Steve kept his cool! This dog is high octane. I’ve got an 8 week old Aussie and this is EXACTLY what I needed. It’s very reassuring to know that dogs learn in 1 second, and that we don’t need to be aggressive or loud in order to get the point across; the house line is indeed a beautiful tool!

I'm so glad to see that my puppy is not the only puppy doing this lol although I knew that already, it's great to see it ! The biting the leash, jumping on me, biting my hands, and my pants legs. It's great to see this and thank you for the suggestion. I have an 11 week old maltipoo and I'm definitely going to try this, using the line to stop the things I don't like and refocusing on something I do. I'm hoping for a great outcome lol fingers crossed🤞🏽 wish me luck

I always call this puppy line at home our umbilical cord. In German it's a little shorter though. 😊 I've been doing this from my second puppy onwards. Then I had a couple of small children and had to figure out how to supervise kids and puppy to keep all of them safe.

Regarding the treats, the pup is being fed three times a day, always looking for more to eat. How many treats are okay, how much is too much. Do you have any guidelines based on weight? Excellent presentation, Best of Show, and I've watched a handful this past week.

I have the same problem with my 12-week-old puppy. I've tried this and my GSD will get aggressive with the correction. I've been bitten so many times. I bought a muzzle that is coming in the mail in a day or two. This will help, my main reason for the muzzle is she keeps picking up rocks and trying to eat them, also trash and leaves and plants. I hear the vet bills are astronomical to remove the stones from there digestive system. I'm at my wits end right now.

Thank you for your stellar channel! Wondering if you could do a whole video about redirecting puppy from being distracted/ entranced by house line. I've used house lines with all my older/ foster dogs and they are the greatest tool, but I can't seem to convince my puppy (after 3 weeks of daily work together) that her house line is not the most high value thing in her universe. I've scoured all your videos to make sure I'm following all suggestions but still struggling with this and it prevents us from getting into other "success" interactions. Again, all the best and many thanks!

I just have to say I do use a line with my four-month-old GSD, mind you this is my fourth GSD. I have had labradors, yorkies and never had a problem crate training. But this four-month-old GSD puppy is an absolute nightmare on crate training. Every time he goes in his crate he screams like an ape continually non stop. He is very intelligent super smart also he is very stubborn. I have watched every video on crate training, to no avail. At this point I do not know what to do but get a good set of ear plugs. And going bald pulling my hair out

Hi Cynthia don't give up crate training is important and it has saved me ! I can go to Uni and or do chores in the house and I know that my puppy is save and cozy in her crate sleeping....As you are saying you have tried everything I assume (exersize and train him before you put him in, feeding his meels in the crate, putting him in and closing the dore and giving him treats extend the period wich he is in there little by little ) My puppy used to bark and cry as soon as I closed the dore . What has worked for me in the end was I put her in for an hour at a time every 4 hours .... so I started with half hour walk and half hour feeding and training 3 hours free and 1 hour in the crate repeat this about 2 more times and then he will hopefully be used to the crate and sleep in it through the night ! Also I got a plastic crate put it in a room and covered it, losed the dore and left .... she cryied the first time for 15 minutes and then never again . Its important that you dont come back and open the dore when he is barking only let him out when he is completely relaxed and quiet! I hope this hepls, good luck to you and your puppy

I have 10 week old Aussie that is that high energy we call him psycho dog - that house line has made all the difference - he has learned sit & down and easily learned no jumping and biting because we have so much more control. I have been able lead him quickly outside when he needs to go. He is already going to the door. Thank you so much for this video. Life is so much calmer and less chaotic. It is also easy to back up and have him come to me when he is on a line all time.

I know this video is similar to a lot of others but, for some reason, makes a lot more sense? I fully understand the reasoning behind having a house line attached all the time but others in my household don’t seem to see it and simply see it as limiting the puppy’s environment, which of course, you are! I don’t really know how to sell it?

Thanks for this video. I have been watching your training videos for much of the past year and finally got my 8 week old standard Labradoodle a month ago. She has never NOT had a house line on thanks to you guys. But now that she is just over 3 months old and has doubled her weight, she is so strong. When I let her out of her ex pen or crate to start integrating her into the house more, she just pulls and wants to check everything out. We have gone thru some of the house repeatedly so it's not new territory. She will soon be too large for the ex pen to contain her and I need to get her more calm when out of it, but it is not working. She gets a lot of good exercise in the yard twice a day and often a little more on a 3rd occasion and many potty outings. Also lots of training and knew many things within several days of coming home. She has an excellent sit/wait at the back door, for meals and to come out of crate and pen. But that self control goes out the window when out in some of the house. I just need her to slow down. Any suggestions? Thanks.

For sure I will be taking her for walks or at least training walks as soon as I can. She sure wants to get beyond the yard and see things. I had a little glimmer of hope yesterday when she was very tired and laid on the floor beside my computer with me for about an hour and slept. We managed to get the collar on after the 1st week and I'm doing collar training with her everyday to get her used to me touching her neck and getting her used to a tug on the collar and not freaking out, we are using a houseline but... when she creates tension on the line she bucks like wild.. I saw ur puppy in the video doing it a little but nowhere near as much as my pup does, what do I do? I don't want her to be traumatised by the experience of having a leash, shes fine when the house line is loose I'm not letting her chew it but what do I do when she bucks... in those moments its diffuclt to lure her with food

Question regarding the collar settle/house line. I have a very sweet mini aussie shepherd puppy who is 14 weeks. She is definitely an alpha female and is super confident with a huge competitive drive. We've found that when we did the collar settle with a small interuption, she responded at first but quickly started fighting it. She seems to take it as a challenge and it just ups the ante for her. Even with a proper hold on her collar she will go into a full deathroll to get your arm in front of her face so she can "win" or will really fight and chew the line if you use it too much. You can distract her from it with play but she seems to find it very frustrating and makes more poor choices with it on. Also, we live in Canada and so are doing paper training for the cold winter since our puppy just holds it when we go outside. The houseline is a bit of a problem for paper training since they can pee on it and drag it behind them. Any recommendations?
@jenbingham0914
@jenbingham0914 2 жыл бұрын
Just take your puppy outside. If you take them out, stay with them, make sure they go and bring them right back in the cold is not an issue. I house broke my mastiff/coonhound mix in the middle of January in Michigan. Time spent outside housebreaking is just fine for them. My opinion is that paper training just confuses them, and is a waste of time taking much longer to housebreak onto paper then switch it to outside. They should not be spending time outside playing until they are house broke anyway so the short periods outside to potty is not going to hurt a thing. Especially since that breed is so intelligent, they will pick up on it very quickly.

When/how do you suggest fading the line?
@McCannDogs
@McCannDogs 2 жыл бұрын
Fading as in weaning away from using the line? You will start to do that when you cant remember the last time you needed to use it. Once your verbal commands are strong enough and there is 100% success there 100% of the time, you can start weaning the puppy off of it at that point. If they need to go back on it after a bit too much freedom, you can always go back. Happy Training! ~ Dan

I use a 15 cm long house line :) works wonders - i actually call it an anti conflict line.. I am a big fan - but i felt bad for the pup for a sec.. How do you explain that it is okay to step on the line if the puppy i moving? No sound to try to break the wandering off - giving it a chance to not get a pop by the neck.. I am super careful with my dogs neck - espec. when they are a little as this..Still groing and developing and very prone to get injuries because of it is so soft. It was done reserach in Scandinavia by Anders Hallgren and a group of vets ( you can get the research results in several languages on Ebay, amazon etc for just a few dollars ) .. It showed that 84% of reactive dogs had neck and back injuries that no one knew about. something to consider maybe ??

Great video, but should a puppy be put in a crate with a collar on??? Isn't this dangerous?

Is it too late to implement the house line on a 5 month Samoyed? Wish I knew this information earlier!

No it’s never too late. It’s just about your consistency, repetition and follow through. My 4 month Rottweiler puppy eventually began doing all of these things but is improving. You really have to address it and spend a lot of time with your dog: bonding, training, supervising. Your dog needs a lot of positive reinforcement so keep treats on you and reward when he’s doing good

I’m getting a puppy this Sat I’ve been watching your videos for two days now they make so much sense. I do have a question I’m getting a German shepherd/Poodle (Shepadoodle) he will be 8weeks what size kennel will be best? I did purchase a larger crate thinking I would use it but it will encourage him to use the 🚽 in it. Please Help😅

It would be great to see the same demonstration but with a 50 lb 7 month old puppy who s forcefully biting and jumping. You always use tiny puppies who are easy to control.

YES!!! I have a 40lb stubborn Bullmastiff pup. He digs his heels into the ground when I am trying to get him to move ahead with me or simply walk down the street. While some have dog pulling issues my pup is doing the opposite. He won’t move forward. Yes he will walk forward if I lure him with food, someone just don’t have treats on hand. Please use large/Giant sized breeds once in awhile to show variety in pup strength and personality. Saint Bernard, Bernese Mountain Dog, Leonburger

I named my Wheaton Terrier Poppy for the same bouncy behavior. I use the line as well. I am also using a dish towel to put in her mouth so she won’t nip me. She can whip her mouth around and nip me, even with me holding her collar.😩

I adopted him from a dog shelter when he was 2 months and a half. The person on charged told me that he and his little brother, that now is with another family, arrived to that shelter when they were very little (they both are children of stray dogs) and at the shelter they were always free running in the backyard with other dogs. Now my puppy is a puppy like behavior (like in this video) when he is without collar. The moment I put his collar on, not even the house line, all his energy goes out. Is this normal?

Have to dislike videos like this because while they talk about using a house lease they never give you tips on what to do when the dog does nothing but destroy the lease. I've watched a bunch of your videos now that brag about the inside lease & not one tells you how to stop your dog from destroying it. I've gone through 3 leases in a month this method doesn't work with terriers.

When you cut it, make sure it's short enough where they can't chew it, but long enough to be able to grab it. Typically about 3-6 inches
