I moved to SE Asia three years ago. It’s almost like my body went through this processed food withdrawal. Once over, I crave non-processed food. My diet consists of fresh fish, pork (not mass raised and shot up with chemicals), chicken (same as pork), rice and garden grown veggies and fruits. I’m 54 and have lost 30lbs by diet alone. I’m now working out again and feel great. Oh yeah…I do have some alcohol too 😅

If only 0.5 grams of maltodextrin is added to the food, then since it is such a low quantity the glycemic index doesn't matter at all. The rise in blood sugar level (glycemic load) due to just point 0.5 grams of Maltodextrin will be negligible.

Sharing Dr Berg notes: Today, we’re going to talk about the carbohydrate that’s more dangerous than sugar: maltodextrin. Of all the ultra-processed food ingredients, I consider this one the worst. Maltodextrin is GMO, refined, and highly processed. It can lead to belly fat, diabetes, and gut inflammation, yet it’s considered safe. Even though maltodextrin is not a sugar and it’s not sweet, it behaves like sugar in the body. It’s also higher than sugar on the glycemic index. Maltodextrin is an ingredient in many different products, from chips to seasonings, supplements, and infant formulas. It’s even in certain drinks like light beer, energy drinks, and sports drinks. Because it’s not classified as a sugar, maltodextrin can also be added to sugar-free products even though it behaves like a sugar. Maltodextrin is a filler ingredient, and there are loopholes that companies can use to legally add it to their products. Other names for maltodextrin are dextrin, modified food starch, glucose syrup, corn starch, food starch, and corn syrup. It’s crucial to start reading the ingredients in your products to avoid dangerous ingredients like maltodextrin. Thank you Dr Berg!!👍

It is seriously hard to find a proper diet without spending hours researching every food that I consume. I gave up sugar a decade ago and then flour... now I find out that most of the sugar-free foods and drinks that I've been consuming have maltodextrin which is even worse. I freakin' give up! I've been eating mostly meat and less than 80 carbs a day for the past 10 months, which has helped me to lose 40+ pounds, but lately, I've gained back about 10 lbs. I have cheated with a few taboo foods, in the spirit of the holidays. Then I'll resume my commitment to healthy eating again. But thanks for the info. The US food industry is killing us. One of my past coworkers worked overseas. He was in South America for about 3 years. He shopped at small farmers' markets and ate fresh foods. He reported feeling so good but didn't connect it to diet until he returned to the US. After returning, he was sick. His digestive system was messed up. He thought it was something he caught while out of the country. He finally went to an internal specialist, and they explained that while out of the country and not eating process food, his body went through a cleanse. All the toxins and inflammations were gone. Thank you for educating us.

I think my parents used maltodextrine as a sweetener in my brothers baby formula back in the 50’s. I think they were told to do that and he got very plump as a baby and he has always been heavy. I have a feeling that was not the right thing to do. My mom should have breastfed her children but she was convinced by her mother that it was disgusting. She convinced me to bottle feed formula to my first born who struggles with weight and I breastfed my next child and he was filled out well as a baby but not fat and he was healthy while I was feeding him but when I weaned him at a year he started getting sick with every virus and cold that came along. He has always been normal body weight. I know now that the formula was a bad idea. But breastfeeding does take a lot of time. Many moms can’t do it but putting sweeteners in the formulas was very bad.

Maltodextrin almost killed me. I thought i was super healthy, because i was excersising 4 times a week, eating healthy, but i was also drinking a lot of recovery drinks that were half malto and half whey protein. Did this for years and then got a blood clot in lungs, that almost killed me. I was 30. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that an excess of maltodextrin can cause blood clots. In fact, some studies have shown that maltodextrin may actually help to prevent blood clots! Maltodextrine used whilst doing sports is usually the first ingredient burned by the body. ; it won’t sit there around. In any case, I t’s wrong to continuously use supplements (with or without maldodextrine) during every sports session! Maltodextrine does destroy your teeth though! If you train 4 times per week, you should use supplements maybe once per week, during the toughest session. Drink water!

And the “malto”in maltodextrin, is a wheat byproduct so if you are gluten sensitive, watch out. With all the help from Dr. Berg on cutting out lots of foods, I reached a plateau and when I started reading into gluten, because I cannot handle the stuff, I realized maltodextrin along with other glutens were in some of my supplements. Oh wow, this was so informative. I see maltodextrin is in so many foods. I don’t even bother reading labels as much as I used to anymore. Dressings, soups, smoothies, bread, etc - they are all easy to make myself and there’s just no real reason to buy this processed garbage out of a box or a can.

I used to work temporarily for a company that produced modified food starch out of potato starch, which they collect from the garbage water they get from washing potatoes at a potato plant I also worked for. It is insane. It is in literally everything. If you aren't cooking just fresh raw ingredients at home, good luck avoiding it because it is used as a preservative as well. They bleach tf out of it and then strain it over super high heat to remove all the other poison. I didn't stay long enough to observe the entire process but it is maddening that we allow this to exist. The amount of protection you have to wear to produce something they feed the masses is crazy. Ever wonder why everyone has cancer? I don't anymore.

I have been through 15 years of doctors (VA) telling me they cannot tell me why I am in so much pain and not once was I ever asked about what I eat, nutrition was never discussed, then through my own research I found the AIP, keto, and paleo diets, all of which I have tried. I have dropped 30 lbs, kept it off, and eat no processed foods. I am still in pain because they let the autoimmune diseases ravage my body for so many years that I am beyond repair, but I am here to tell anyone that will listen to stop eating processed foods, be aware of what are in the foods you do eat, ferment your own foods and stay active, mentally and physically. Most important, is to love Jesus and know this life is only a very short moment in the eternity that is everyones for simply accepting the Lord as your savior, appreciate the sacrifice he made for us, and reconcile your sins so that you may be in Gods grace, and look forward to the eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Merry Christmas one and all, and start the New Year off right by changing your life as we all know we need to do.

Malto can be a filler but when I was in the supplement industry, it was primarily used as a flow agent for the manufacturing process. Think flour vs sugar. Flour will not flow smoothly down a chute without help but sugar will. Maltodextrin will make a sticky, clumpy product flow like water, avoiding the very expensive process of granulation before blending. Anything that is made in a factory probably has it. I think it also helps with compression but I could be wrong on that.

I went from healthy to deathly ill and now debilitated.

try fasting. I had similar issues took me 3-4 years but Im better than before. Fasting was the main thing that helped ( not intermittent long ones)

@@thegalhorowitz I tried it for one week. I did the 16:8 one. Starting 8PM no more food then the next meal is 12PM the next day. On the 8 hours window time I only eat plant-based diet, and the results? I had more energy, less cravings, and feel good. The body adapts effectively. I haven’t continued the fasting but so far I am very vigilant on what I eat. It is even contagious, my mother is cooking vegetables every lunch and fruits as our dessert. ♥️🙏

Dr. Berg, thank you for your dedication in spite of the suppression campaign. I love your content. The algorithm worked in my favor and I stumbled on one of your videos the other day and have been bingeing ever since. Question: Are you familiar with the work of Dr. Ray Peat? I'm not that well-informed myself but I know a little from what I've encountered via social media, and I've noticed some overlap in your advice but also some divergence e.g. he's much more pro-sugars and anti-fatty fish. I'm curious to know what you think of Dr. Peat and his diet; its merits and demerits.
