I can explain that ending bit. Although it's actually even worse when you realize what IS happening. She's not a lesbian, she does like him as a cool guy, but she had her own goals through the movie, to go to the Cloud and do her own thing. Basically it's like a girl who maybe likes you but is more interested in furthering her career or personal life rather than looking for a relationship at the moment. Either way, you got the rejection bit correct. So Gene(Meh guy)is now upset and stuck as a Meh. So in order to save the day, he has to be full of emotion again so she goes back to tell him she's into him. But this just creates an even worse situation than not having a resolution. Now we have a movie giving horrific messages to children. For boys, you are nothing without a girl to claim as your own. For girls, forget about having your own dreams and aspirations just toss those aside to make an important guy happy. So let's all return to the 1920s everybody yay cause history was perfect then! Yeah...you can see what they were going for, but they completely missed the giant trainwreck right in front of them.

I'd say the reason why she rejected him was because they've only known each other for like, a few hours(I think. Not sure how time passes in Emoji world). But if that was what they were implying, they could've done a better job explaining that since it makes more sense then going "Its what I didn't say"

I have not watched the movie, nor do I plan on seeing it, but the way people are describing this plot point it seems to resemble a very popular trope with these kinds of movies. It's the one where two characters get really close, but person 1 is scared/emotionally immature to take things to the next level. Then person 2 gets discouraged and sulks until person 1 finally admits their attraction and the movie resolves. This seems to be a case where most of those steps are met, but the clear and satisfying conclusion just isn't there.

Time definitely runs a lot slower on the emoji world because it takes forever for Alex to send the message at the beginning and the phone to get deleted in the climax, when this all should take a fraction of a second. The emojis are unironically faster than light.

The more people shit-talk it the better, so maybe we can get it through the people who work at Sony Picture Animation's thick skulls that this kind of abysmal-quality shit is unacceptable. This movie is not just a massive middle finger to animation as a whole, but also to movies, cinema and art as a whole, and I'm really happy to see it doing so poorly. To explain why she rejected him before: when he was confessingbhisbfeelings tobher she seemed to agree at first. However when he said "just like in the fairy tales" she recoiled. She's a Princess Emoji and she's been trying to fight back against this aspect of her life. So when he brought up fairy tales it instantly reminded her of her status as a Princess and felt she had to reject him, despite liking him, because she didn't want it to be 'just like in the fairy tales'

Why would Sony copyright a lower than BS movie? Putting copyright on BS movies like Norm of the North is one thing, but doing it on a movie that had a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes is more than super duper aber-luper horrid. It is considered to be really nice to call the Emoji Movie terrible. Watching Paint Dry : The Movie would be more thrilling and exciting than the Emoji Movie. (Actually, for some reason, I find paint drying a bit enjoyable.) Burning 50 million dollars is more worthwhile than The Emoji Movie.
