On this day in 1974 {June 8th} the Crusaders performed this song on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... Two months later on August 25th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #36 and spent 16 weeks in the Top 100... Renowned guitarist Larry Carlton was a one time member of the group...

The Guitarist is Barry Finnerty. Larry Carlton left the Crusaders after 1976. This video was done in 1982 shortly before the drummer Nesbert "Stix" Hooper left the group in 1983.

This was one of my faves. I met Mr. Felder in Pittsburgh backstage at the Stanley Theatre. He was so talented and very pleasant! Will be missed.

I got to see Joe sit in at a LARRY CARLTON CONCERT, in Manhattan way back around 1988 ?!?! He was certainly among the top 20 keyboard players of all time! And we met him afterwards out back at the theater door. Nice memories!!!

Love the original from the roxy.....but I love this snarling bass sound. So good. @pdbass . Max Bennett is obvs terrific, but wow this is a lovely take too.

@saxman68able Yeah, you're right - that is Barry Finnerty with his hair permed. This sounds really different from the version on "Scratch." Interesting that it's a Wayne Henderson composition and they're still playing it well after he had left the group. It really needs that trombone in the melody to make it what it was, more so than a lot of those songs.
