I haven't had regular coffee in over 10 years. I remember when I quit, I had withdrawal symptoms the first few days and around the 3rd day I got a nose bleed. After 5-7 days I felt better than ever before. I no longer got random headaches throughout the day, no longer woke up feeling dizzy, and my energy was evenly balanced throughout the day.. no significant highs or lows. My skin also started looking better and teeth got whiter. My joints felt more lubricated. Now I wake up already feeling energetic and don't need a jolt from coffee. Not being a slave to coffee is probably the best thing I've done for myself aside from never smoking. Occasionally, on a cold or rainy morning, I'll make some decaf coffee. It felt like my body chemistry was very imbalanced and these symptoms would very often manifest at random times of day, and all I could do was put my head down and bear through it and wait for it to subside. It was so bad I was worried I had developed a serious irreversible medical condition. Over time I scaled my coffee consumption back gradually and now I drink about an hour after I wake but not before I drink at least a full glass of water, staying hydrated through the day. At least 7-8 hours of sleep are vital. Any deviation from those habits and my symptoms rear their head again as if to say, _"Say hello to your little friend!"_ The video was a good reminder of keeping it under control. Thanks Doc!

Good advice. You confirm much of what I’ve been hearing about coffee, and added some new things, like the function of the adrenal glands, and the fact that coffee is a diuretic and the first thing you drink should be water. If you had one cup of coffee per day, the most optimal time to have it is probably around 2:00 in the afternoon-you’ve had lunch, and you kind of slow down because now your natural hormones are at a low level. Your system could actually use a boost at that time. Anyhow, thanks!

Dehydration is one thing, Cortisol effect is another. so... while the amount of water in the average cup of coffee probably, cancels out the effect of the dehydration caused by the caffeine the Cortisol effect can be a roller coaster of responses to events. If it hits right I am happy :) if it hits me wrong I can become a warrior. So I really appreciate my new Cortisol knowledge gained from this video and the advice to delay my morning coffee for less of a Cortisol effect. Thank You!!
@curiouscat33842 жыл бұрын
But - the water in your coffee just goes right through because of its diuretic effect so the dehydration is not resolved until consuming even more water.

Tolerance grows to the cortisol increase, so if you're a chronic coffee drinker, you don't have to worry.
@americanlostinvietnam37212 жыл бұрын
for every one cup of coffee, you have to drink 3 cups of water just to equalize. 2 cups of coffee = 6 cups of water. Most people don't drink that in an entire day. Coffee dehydration is a real problem
@guyinpajamapants68922 жыл бұрын
@@americanlostinvietnam3721 Is that true? I always wondered what the loss was. Lol!
@americanlostinvietnam37212 жыл бұрын
@@guyinpajamapants6892 it is true. CF drinkers are usually chronically dehydrated which taxes the kidneys and liver and will cause dark circles under the eyes. Make sure you compensate cf with enough water with a little honey and sea salt.

I’ve been thinking about this lately! I realized that I drink my coffee and not any water!! I drink the coffee throughout the day and just take it with me all day. I don’t take water with me so when I’m thirsty I just drink my coffee. I realized that if I had water I would definitely be drinking more of that. So now I will bring a bottle of water with me as well as my coffee. Thanks Doc!!

More great advice, thanks Dr Mandell. For a number of years I have been keeping a glass of distilled water with a pinch of Himalayan salt by bedside ,sipping if I awaken, especially if I get slight headache, finishing off when I get up. Only drink one coffee mid morning, (a couple of hours after the water).Think it is important to drink only Organic coffee not GMO (as advised by Dr Berg ).

@@medicinalpurposes4860 Yep, I was waiting for him to suggest what to drink before having a cup of coffee. Plain water, perhaps?? Some info seemed missing??
@chayastaub-krell66012 жыл бұрын
Water would be the best. When you wake up, you've lost a liter of water and are dehydrated. Water is the best, healthiest re-hydrator. What I kept waiting for him to say how long we should wait before we have the first cup of coffee. I drink water while I wait for my coffee because I am so thirsty when I wake up. For me, that's about an hour. I usually start the coffee about 20ish minutes after I wake up and I use a stovetop percolator which takes longer than a regular drip machine (but, it is sooo worth it!!).

As always, great tips and advice Doc! 👌🏼😎 Nowadays I usually start the day with a couple (2-3) glasses of water, ionized alkaline/Kangen water that is, first before I drink or eat anything at all. During the week I don't even eat or drink coffee the first 5 to 8 hours upon waking up, just the water. Never thought I would be able to do that tbh but apparently you get used to it. Feel(s) so much better!

How much water is in the 2 glasses overall? I'm planning to switch to having a 500ml cup of water in the mornings. I tried this idea this morning and I feel in many ways it did help. I don't know when is a good time to have the first coffee drink however. I have one when I'm at work about 90minutes after getting out of bed. I might ditch the coffee I have before setting out to work and just have 1 at work and 1 when I arrive home. The little health tweaks that come with age!

I've noticed so many benefits since giving up coffee, I'm even training harder in the gym and I'm able to recover quicker between sets. This is strange to me because it seems coffee was causing me anxiety and effecting me in a negative way during my training. I'm not knocking anyone for drinking it, this is just my own personal experience. Oh the withdrawal symptoms were crazy I was sick as a dog the first week I give up coffee, but once I got over that i was firing on all cylinders.
