In Wikipedia, it states that Istanbul has a greek origin meaning "in the city" or "to the city". When Mehmed II conquered Constantinople in 1453, the turks were already using the phrase Istanbul whereas all over Europe, the city name Constantinople remained being used. So Constantinople & Istanbul were being used interchangeably since the Ottoman turks. The official name of Istanbul was established in 1920 under Attaturk & like the sheikh said, Constantinople was outlawed :)

Constantinople was a Greek city. When Ottomans conquered Constantinople used to ask the Greek travellers:''where r u going?'' and the Greeks answered: ''is tin Poli'' which means toward Poli(short form of Constantinople-ConstantinouPoli in Greek language). Istanbul is the paraphrase of the Greek IstinPoli. Ottomans did the same with other Greek cities of Asia Minor such as Ismir for Smirni, Samsun for Samsounta, Trabson for Trapezounta etc. This is the truth.

i am simply saying that 'Istanbul" is an audio mis-transliteration passed down the years to the non-Greek speaking populations of the phrase "εις την/ταν Πόλη" used by the Greek speaking population in the eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium). "Η "Πόλη" i.e "The City" in those days only referred to Constantinople by the citizens of the empire, not Medina. If the conquerers later used it for Medina too is something I do not know. cheers

My homeland is in borders between Syria and Turkey. I do have ground on my name, inherited from my grandfather. However, I was born in urban/modern country with secularist lifestyles. If I leave Europe for hijrra, I will leave my family with me. I do have a great advantage being only 23 years old and not being married yet. I am asking for Allah mercy for just a bit longer... This lecture has a specific context to debating prevailing Hadith, and to Islamic Eschatology. The role of the Dajjal in eschatology is obvious to you by now. The connections you would make between the Dajjal, the Akhirulzaman, and the conquest of Constantinople from all past lectures which are about this, would probably be right.

Crazylicious You made very good point. That name was Greek name and that is probably why that it was changed. This is Shelby's interpretation and it is not disrespect to messenger of Allah(SAW). STINPOLI in Greek is in the city so most likely is abbreviation of that. Attaturk was alot of things in addition of being the Father of Modern dayTurkey. He was Freemason (luciferian) and I guess you know what that means.

You want to know if it is Sahih. I believe the Sheikh would not directly mirror other's interpretations of Sufyani hadith, but would improve and expand upon them without replacing them. That is my best guess, best of luck to you.

Rum = Greek. In The Turkish Language when one says Rum it means Greek. Also The Constantine Family empire were the represesentation of teh Orthodox eastern Chr Empire. Unfortunately, that does not make constatin empire immune to be dealt with due to issues at the time. Sheiks Imran has some valid points but his criticism of Sultan Fatih Muhammad is unwise. The solution to the Muslim world is not to run away in isolation to remote Muslim Villages. It is the very isolation and non critical challenge to the secular ruling elite which has resulted in the mess that we all find ourselves in. The Ottoman sultanate did the Muslim proud, most of the time, Sheik Imran needs to revise the history on that period. The Ayah Sophia is a symbol of Ottoman Achivement.

The Sheik has a lot of criticism about the uprising in the Middle East, in relations to Libya, the Middle East but does not gives alternative solutions as to how those tyrants can be overcome. I just hope the alternative solution is not to run away to a remote Muslim village. It's a not a solutions that can be fulfilled by all; across the Muslim world and expect the problem to fix itself.

As a Christian who listens intently to all of the Sheikh's lectures, I do not believe the language or imagery of a 'broken cross' is going to build many bridges or allow much for this much needed alliance with 3rd Rome. If Isa is returning, and this is our Jesus, then why not allow the truth that we are brothers and both are building toward the same thing? Since the doctrinal dispute over 'Appearance of dying on Cross' also occurs WITHIN Christianity (Gnosticism etc), then what is the issue?
