hear me out: a Burghausen style map, but on point B a space ship crashes and you get some ranged weapons (like the cow mangler)

@@dot_trey Given that the main issue is zero ranged primaries for everyone except Sniper and Medic, a Pomson and Bison honestly wouldn't be terrible, especially with their multi-hit effect that could work wonders on crowded objectives.

The Cow Mangler would be absolutely busted and make the game mode unfun. The Crossbow and Huntsman at least are on frailer classes who do nothing else and need to be at medium range to hit anything. Give a Soldier the Cow Mangler and now you can have a regular Soldier loadout with a Rocket Launcher, Banner, and melee of choice. You could also easily make it so a Soldier can't even be killed since he can rocket jump to a funny spot where no one can reach.

Its probably good that burghausen has an easy to capture a point, fair b point and hard to capture c point. This way the points are progressively harder to capture and blu neither gets stuck on the first point nor rushes through all of them after a single breakthrough.

Probably for balance reasons but then Gas Passer exist and not permitted even though it's the weakest pyro's secondary and probably the weakest TF2 weapon as standalone weapon. But maybe nerf Jarate (and other weapons that should be permitted sense-wise but not balance-wise) instead ban it but TF2 currently only have 1 developer remain so that's probably last forever.

@@michaeljonathan9715 The Gas Passer should be allowed, yeah. You might even be able to argue for the Jetpack too. It doesn't look medieval at all but it would bring in an interesting niche while mechanically it's limited enough to not just ruin the gamemode....maybe.

Degroot Keep also has one of the best Trimping spots as when you're attacking, using the demoknight's charge to run into some rocks near the blu spawn allows you to fly right over the castle walls to reach point C early

The equipment hidden in the keep is what I think needs to be addressed for cp_DegrootKeep (either remove the medieval tag or give the gadget classes, engineer and spy, something productive to do, other than being a free kill for rampaging demomen). Also, pl_degrootkeep_rats needs to address the issue of being in a (modern) contemporary backyard setting, to the same degree. cp_Burghausen on the other hand, fits the medieval tag better.

Personally I don't really like Sandcastle. Being so close to the original layout is a little boring, and going through the underworld is both tedious and extremely overpowered (especially for the attackers). Just 1 meteor storm or magnet ball spell just trivializes defense which just makes rounds really short which means the server will reset constantly which then adds a ton of down time between rounds. Though to be fair the short rounds is a problem with current degroot keep too. Visually and conceptually Sandcastle is great but it's gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. I also can't help but feel like there's some missed opportunities too. A (heavily nerfed) version of the HHH running around (maybe with a knightly helmet over his pumpkin head) feels like it would have fit right in, and it might have made the field outside the castle more dangerous which would weaken Red's attacking power while also nerfing the power of the underworld since you'd be forced to make the choice to fight the Horsemann, make a B-line into Blu base or run past the Horsemann and into the portal. Or hell maybe the portal only opens after the Horsemann is killed so Red doesn't just get an automatic "I win" button. Green Skeletons (again would probably need to be nerfed) with some armour also seems like it would have fit the map too. And personally, the idea of a 3rd medieval army of hell zombies joining the fight just sounds cool. Or maybe they're all reskinned to look like little toys to fit in with the sandbox theme, whatever. I like the idea behind the map, I just wish more was done.

I have to separate the maps from the gameplay in my mind. I agree with how beautiful the maps are, especially Sandcastle. But I can't stand how bad TF2 melee hit reg is, and random crits are dumb. Also Berghausen is missing the Degroot Keep ambiance of weapons clashing and stuff, and it really drags down the map for me.
