As cute as they are, this is what will happen if you tame flying squirrels...it's a nightmare!

LMAO!! you were cracking me up when you were talking about the knife and the cougar!! I came across your channel because my husband and I had our first encounter with a northern flying squirrel!! We had never seen one...at first I thought it was a baby squirrel. We had a bad storm that happened overnight and he was on our outside window screen in our sunroom...way up high...to keep out of the rain....but I thought it was this helpless little baby squirrel scared to death and I was crying telling my husband to save him before he falls and dies!! well little did I know that he was just waiting for the rain to let up and he scurried up and down the screen a few times....peed on the screen and then literally jumped off onto the ground....(glided, like an airplane landing on a runway) darted across the grass and then flew from one tree to another....it was the coolest and craziest thing I had ever seen!!! I was just looking up different videos to learn more about them and came across your video!! Thank you for sharing, I know they can be destructive little buggers but damn they are cute!!! Remember a squirrel is a rodent, cute as it may be. They will destroy an attic, insulation, chew trough wood. Get them out.

@@perrottarober do you have nothern flying squirrels by chance? I used to have one. I made a long comment a couple comments above yours. Id really love to get another one at some point, when i move into a bigger house, probably not for another 5 years though. My biggest fear is not being able to find one, since they arent sold in Canada due to needing a permit. It would really ease my mind to know its possible to find one in the future though. @@perrottarober lol, yeah I suppose I didn't mention I only leave it open when I'm up too. I occasionally forget to close it before bed. I think she prefers it closed when I'm not there...like a security thing. Good to hear about your babies! Thank you for replying!
@LittleRainGames4 жыл бұрын
Be very careful leaving it out of the cage. I do agree that its the right thing to do, and it would not be happy in a cage. I used to have one. A baby just showed up on my lawn one day, and i luckily walked by my slider before my cat got it, he was circling it about to "play" with it. Since she was a baby i took on a parental state. I miss her so much, had a very unfortunate accident... i didnt like keeping her in a cage too and i lost her over night. No not my cat, they became good friends who played alot. he was actually standing where her cage was just only a half an hour ago, looking in the closet where she used to sleep. She ended up falling in the toilet and drowning when i was sleeping. I made sure to close the lid everynight cause she had fallen in one time and i luckily had heard her splashing trying to get out. But then one night at maybe 5am my cat scratched at the door to get in my room and woke me up, i went to the bathroom in a very tired state and i guess i just forgot due to being so tired, and went back to bed, and this time i didnt hear it and wake up. She used to just run around my room all night, jumping on my face to try and wake me up to play. Unfortunatelty that would be the last night that happened. I was literally going to nail a board to the bottom of my door that next day, i used to just stuff clothing under it, but when i had opened the door it messed it up. If i could ever have another one again, id change to nocturnal hours any and every day, nothing more worth it, it was the most amazing experience ive ever had, she would always bring a smile to anyone she was around. Time was way too short with her. Anyways... got some cute videos on my one drive if anyone wants a laugh, maybe ill upload them to youtube on a different channel sometime in the future, but for now they are here. 1drv.ms/f/s!Alm-mVtY48fxgZg7r2UGb3rlgHbOMw And if anyone knows how i could get another one, i dont want a southern flying squirrel id appreciate some info. Im not ready to get another one, waiting to move into a bigger house, no set date. Its just my biggest fear is never being able to get another one, im from Canada and they dont sell them because you need a permit, and i dont really want a southern flying squirrel, ehich you can purchase from the states. I should mention, unless you work from home and can spend 24 hours a day with it, not a good idea to get one. These arent like guinea pigs who can stay long periods in a cage. They need constant attention. Oh and mine also never destroyed anything, but for some reason she thought i was her bathroom lol. Id be laying in bed, shed come from her closet and just pee on me, still worth it haha

I have a flying squirrel that got hurt from cutting down a tree. I have had it now for about a month . It's funny cause it will let me know when it needs foods it seems to love lemon lime Gatorade. I have well water and when I give it water it just turns the water thing over . Give it the Gatorade and it drinks the hell out of it . I live in indiana and they say you don't see them around here . Been told I need to set it loose but the other 2 that was with it took off and this 1 is still some what a bady and I really don't think it would make it if I set it free. I enjoy playing with it and my grandkids enjoy it so now it's like a family pet . The only 1 that is still somewhat afraid of it is my wife .

I used to breed and show fancy mice, and one night one of my bucks got out (it was my fault, I didn't realize I'd left the lid of his enclosure loose). Of course they were very friendly and he had no fear of me so climbing on me when he was done having fun and trying to climb back up to where his water bottle was seemed like the most natural course of action- just like these bold little stinkers, he figured the most logical path would be across my face at 2am, which is how his escape was both discovered and ended. XD He was just pleased to have had an outing and now be returned for a drink and his own nest to sleep, no big deal... rodents are very funny little buddies!

We have flying squirrels up at our cottage.....they come out after the red squirrels, chippy's and birds are done with the feeder.....it most provides us with 24 hours entertainment ....but I particularly love the flying squirrels, they have never destroyed our cottage, but we do have the entire envelope spray foamed and sealed. Mind you, they do like to have a drink from my automatic sprinklers for the hanging baskets......I'll be installing copper lines to replace the damage they caused.....but we all need to drink !!!!

You are alone in the bush. Have a rifle close by. At the very least a 410 gauge shotgun. You never know when you may have to defend yourself. A cougar, or a bear attacking you is enough justification to use a firearm in self defence. Look at it as just another piece of equipment that is required for your survival in the wilderness. I live in the woods, north of Algonquin Park in Ontario Canada. Near Mattawa. There are many predators in the area. I have never had to kill a bear or cougar in self defence...I have discharged my gun to scare them away though.

@Becoming Wild this is an old video but I hope you’re still reading the comments. I live in NW Georgia and the flying squirrels have taken over my attic. They crawl under my attic door at night and run through my house. My cats have killed 2 of them this week and I’ve been able to catch 3 and place them outside. Unfortunately I don’t know how to stop them from getting in the attic as I can’t find a hole. They are nesting in my Christmas wrapping paper that they tore up. Any ideas on how I can get them out safely? I’m worried they have diseases and my cats chase them and I’m don’t want my cats getting bit. Thank you in advance for any advice 💜

Cougar won't bother you, they behave much like domestic cats. I only carry knives when tracking (I do not hunt or guide cat hunts) Guns are useless once you're in close and they're not going to attack you head on unless it's a mother with cubs (and all you have to do is face her and back away, she's mostly bluffing... just keep backing up even if it's two miles... just keep going and she'll drop back when you're far enough away from the babies) On the flip side they're obsessed with humans. They love to watch us and commonly bed down near us simply because nothing else really comes close to us... and we're interesting. They also study us and our behaviors to better avoid us. They're very timid, and arguably one of the most intelligent animals on this planet... hoping to start documenting some of this behavior this year.
