Man this is so good! ❤ Dr. Carl Trueman. This current crop of cultural Christianity is the harvest of how expressive individualism has infiltrated the church. Our faith is so disintegrated because we’ve evangelized an individualized or personalized Jesus for decades. A whole generation has discipled into believing it’s all about just them and Jesus.

It wasn’t “mostly” it was all before this social contagion and almost every single one had a traumatic experience and wanted to get rid of the area that was traumatized. That’s why now, children with Asperger’s and Autism are victims because they are socially awkward and easy prey. I can’t wait for God to stop the insanity. The UK’s clinics are closing down (they’re about ten years ahead of us) because the children they butchered under age are coming back and they’re ticked because they can’t have children, they’re sick, many have killed themselves because they didn’t Understand what they were doing & the doctors knew that and admitted on video but “at least we can make them happy in the moment”. Sick.

@@lifeinthe80s I have nothing but pity for you, Richard... Mainly bc you dont have Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior, but also (by all evidence you provide) your life is so empty & lonely that you have nothing better to do with your time than watch/listen to something you don't even believe exists. What a pathetically lonely & empty life. That's usually the case with ppl who dont know Jesus, but with you being so apparent/obvious about it-im compelled to send you my deepest empathy.

Creeds and confessions have absolutely 0 authority in biblical Christianity. It is basically the equivalent of what the Orthodox Jews did to the Torah: adding man's false ideas to the scriptures and elevating them to the same lvl of authority as the scriptures. You're amazed because you believe men over God. We're not weird for believing God over men. That is what honest seekers and followers of truth are supposed to do.

I believe vigilantly limiting a teen's time on social media can dial back a) exposure to radical ideas and behavior. AND limiting a teen's time on social media can FREE TIME for healthy interpersonal activities like sports, music, other learned skills with people. Other Activities offer a viable and productive excuse when that teen is confronted with peer pressure.

In regards to the political issue about the older democrats being conservative: think of a ratchet. Liberals/progressives push the ratchet. It goes way farther than people are comfortable with so theres pushback. However, the conservatives act as the pall (the part that stops it turning in the other direction). So the process all together goes: Progressive over reach 4 steps, conservatives push it back 2 steps and lock down the "new normal". Conservatives control what is considered "acceptable right wingism". So even though you started four steps back conservatives set the tone that anything farther than 2 steps back is "extreme and unacceptable" then you repeat the process over and over. That is how society gets to the way it is. You're always moving left but each successive generation thinks they "fixed" progressivism but they are still farther left than ever before.

As a political indy, I see both sides pushing back EQUALLY. And with every push they get closer to the edge of their side of the pendulum. So now there are a shocking amount of people hanging off the edges-if not fallen completely off any level of sanity. I find the both edges continuing to increase in insanity & population. On the political blue side we have stuff like the lgbtqrstia++(idk all the letters), drag queen story hr nonsense. On the red side we have Q-anon, Jewish space lazers, election denial, etc., On both sides we have a massive increase in replacing Jesus with someTHING or someONE else. Of course both sides deny it-espcly those who call themselves Christian. Mostly bc they can only see it on the other side. You know-"those ppl over there.." if not deny-atleast minimize it & add "But THOSE ppl are SO MUCH WORSE". It's a very diff pov to be politically indy. There arent many of us. It's like watching a food fight in an unsupervised lunchroom full of troubled 3rd graders. It's even more so "homeless" as a Christian. I don't follow a donkey nor an elephant. I follow a LAMB.

as a Christian. I've had a lot of nihilistic feelings and thinking for a long time, and it's worse because i'm Autistic. And since I'm autistic, the way my life has been. The way my life has been. For most of my short life. Has almost felt like a Jail And even when I had My job. I just always felt like my life was meaningless, and it was doing nothing that my life. He's just wasting away, achieving nothing, being nothing, and being stuck where I live. I often feel Julius, Caesar. Because he When he read about the conquest of alexander the great He cried Because everything he had done in life was nothing compared alexander and his short life Alexander did something to get himself remembered forever And caesar realized At that point in his life. He would be forgotten and never remembered. And from those feelings gave birth for Caesar's desire for conquest. And to be like alexander I have often Pleaded with God for years. Or just strictly told him I hate my life But I wish I could live in the past. Live a different life in be like that was great, conquerors and generals and warriors of the past. I'm a history nerd and I love conquest I could fit more into the past Then I would in the modern world I am not ignorant what I say because I'm a historynerd and I know how people lived I've I know more about history than people know about their own languages. I have just wanted a life that had more meaning and had more things for me to do And and not have a life that turns to dust I just know I could have done more if I was given a chance In a different Point in history I just know There were so many lives I could have lived. ( And please for everything holy Do don't say I need to accept Jesus into my heart or become born again. It gets so tiring Hearing that I know my salvation Thank you very much)

Interesting comment. There is much conquest to be had presently: if you think in terms of your own time management and your own goals. There are PLENTY of pursuits to master and PLENTY of things to desire (for good or everything else). Skills of any kind are developed over time - and provide greater refinement.

All those famous or rather infamous people you list that left a foot print on history, desired power and glory for themselves. In their wakes they left behind a lot of sorrow and cruelty behind. A very interesting biblical history past and future.

If they were never conquered by a room.I guarantee you.France would be a german speaking country Also, don't forget how corrupt the senate was. My husband and I are big fans of Rise and Triumph and actually led a semester(ish)-length Sunday school group on Strange New World. We would recommend some pre- and post-reading if you want to get a fuller picture of how expressive individualism developed as well as implications for how the thoughtful Christian should react: a good history tracing Platonism from its origination through the Enlightenment (where Trueman starts), followed by N. T. Wright's Surprised By Hope. That book is a pretty accessible summary of two of Wright's other books (~1600 pages condensed to ~200!), so make sure to have access to good biblical commentaries because he of necessity does "drive-by exegesis" as my husband puts it. 😜
