My grandparents were farmers in west Texas. They grew cotton and corn. They grew many other vegetables for themselves as well. Grandpa would come in and wash up for supper. He'd ask "when was the corn picked?" Because it "wasn't fit to eat if it's been picked more than two hours before being cooked." Omg...he was right! ( Not going to lie, it's fit to eat.. however, nothing beats eating a vegetable just picked. Before the sugars change.. Nothing beats fresh corn, and home churned butter.. ❤️

Absolutely right. Corn is a little different today,we have lots of hybrids and super sweets. Just as important as cook time is harvesting at the correct time to get your corn at the top of its flavor profile. Proper storage until you process is another factor. I assume your corn used in the video today was bought or came from your freezer,since its early spring.

My "best" way is leave it in the husk, place in microwave for 3 mins. Cut off the large end , about 1 inch, then hold the small end and squeeze and the ear will slide out, leaving 99% of the silk behind. Works every time. If you like a little crunch, cook for 2 and 1/2 mins.

That’s pretty much how I do it! SOOOOOO easy to get the husk and silk off AFTER it’s cooked…. Like 100% easier than fighting with the tough green husk and the fussy silks. It’s like the silks just fall off…. I just let it cool for 2 minutes after removing from the grill and then don’t even need gloves, and it’s still very hot inside. Can do it the same way in husks for example if it’s raining out and you want to boil it inside… just add a minute or two of cooking time.
@carolchildofgod1467
@carolchildofgod1467 3 жыл бұрын
That’s how I do my corn when we BBQ. Only difference is, I soak it all in a sink full of clean cold water for like an hour first. Them husks & silks soak up that water which helps steam the corn first, then it’s nice & tender to start soaking up all that grill flavor! In the winter if I boil it, I add a little milk, sugar and salt to my water. Adds a little sweetness to it, because as everybody knows, you can’t get good sweet corn in the winter! So, ya gotta help it out a little. Just be careful! That milk may cause it to boil over so watch it close!

Yummy! That's how long I cook it too. I either boil it or wrap it in a damp pater towel and microwave cook it for 4 minutes. It is perfect. Sigh... now I want some corn!

I have to ask, what is with this hours thing? I have been cooking my corn just long enough to get it hot for decades. I don't bother with a timer....corn if very resilient. I put it on when I'm almost ready to serve the meal, and take them out when I don't have 3 things coming out of the oven, off the stove, ice in the pitcher, etc.

The only thing my Mama did different is she put the pan on the stove to get hot then we went to the garden to pick it and shuck it. The fresher the better. I sure love your videos💜

I put mine on a rack in my pressure cooker for one minute. Fast, easy, yummy. To butter it, we keep a stick of butter exclusively for corn on the cob and we just roll it over the butter.
