I like Gibbs, but is he a future top 5 rb? Is a top 15 pick really worth a player that will provide similar value as tony pollard (different play styles, but comparable workloads). In order for a top 20 rb pick to work out, they need to be at minimum top 6 for 3 years which I just don’t see
@Preach_the_Gospel_7788 Жыл бұрын
@@tarvisson1989 Gibbs is better than Robinson because he is faster, more elusive, and a better pass receiving threat. Robinson was taken at 8, and Gibbs is better. I read that Gibbs was rated as a good choice at 6. So getting him at 12 and receiving the ability to draft an outstanding tight end at 34 with the trade down is fantastic. That is why Brad Holmes was slamming the table when Gibbs was selected. A famous top NFL Analyst said he is sure that Gibbs will have 2,000 receiving/run yards this season, and he believes Gibbs is better overall versus Robinson. A famous announcer/analyst and former player said the Lions had the best day one draft, and he cited selecting Gibbs as the key reason. Lastly, if Holmes and Dan Campell believe, with the great deal of first-hand information they have, that Gibbs is a great selection at 12, they are very, very likely to be correct. Regards, John

Gibbs has better breakaway track speed than Bijan. Bijan is definitely more squirrelly and better at absorbing contact when running between the tackles. Bijan definitely better suited to be a bell cow and imo a mix of Saquan + C-Mac. Gibbs is a better receiver, coming out of his breaks sharply, pulling ahead of safeties and linebackers, could be a legit slot receiver if he wanted to be. Gibbs-Kamara comparisons are well warranted.

@@jermaineparkman5263 absolutely. I was impressed by how skinny he got when he had to run between the tackles while the pocket got compressed. On his TD run vs the raiders, he was between the tackles and Crosby applied good pressure yet the defense still lost sight of him until he cut hard toward the right side pylon in the end zone. I previously said the Kamara comparison was apt, but there’s perhaps one slight difference - both of them have great contact balance; however Kamara sort of ping pongs off of contact whereas Gibbs spins out of contact. Bijan is the better pure RB. He's a 20+ carry a game, between the tackles or outside RB. Gibbs is a freak weapon that happens to line up at RB a lot but can do more than the average RB. He's a 10 carry, 5 catch a game guy (in The NFL). Who you prefer is based on what you want to do on offense and/or with the player. Am I the Tennessee Titans? Bijan. Am I the KC Chiefs? Gibbs. Bijan has the best vision and change of direction in a 2-3 yard box that I’ve seen since Barry Sanders (I’m that old) and I don’t say that lightly. Gibbs can not only be put in the slot, but also spread out wide and is the biggest offensive homerun threat in this draft. I’m a huge fan of both backs and I expect both of them to be game changers, barring injury. I’m probably one of the few people that wasn’t all that shocked to see them go early. As a diehard fan of 40+ years, I love Brad Holmes' approach, gameplan, and knowledge, and he has the stones to be aggressive and take risks in free agency and the draft. If I remember correctly, they've never had a GM do anything positive to improve the team. He hasn't missed any draft picks, technically. He drafted Onwuzarike in the 2nd round and Josh Pascal in the 3rd, fully understanding he was drafting injured players. Unfortunately, Onwuzarike missed WAY more time than expected, needing multiple back surgeries. Who knows when he'll be back, if at all. I don't think he'll even play a single snap for the Lions and release him. As for Pascal, he got healthy late in the season and played well for someone who missed significant time. Other than that, Holmes knocked it out of the park...again.

You have a slot receiver, dynamic running back and Elite playmaker. And Gibbs did it in the SEC.
@scottmonroe68 Жыл бұрын
So you're saying that it's a conspiracy to rob him of the fastest time ever at the combine based on the the clock on the TV screen being accurately sync'd with the video to within a couple tenths of a second... and that he's faster than world class speedsters that have ran in the 4.2s at the combine, like John Ross, Marquis Goodwin, Chris Johnson, etc. He ran a 4.36, which is still really fast for a RB.

Gibbs is a better receiver than a lot of receivers. He runs good routes and has great hands. The more you watch the more you can compare Robinson to L Tomlinson and Gibbs to J Charles or Austin Ekeler. Robinson is a 3 down workhorse type of back. He's going to catch the ball extremely well but is able to run 20+ times a game also. Tomlinson had 9 to 10 really productive years as an NFL running back and averaged 4.3 yards per carry and 7.6 yards per reception. Gibbs is a game breaker but a guy who needs to see limited carries to be most effective. 10 to 15 carries a game along with 5 to 10 receptions. Charles had 5 really productive years in the NFL but injuries limited his time. During those 5 years he carried the ball over 200 times and had around 40 receptions a year. Ekeler was used more in college than Gibbs with 4 seasons and 939 carries. In the pros though he's only gone over 200 carries twice in 6 seasons. Ekeler though is averaging over 60 receptions a year. Ekeler averages 4.6 yards per carry while Charles averaged 5.4 yards per carry. With a 17 game schedule next year, if Gibbs averages 10 carries a game that gives him 170 carries in the season. If he averages 4 receptions a game that is 68 for the season. Let's say he averages what Charles did which is 5 yards a carry, that is 850 yards for the season. And if he averages 9 yards a reception like Ekeler does that is 612 yards for the season. For Atlanta, I would limit Robinson's carries to the 250 to 270 range and his receptions to 50 to 60 range. If they do that then he could rush for about 1,200 yards and have 350 to 400 yards in receptions.

And against Alabama who is the closest to a NFL defense you’re gonna see in college outside of the catch and run on the last drive before the half he got shut down by Alabama. And that run was 18 yds. The other 20 carries he only had 39 yds. I mean it’s not really impressive in the big 12 when most defenses aren’t good. But he’s a hell of a player I just wouldn’t put him in that Fournette, AD and Zeke category when they came out of college like everybody trying to put him in

Did the commentator at 0:18 call him Bijan Johnson?
@laurabobo674 Жыл бұрын
The bottom line is that each back is going to the team that most wanted them. Detroit could have taken Robinson at 6, but they clearly wanted Gibbs because of his pass-catching ability. Ben Johnson, Detroit offense of coordinator, will find clever ways to use him either out of the backfield or lined up wide. Detroit didn't need Robinson because they have David Montgomery, who can run up the middle or come in for goal-line situations. Both will be excellent for their respective teams. Welcome to the D Gibbs!
@antwandukes Жыл бұрын
That's what I'm saying David Montgomery is pretty solid. To me they are going to use him the way they wanted to use D'Andre Swift. But Gibbs is a heck of an upgrade because he's faster and seems to have better vision and hands. Great pick.

@NewBirthhhh Жыл бұрын
The Falcons have a good runningback who emerged last year, Tyler Allegier. On top of that they have Cordarrele Patterson who gets utilized in a bunch of different ways. Bijan won’t get ran into the ground at all. Now that Swift gone Gibbs honestly might get reps than Bijan just used differently
@huntjl88 Жыл бұрын
Tell us you know nothing about the Falcons. Without telling us you know nothing about the Falcons. Last year Allgeier, their leading rusher, only had 38% of the rushes. Where as D Henry of the Titans carried the ball 72% of their rushes. Which was over 50% more times. Atlanta has a serious 1, 2, 3 punch when you add in Patterson, 695 yds in 2022. They should be able to keep all three fresh. All while punishing opposing defenses.
@NewBirthhhh Жыл бұрын
@@huntjl88 Yeah i think people just saw his skill set and talent and thought he was gon be like Barkley or CMC handling a 90% snap share. He’s in one of the best situations as a young runningback. Same way Kamara was being utilized as like a 50% guy who made the most out of every play. He’s gonna be fresh every series. Walking highlight reel season on the way and i can’t wait to see it.

Hold on man Bijan had the the talk for RBs for the last 5 months before the draft..Jamar Gibbs really hasn't gotten much shine at all . ..that why people were surprised when the lions picked him at 12, Gibbs kind of flew under tha radar but I been hearing about Bijan enough some are trying to compare him to LT before he's even played 1 NFL game.
@Postingam2 Жыл бұрын
Because bijan has the intangibles. He is literally the perfect RB prospect, good at everything and has never had a serious injury in his career. 1200-1800 yard rusher his rookie season and that’s splitting snaps with algeier and cp84

You can argue all day who’s the better back. At the end of the day it depends on what a teams needs are. For Detroit the better back is Gibbs hands down. That’s not a knock on Bijan. For Detroit Bijan is the same back as Monty, just better. When you have a running back by committee, you don’t want the backs to be the same. You want one that can bang out the tough yards and one that’s fast that can strike from anywhere. Thunder and lightning.

Gibbs would have gone late in the first round to a team like the Lions, but before the Lions had a chance to pick him there, the Lions had swept in front of them and stole the pick taking him at 12. High fives all around!

They are both great but Bijan may be the best RB since Barry Sanders. We shall see. You nailed it about the importance of his pass blocking value- the more he is out there, the more the opposing D has to worry about him and allocate players to cover him. It was a real treat to see him play live at UT games. Just imagine him running some of the plays Cordero Patterson made famous. It should be fun to watch the Falcons for years to come.

It's funny that Detroit took him at 12, and people think thats a reach, but if they had used 18 on him, or they had made the playoffs and drafted 24 or somethin, that would be fine... It's your first round pick either way! If it's a position you're looking to fill and some other team is just going to do it with their first pick if you don't, then it's not a reach.
@justintaylor3336 Жыл бұрын
gibbs is good, but 5'9 199 is not a plus if you want an every down back. kamara has 15 pounds on him. He is a good back, but will need to be careful of work load. The good part is that he is such a good receiver that he probably wont be asked to block that much
