Ohyeah, wicked good timing! Fortunately we're a lot better these days at working out the causes of new plagues and getting to vaccines, etc., for them, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded that if we don't apply what we now *know* we can do to keep from spreading 'em, the results can quickly become overwhelming... Currently working from home in hopes of flattening the curve here in Canada, and figuring on plenty of handwashing in all our futures! (Eh, well, probably also means circling back around to the start of your Witcher 3 playthrough, in search of additional distraction.) Actually, I hate to think of how Ciri would feel about ever finding out her unintentional transport of that flea turned out..that'd be brutal. Never mind any of the surviving characters affected ever realizing.

I remember watching Shani tending to those plague victims. As I did I realized: "Damn. She works hard, genuinely cares for those around her, and puts herself on the line for the common good." Needless to say, Triss lost the battle for Geralt's heart. Badly I might add.

One of the problems with people who survive the plague living longer lives is that the statistics on average lifespan would be impacted by those who did pass as a result of the disease. The same goes for the Roman Empire as those who made it through their time in the legion would usually survive much longer than the average not because they were simply genetic beasts but because of the sheer mortality rate in the many wars of Rome

Doge 1.Yes but then the information cesses to be true. People didn’t live longer lives on average because they survived the plague and their descendants wouldn’t start to for a while. Because of the staggering ability bubonic plague had to kill it actually made you less likely to survive even if it wasn’t what did you in because of the food shortages it caused. 2. It isn’t that surviving a war makes you live longer it’s that so many young men died during their decade+ in the legion that the entire average was brought down by decades, thus making it look like this was true across almost all demographics. Surviving plague only makes you live longer when compared to your neighbour who didn’t the same way that surviving a war only makes you live longer than those who didn’t.

Doge the lifespan did not on average increase after the plague and as it’s a several year long thing rather than a single instance plague statistics end up included. If your information includes the people who died from the plague, simply removing them and keeping the same stats is sloppy work. I can’t say which stats George is using and I by no means think he’s trying to misinform anyone but a lot of sources of that claim place the plague in the « before » section of their statistics and that does a hell of a lot to reduce the overall life expectancy. The plague can easily be argued as a source of most of the growth Europe has experienced since then but it improved people’s lives generations later, it didn’t make them longer short term

Super interesting video this week, I always enjoy them but with what is happening currently very timely. I think if Geralt, Yen and the rest knew that Ciri was the person the start the plague they’d totally understand that it would be the last thing she meant to do and wouldn’t blame her at all. The general population, would blame her because just like with the current Coronavirus people want/need to blame someone for everything nowadays. But as for Ciri herself, if she knew, I’m not sure she could live with herself, even though she didn’t do it on purpose at all, she even removed a lot of her clothing trying to prevent it.

The Plague exists in the games and it's origins isn't something different they just don't cover it because there's literally no reason to. I think the people don't/wouldn't even really care given that I don't know there's these wars going on that kill even more people and they know who to blame for that. The worst case scenario is they find out it was a "witch" who caused it so there's going to be more witch hunts and pogroms that have already been happening constantly anyways so nothing much will change.

Hell what we see of gravediggers and corpse collectors they don't care whether you died from war or elves or beasts or disease they throw you in the same place. I can guarantee whatever the numbers are they're off by a good margin.

Definitely think the research on survivability was on more modern out breaks of bubonic plague because back then it was known it was a symptoms start in the morning and your dead by evening, unless were talking maybe from point zero of infection ie contact to day of death cause I cant remember incubation period for it. Diseases with a long incubation time are the worst.

Pneumonic Plague is also spread via airborne, coughing is spread via droplets meaning usually closer to 6 feet. One of the reasons the series plagues killed so many in the 1300s is thought to be all 3 forms of plague were going around thus making transmission incredibly easily

thing about the plague is it happened multiple different times, which is where a lot of the mix ups come from. as for the number that died, the number tends to be skewed due to population increases, hence the wide ratio.

Yeah when at the end of that chapter when I read that Dandelion buried little eye in the woods with her lute, it hit me in the feels. I thought hey hey!, a new love interest for Geralt but alas, they never even met again. Poor Dandelion, he has seen alot of pain in the world and always worked it out through song. The thing is ... philosophically speaking we cannot say for sure that It couldn't be possible that infinite parallel universes exist. So every fantasy world that ever was created could exist in a parallel reality. This means, that the strange story about ciris inter-reality journey could be true... we cannot objectively say I couldn't be true though I don't believe it ^^

@@flamesofchaos13 Well that is the intruiging paradoxon behind it. Technicly speaking we all just see our perspective on the world so nobody can say for certain that something is real. Just technicaly speaking. This means, that realitiy is for every one of us different. It's like a diamond. Just can look at it from infinite angles and you will everytime see another reflection in it's many sides and lineages. Our subjective perspectives are nothing more than reflections of reality. As plato showed it in his cave-parabola, we only see shadows of what's real. Or as the apostle paul decribes it (in regards to the ability of the human being to find out divine truth) it's like looking into a blind mirror.

That was such a fascinating part of the books which I wish was explored a bit more. And based on the book, I'm convinced Ciri started it. Albeit unwittingly. EDIT: btw, 'Catriona' is pronounced 'Kah-Tree-Nuh'. And the Bubonic plague still exists even today. It kills around 300 people a year in the US.

you know, I watched the show, a full playthrough of the witcher 3, and I have honestly struggling to like Ciri as a character. In fact, my dislike for her is so strong that I'm learly of reading the books. maybe it's due to how they stretched out her story in the show. maybe it's due to the fact that in order to keep her alive (which is a priorty for many gamers) you basically have to kowtow to her every whim. it could be either of those. or it's because I genuinely don't like her.

You can disagree with her on two of the five major choices. If you do three then she doesn't come back...She's not dead she just never returned to the Witcher world seeing as the only people there she cares for don't care what she wants in life. Actually might be the best ending for her in comparison to being a puppet of Nilfgaard or being an unhappy "Witcher" risking her life for people that don't deserve it.
