I choke up a little every time I hear this magnificent voice. We lost her far, far too soon. RIP, Karen Carpenter.

Songwriter Paul Williams got the idea of this song when he asked his mother what she was doing one day. “Just talking to myself and feeling old” she said. Williams stated many times that there was no one with a voice like Karen Carpenter.
@amb27455 жыл бұрын
Paul Williams was also responsible for writing one of the Carpenters' signature songs: We've Only Just Begun. This song was written for a bank commercial by Paul when Richard Carpenter picked up on the song and asked about it. From there, it became the song that launched a thousand marriages in the 1970's.

The Carpenters and Karen Carpenter- what can I say about Karen Carpenter. One of the most phenomenal voices and the greatest voice I ever heard in my life belonged to Karen Carpenter. No one else felt every note she sang and you always felt like she was singing to you and you alone. She not only touched your heart so deeply with her voice, but your soul. Every time I hear Karen sing I get chills down my spine. In my opinion, the greatest voice the world will ever hear is Karen Carpenter. The day the world lost her was so tragic on so many levels. A brilliant singer, a incredible drummer, and from what I have read a delightful person, lost so young at 32 years old. I am sure Karen is the only one who could even teach the Angels how to sing.

Hi Joe. It was Hal Blaine that played drums on this track. Hal did most of the studio work for The Carpenters. The angel Karen mostly played live at gigs.

I always love to hear my dear friend Hal Blaine who passed a couple of years ago ... when he plays his drums on a record, because he always said that before he recorded the song, he first wanted to know the story of the song so that he can somehow play the feeling of the song and match the different moods in the song.

These songs, though sad were meant to be enjoyed by us. I would be a teenager when this song was released but had no conception that decades on, I would be listening to this (and many others) watching younger people like yourselves becoming absorbed. I am always ready for more nostalgia!

Hey guys, subscriber request: "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" by Carly Simon. Emotionally caustic song about marriage and relationships and the feeling of ennui set in the changing work and family structure of the 60's and 70's. Very moving.
