Haha yep this has been confusing me as well. But I think it explains why I am not that good a player. I am stuck in this oh this piece is worth more than that piece no matter where it is. Even though I know that is not how tot play I struggle to get past it. Old habits.

I was hopelessly waiting for Anish to spectacularly come back into the game, because come on, the game is titled the Dutch immortal...only to realize Jordan is Dutch too. It was in this position that I realized I'm not only a bad chess player but an unimpressive decoder of video titles too :)

This is the most beautiful game I have seen in a long long while. First the turning defence into a sharp attack from that exchange sacrifice was just a beautiful thing to see. I think this game was fire works from that point on.

Simply brilliant! Reminds me of Fischer playing "dubious lines" such as Ruy Lopez exchange variation, which was "drawish" only because Fischer wasn't the opponent. (Bobby Fischer's record with the Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation 12 games: 9 wins, 3 draws, and 0 loses!) Van Foreest proved Nimzo-a3 can win against opponents who memorize supercomputer moves but don't consider an engine's reject-lines can win against mere mortals.

11:05 In my position I would consider Rf3 for the tactical threat of either winning the queen or delivering checkmate. Rf7 is the only decent defense against this threat, and for that matter Qg5 was important to prevent Bf5 as a defense after Rf7.

This line is a sneaky transformation into some f3 nimzo lines. It's not 100% but it has a lot of the same ideas, doubled c pawns, rook sac on f6 and strong kingside ideas.

The initial position was stacked to threaten a pawn that was never taken. Then it was shifted to position a knight on a square it never went to. The result, a beautiful checkmate that never happened. This is chess in 2022.

I knew Anish was going to lose the moment I saw all those pieces all the way over on the a-file just trying to win a pawn. It reminded of the famous game Fischer vs Myagmarsuren. Black put all their pieces on the a-file so Fischer went and crushed them on the kingside. Jorden did the same thing here. Learning from the greats!!
