Yeah, we were materially so much poorer but spiritually richer. And I'm not even talking about religion or new age stuff, just basic community, friendships and social freedom. You really don't know what you've got till it's gone.

Another treat from Classic Brit Telly. Thank you. I remember the title from a dim "long ago", and that the story was both intriguing and complicated. But no details. So it'll be great to see it as if for the first time.

And this one seems to have a bigger budget including a scene with food and drink. Scenes with people eating food are expensive to shoot (so to save costs, they are seen playing with the food and not actually eating) when you need to account for multiple takes. Here, they actually eat the food and drink the ginger ale, I mean, champagne.

I know i keep saying this but the 1970's were a completely different time to now. A visit to the dentist or a appointment with yr doctor face to face was possible even a council house was on the cards.....fast forward 50 years and we living in the current state of affairs. The mind boggles
@ClassicBritishTelly29 күн бұрын
Our favourite part is the bit in so many of these shows where not only is the doctor making a house call, but "will pop by on Friday to see how you are doing Mrs. Jones..." Different times!
@sarah_pings_witherby27 күн бұрын
I saw my GP last week and I have an NHS dentist, so I don’t really get all the soft focus reminiscences of the 70s - back in those good old days we had a prolonged recession; double digit inflation; power cuts; seemingly endless strikes and a 3 day week.

I enjoy mystery thrillers from this era, this included. The scene where Anouska Hempel cancels dinner and he goes chasing after her at the hotel is a bit dates and cringe worthy. "Why did she cancel?" Maybe she's not into you dude! The whole disappearance could be related to her sacking him off!

'her first visit to England . . .' In former times, as in this film, that's exactly what we said. Today, sadly, 99 per cent of folk (even Englishmen) would say 'her first visit to the UK', as if England as a country no longer exists. Long live England!
@LuciThomasHardylover-qx6tsАй бұрын
Or Britain. People say that someone is British when they mean English, I don't think that they do it to the Scots or Welsh as often? Or do they? 'They' usually being American or those who have taken American speech patterns. I am proud to be an English woman! Unless you scratch back too many generations and then like most English there's just a Heinz 57 mongrel behind the facade 😂
