About The Expanse:
The disappearance of rich-girl-turned-political-activist Julie Mao links the lives of Ceres detective Joe Miller (Thomas Jane), accidental ship captain James Holden (Steven Strait) and U.N. politician Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo). Amidst political tension between Earth, Mars and the Belt, they unravel the single greatest conspiracy of all time.
About The Expanse Seasons 2:
In this noir thriller set two hundred years in the future, the case of a missing young woman leads a washed-up detective across the solar system to uncover the greatest conspiracy in human history.
About The Expanse Seasons 3:
As the Rocinante crew digs deeper into the search for Prax's missing daughter, the war between Earth and Mars turns deadly in ways the solar system has never seen. But a new threat in the outer reaches of the Belt could prove much more dangerous, threatening to test the very future of humanity.
About The Expanse Seasons 4:
Season 4 of The Expanse, its first as a global Amazon Original, begins a new chapter for the series with the crew of the Rocinante on a mission from the U.N. to explore new worlds beyond the Ring Gate. Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt. Ilus is the first of these planets, one rich with natural resources but also marked by the ruins of a long dead alien civilization. While Earthers, Martians and Belters maneuver to colonize Ilus and its natural resources, these early explorers don’t understand this new world and are unaware of the larger dangers that await them.
About The Expanse Seasons 5:
In different parts of the Solar System, the crew of the Rocinante and their allies confront the sins of their past, while Marco Inaros unleashes an attack that will alter the future of Earth, Mars, the Belt, and the worlds beyond the Ring.

To expand on the science of Naomi's jump That Ty brought up: If you fully exhale, it minimizes the lung damage (but there still will be some). All moisture on your skin and eyes boils off from lack of pressure, cooling you. The sun's radiation can give you really bad sunburn very quickly. Most or all capillaries at the surface of your skin and eyes could burst, but not hard enough to break the skin, it would be like having a hickey all over your body. Maybe your eardrums would rupture if you aren't able to equalize the pressure fast enough. Within 15 seconds you black out. Luckily Naomi had a vial of hyperoxygenated blood to keep her conscious (they set that up earlier in the season when Holden gave it to Monica). But even so, after 30 seconds you start getting permanent damage. After 90 seconds you are dead Here's the story of someone who was accidentally exposed to total vacuum as part of a NASA test: www.popularmechanics.com/space/a24127/nasa-vacuum-exposure/ Other people have counted how long the scene took and it was a little over a minute, so it's possible that it was either in slow motion, or that they fudged the amount of time it took because it would be disappointing to viewers if it literally only took 15 to 30 seconds
@deadlyecho
@deadlyecho 3 жыл бұрын
If you noticed, Ty said that you can survive 15 sec ~ 30 sec without air due to the air in your blood and then you pass out and couple of minutes later and then die, so you have to calculate, from the moment she jumped to the moment she took the hyperated oxygen shot, then assuming that would give her extra 15 sec ~ 30 sec. The scene was exactly 1 min long and of course they have to make it in slow motion otherwise it will be so fast and be a bad experience instead.
@dapeach06
@dapeach06 3 жыл бұрын
@Zwenk Wiel when you dive, even if you exhale, there is still air in your lungs, and the limit of how long you can hold your breath is when there is too much CO2 built up for you to hold your breath anymore, or when that air left in your lungs is fully used up, whichever comes first (usually the CO2). There's also the mammalian dive reflex, which slows down your oxygen use when immersed in water, and this can be purposely honed further until you can get more and more out of each lungful. When exposed to vacuum, ALL of the oxygen in your lungs is gone instantly, and you're only left with the oxygen already in your bloodstream. That blood only gives you 15 seconds. I'm both cases, you want to hyperventilate beforehand, to get as much oxygen into your blood, and as little CO2, as possible. However, this is dangerous to do when diving, because it can give you a false sense of how long you can hold your breath, and you might run out of leftover air before the CO2 buildup tells you to surface. Source: I was certified as a NAUI freediving instructor, though it was 6 years ago

First time I read the books I was googling every couple of paragraphs or so and learned more science-stuff by the end of the first book than I ever did from school. I learned things I always wondered about but didn't know how to contextualize enough to even ask the question. This vacuum scene in the book is full of details about oxygenated blood and why she had to empty her lungs, the expected physical effects in chronological order, and so on. Totally fascinating.

@elkapro6534
@elkapro6534 3 жыл бұрын
@@rubenestradavalencia3306 temperature is not an issue, because the only way human body can lose heat in vacuum is radiation, which is really slow. I assume (would have to compute/google it), you have at least 1 hour before you freeze. The pressure differential is measly 1 atmosphere, acting on pretty small area of human body. It would be like wind. Rest is explained in the video.

Over a lifetime Cyn has been feeling the effects of the people in his life being torn apart & seeing his own role in the damage. In these last moments you see him desperately trying to hold all of the pieces together, believing he can (or perhaps must) despite the impossible conflicts. In this moment, having seen her almost suicide and then abandon years ago, he does the only thing he can think in the momen protect his "family". Marco and Jim are SO alike. They are mirror images of each other-- the light (Holden) and the dark (Marco). • They are both leaders of men-- Holden is reluctant, but it's an integral part of his genetic programming. Marco also has that leadership baked into his nature. Conversely to Holden, he craves the role for ego gratification. • Holden willingly sacrificed himself.for humanity. Marco is willing to sacrifice everyone else for his idea of what is best for his people. Naomi is drawn to men who are far bigger than the sum of their parts. Losing her was Marco's greatest loss and in this episode it's very clear, from Keon's characterization of him, that he deeply loved her and does regret driving her away, but now that love has twisted into rage and jealousy because she not only left him, she is now in love with a man who is a better version of him.

I really liked the way Keon and Dom played that scene in the cell. It was like magnets opposing each other and simultaneously two people driving their knives deeper into one another. Just brilliant. It felt like two people were discussing different films. Naomi was describing a horror while Marco was describing a gothic romance. The genuine disconnect was electric and powerful.

I would love an episode where Ty digs into Holden's brain, there's a lot to talk about there. People like to think of themselves as someone who 'does the right thing' but that tends to go right out the window when 'the right thing' turns out to be hard, or involves personal risk, or when the people around them are doing something different. It sucks when you're standing up and everyone else is quietly backing out of the room. That path is hard and more often than not you won't get any praise or thanks for walking it. Holden fucks up a lot, but not because he leaves the path. And when he strays from it even a little, you feel what a big deal it is, even if the same thing in someone else wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

Though I am a man, I don't think it's reductive at all to think a woman may have the tools both naturally and from potential experience, to better empathise with the maternal hell ride that Dom had to portray as Naomi. The scene with Cyn hit me like a brick wall. I think it's exciting and enjoyable to talk about how our differences in gender, impact the stories we tell and how we share them. Every story has multiple perspectives. Marco likely felt justified in his paternal instinct to keep his family together, but it would be impossible for him to know how Naomi felt. Simply because, he is not a mother. The fact this is also reflected in the choice of director, I find that amazing. It was a pleasure to watch, and I thank you Marisol Adler Brilliant show, brilliant after show talks too :)

The only part of the moment when Naomi goes to the airlock that I had trouble with was right before that she's put back in her cell, presumably locked in, but then cut to next she's seen is entering the airlock on the camera. Just couldn't suspend my disbelief that after that confrontation she would be put in her cell but left to continue moving about freely. Beyond that my only issue with this episode was when Bobbie tosses that bullet behind her, making it a potential lose danger during high G movements, just doesn't seem like the kind of thing a spacer let alone a trained Marine would do. Still, I'm loving the story progression of this season, and enjoy every one of these aftershow discussions.

But, then again we only found out about this after the season was filmed... There's also the cup from which Monica was drinking while talking to Holden. It was left on the table when they left the kitchen just before they went into pursuit of the ship. I can't remeber if those have a magnetic bottom :)

With any well made ship, that does high g maneuvers, it would have some type of magnets to catch debris/anything that broke off inside the ship. Otherwise any damage inside the craft would kill the pilot or navigator. Ever wonder why so many items are just left on tables/random areas on many of the ships? They do not answer every question.......but there are hints given about many, many pieces of tech. I won't say what episode has this specific 'tech' but its very clearly there. 😉
