But it's also the one where the broad outlines of the show finally come into focus. Weird new faction, gotta figure out who they are. Mixed origins crew on a gunship, trolling around the solar system. Etc.

If they don't include it in the next episode, watch the scenes with Diogo and his uncle and pay close attention to what the uncle is listening to before he snaps.

Soooo space travel , ships are usually about the size of a 3+ story building , levels are orientated like floors going up from the drive cone . Ships are fast , really fast powered by ultra efficient fusion drives that use basically no fuel , you run out of food, water and air then food by like a x10 or x100 factor , ships can accelerate way faster than what humans can survive so earth ships are faster than Martians and Martians are faster than belters because they can survive the g-forces . Ships accelerate for the entire journey , accelerate towards the destination for the first leg of the journey then flip and decelerate , that way the crew always has at least some gravity .By constantly accelerating for the first half of a trip , travel time between points does not scale linearly as the speed is changing per second per second i.e. a 50,000 million klick journey isn't 100 times slower then a 50000000 click journey because your speed is changing by a constant rate each second of the trip for days, weeks or months .

The story about Shed, than I have read, is that The Expanse started out as an RPG, and the player who was playing Shed, could not continue playing, so the GM had to come up with a way to kill off the character. I really enjoy watching peoples reaction to Shed's death. You did not disappoint.

About patching hull breaches for real: You don’t have to have use a sticky adhesive (although you can). The ISS patch kit has hard backed patches with rubber seals that can be placed over a hole. The differential pressure will hold it in place. The hard part can be finding and getting to the hole. Not a problem when the hole is head sized right in the open.

A subtle thing. Destroying the Cant' and killing Shed removes "plot armor" from the cast. Anyone could die, Noone is safe. Gives real weight and tension to situations. Our heroes might NOT make it in the end.

After the first three episodes, I also developed a liking for Shed. It seemed like the story line was setting up the core group - the leader, the engineer, the pilot, the mechanic/muscle, the medic/healer. I certainly didn't expect any of the Canterbury survivors to be killed off, especially their medic.

PDC is Point Defense Cannon, it's those gatling guns. They are usually short range (relatively) for shooting down missiles or CQB (close-quarters battle). Long range weapons are missiles and railguns, Shed got killed by a rail projectile, it is used to puncture huge holes in ships. The juice Alex used is for high g burn to keep him conscious, Holden and the other crew passed out due to high g.

Railguns are close range guns. They don't show it well in the show but it's clear in the books but even Alex says so in this episode: "they are firing up the railguns this means they must be in CQB". They are right when they said that torpedoes could take hours to get to their target. Railguns works only when the enemy ship is in a range where you can shoot with a certain degree of accuracy or otherwise, despite how fast the tungsten slugs are (measurable fraction of C, ;D) they would still be easy to dodge if you were too far away.

When the railgun round took off Shed's head, notice there was no "explosive decompression." That's the way the physics really work...there would not be explosive decompression. The Mormon ship Nauvoo was built for interstellar travel, so it would be built with the most powerful communications and sensors ever built...that's why Fred Johnson used the Nauvoo's sensors to track the Donnager battle.

As far as I'm aware, the story behind Shed's death, is that the books didn't begin as a book, it began as a tabletop rpg the creators did, and the person who played the character of Shed stopped showing up, so they killed him off, and then they decided to make a book out of it and that's how the expanse started

The controllers they use are from a company called 3DConnexion. It is actually more appropriate as their products interface with 3D modeling programs and either manipulate an object in the model, or your position in the model space on all 6 degrees of freedom. This is exactly what you would need if you are trying to navigate a ship in 3D space.

2 things you NEED to know about this show: It's based as much in 100% reality/physics as possible. So no Star Wars in space, thrusters for everything to manuvere, things take large amounts to turn etc.. and 2 PDC Protective defence cannon (got forst word wrong but you get then gist ;) ) The realism is what makes it such a good grounded show :)
