Everlong is the perfect example to show that not every great song needs a guitar solo

This was about Dave’s rebound relationship after his divorce. He plays drums on it and Taylor Hawkins joined the band after the recording. Dave and Taylor were close friends. Taylor was a beast on the drums. You should watch it live. They record live and have many albums recorded to tape. He doubles his vocals - no auto tune and the backing vocals were done over a cell phone by his girlfriend at the time.

I've been a Foo fan since the first cd dropped. I grew up in the 70s, 13 in 1970. Sooo great to hear excellent rock in the 90s. Blasted it in my car to pick my son up from work at night. He started laughing and told me to turn it down. He could hear it from the door.

No tricks. Just Taylor and his drums. No loops. No computers. Just pure talent

It’s not Taylor on this song. Taylor hadn’t joined the band yet when this was recorded. The drummer was still William Goldsmith, but Dave didn’t like his drum parts so Dave re-recorded most of the drums on the album, including Everlong. Taylor joined soon after though and does appear in the music video.

I know it was Dave on the record, but Taylor did it live just like this.

The drums are talking to us. Dave plays the drums like the ancestors are guiding him.

It’s not about Kurt. Dave wrote this after his first divorce - looking back at the best of the best moments, thinking “If only moments like this could last forever”. Also, Taylor Hawkins joined the band between the recording and touring of this album. Dave played the drums on the whole record - best believe that shit is live :)

Yeah, that first part isn't true at all. The song is about his brief relationship with Louise Post of Veruca Salt. One of his favorite things they did together was play music. Grohl played all the instruments on the first album. While Taylor Hawkins joined in between the recording and touring of Foo Fighters debut album, he wasn't featured on any of their studio work until their third album, 1999's There Is Nothing Left to Lose.

Not exactly. The drummer who joined the Foos for touring the first record was William Goldsmith. He originally recorded the drum parts on The Colour and the Shape. Dave didn’t like his studio playing, so he re-recorded all the drums himself. Taylor joined for the touring cycle after the second record was released.

@@andrewkarp5067 um yeah hence them literally mentioning he joined between recording and touring. This song, being from that exact 2nd record.

Welcome to the foo family! The Foo Fighters are the musical offspring of Nirvana! (And that is an entirely different rabbit hole) Some of our favorite Foo Fighters songs include Best of you. Shame shame. My hero. All my life. Run. The sky is a neighborhood

Taylor Hawkins was a BEAST behind the drum kit, and he killed it live EVERY TIME! BUT...the first 2 albums were recorded before Taylor joined the Foo Fighters. Dave recorded all the drums for the first 2 albums. (He's a pretty good drummer, too. 🤣😝😁)
