Bonneville was for submarines this year, and nobody built one for that scenario. A couple of items after viewing a few videos of yours while sprinklers are running spraying water on chassis parts: A) Look at adding a steering dampener. Imagine what happens with the steering when catching a tire rut (bad salt) at speed. Your fire suit (and thumbs) will appreciate it. B1) Chain growth. You will be close at best with a new chain. After a few runs on the salt and it will be slapping from chain stretch. Easier to allow room now than later. B2) More chain guards = good. What happens with your chain at 275mph (even at 500cc) with salt flying around from the tire and into the chain. Shields are a good thing to divert salt away. B3) Chain lubrication. Water injection with a small pump might sound crazy but it helps clean the salt out during the run and keeps the chain cooler. B4) Changing chain on the salt sucks and especially if one has to do on a daily basis. Plan accordingly during design. C) Air intake. If pressured who really cares where the intake is! Normally aspirated via the nose intake through the cockpit and out the back (like Sam Wheeler did) = lots of work for minimal gain. Make sure you can clean it of debris and salt (blowing around in the paddock or little kids sticking things in the front intake vent.) and with a design to do so. Best is an air intake (think about your laminar flow and how to get the air to re-attach after) and into an airbox (calm the air) and then into the engine. A good design is worth 1.5 to 2.0psi of pressure. A bad system will lose you power or worse. Add a sensor to your airbox setup and monitor via electronics. D1) Design your cooling system to be able to drain quickly between runs and easily air bled out when refilling. (And while keeping the engine electronics off.) With a 14-gallon h2o tank in the big streamliner with packed ice at 42F at start of a run -- it is literally boiling hot at the end of a full pass. Drain it and replace as it won't cool down for a 2nd run even in a few hours. You have a baby tank in comparison, but it will get hotter through the day wrapped within all that bodywork. Auxiliary electric water pump for pushing water volume aren't bad things. E) Suspension travel indicator. Electronic is best but a manual system will pay dividends as well. From the seat almost impossible to feel pitch issues and truly impossible on a bumpy course. It is nice to know if the nose is running high and the tail is dragging low -- and especially before it goes flying like your flamed analysis spot on bad things. That is why you sneak up on speed records as you can monitor post run what happens with the front/rear pitch factor. F) Make sure tech inspectors can easily access the sparkplug holes for measuring stroke and bore if you should ever go to impound. Don't ask how this lesson was learned. G) I will admit I have no clue about KZbin algorithms, monetization of videos nor on how to be a good armchair quarterback. But I do know where I will be next August about this time for the next several decades. Good luck!

Adding control over the water pump sounds like a good idea, that would help the engine and oil temperature to get up to proper working temperature faster.
@bobroberts2371
@bobroberts2371 2 жыл бұрын
I think using water flow rate to adjust engine temp is a bad idea. Water temp leaving the engine is an average of the engines metal temp so you might end up with steam pockets in the cylinder head. Also, cooling systems need positive dynamic pressure beyond that of the rad cap. This is achieved by the restriction that an open thermostat provides. EDIT Thinking about this a bit more. Is the electric pump moving water to the chilled tank or just engine circulation? If to the chilled tank, pump speed might not be too much of an issue as it would be more like an electric fan on a water to air rad.

@@bobroberts2371 Many OEMs use variable speed coolant pumps, BMW is one of them. Not to say BMW's solution is all that great. Also, there should be some amount of flow 100% of the time, say 10-20% of rated current/flow for example... Physical thermostats are also not all that great. Active diverging valves are much better... Then, as needed, driven by inputs like throttle position, intake air temp, coolant temp(s), coolant pressure(s), oil temp(s) the coolant circulation pumps could be modulated as needed to meet targets.

To help load onto a trailer, try reversing your tow car up a set of ramps on the rear wheels. This will lower the trailer ramp angle, reducing the height that you will have to make up. Granted you will be loading uphill. We used this method on our track car, as the bumper would scrape the ramps. Anyway, great videos. Looking forward to more of the Jag. Keep up the good work.

I feel too many people take the enjoyment out of their own project because they start treating it as work and never manage to take that step back. Chapeau! Regarding the cooling: PC cooling experience tells me that pump speed is only very loosely coupled with cooling capacity.
