feckless and easily dealt with. The Fish Speakers are mindless cannon fodder. I forget her name, but the one assigned to infiltrate Duncan's trust is transparently Leto's girl for all to see. Leto never misses a chance to tell someone how wrong they are. Even when Hwi exposes the trap she represents, he tells her how wrong she is. These are not the compelling characters we've been accustomed to. The only reason Leto lasted so long is he surrounded himself with people too oblivious to notice his weakness to water. He holds everyone in contempt because he's brought lasting peace, and they have the nerve to bitch about it. His subjects loathe him because he won't stop interfering with their daily lives. Furthermore, he makes no effort to improve the society he inherited. The Scattering is the ultimate example of his failure to his disregarded subjects. In Heretics, Duncan finally returns to his own agency, but why reduce this focal character to this low point? Why is this highly intelligent Leto such a clod at the levers of power? Why kill off Hwi Noree when she could have grown her own legend? Herbert likes to talk a feminist line, but he revels in abusing his female characters. Irulan, Hwi Noree, Chani, and even Jessica passively drop away when their part is played.

Nerd Cookies I LIKE YOU. However Your light skinned representation of Hwi Noree is inaccurate. Both Noree and her uncle Malki were described as "dark skinned". "The God Emperor of Dune is my most favorite book of the series. I fell in love with it at 16 in the 1970's, believing if it ever gets made into a movie there would be Black Actors in those roles.
