The little pills that the Martian interrogator was taking are focus drugs. They make him more attuned to details so he can pick apart people's reactions during the interrogation.

During Holden's interrogation, there was a moment when Holden's eye focused just like Lopez' did. It broke Lopez' stride to see it. My interpretation is that Holden can focus without chemical aids, possibly as a result of having been genetically engineered by his 8 parents. 2

@@TheDetailsMatter He wasn't engineered though. There's nothing "special" in Holden's genetics beyond the fact that he's a hodgepodge of 8 people. Besides, people can experience intense focus without chemical supplement all the time, what the focus drugs do is make that state of intense focus the default while the drug lasts. Anyone can focus intensely on another person or an external stimuli.

Zev Benjamin. Nothing special that we've been told of yet. But the fact that he was constructed in a petrie dish rather than conceived during sex leaves open the possibility of a little something extra having been tossed in somewhere, whether by accident or design. The level of his sudden focus was enough to surprise Lopez. That tells me it was more than an ordinary response. 2

A scene I love in this episode is when Chrisjen (the UN ambassador) knows all the chess moves of the game based on one piece of information. 🤯 Mars didn't blow up the Cant because they took inventory, because they didn't give anyone shit, because a lot of phone calls were made, because I told this dude that the other dude had something he wasn't supposed to have. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯👌👌👌👏👏👏👏 Just brilliant. She's wonderfully written and acted.

The pill was a focus drug. The interrogator presumably got everyone's information via intel collected by Martian Military Intelligence. The drug just helped him sharpen all of his senses for the purposes of reading/manipulating the prisoners. As far as missing anything, I don't think it's fair to say one way or the other (spoilers!) but I can say that for the most part you guys have been very perceptive and attentive. It's refreshing that even when you guys are wrong, you've at least made reasonable assumptions. Finally, way to go, Nikki! You've come a long way from the early days of GoT reactions. I was afraid you were gonna break down when they impaled Havelock. But you handled it like a champ! LOL (2)

I agree that they should try to pay closer attention to what is seemingly unimportant dialog, since that dialog frequently provides clues to the mysteries in the show. Fortunately, Steven re-watches the episodes when he edits the videos, so he has a good chance to notice the clues then. (2)

Jared Harris who plays Anderson Dawes is an amazing actor in Chernobyl. I didnt know much about him but he has been in a lot of things. I only saw his great performance in Chernobyl 2 weeks ago and all your reactions to that mini-series. I also like your minds trying to figure out the mystery as you called it. It like the game CLUE - it was the maid in the kitchen with the bazooka. I like the finger pointing with Earth says it is Mars, Mars says its the belt. The belt blames both of them. And now the fight with Jim blaming Naomi. Amos blaming Holden. Everyone is a spy, a rat and the one guy hiding from drug dealers. I love it all. Sucks for Havelock getting the spear in the chest. He was just trying to learn the langauge from the prostitute woman.

Yes, the pill made him hyper focused to pick up on micro expressions in hopes of detecting lies. Regarding Holden's message - Alex said the jammers were in range. But, they may not have been turned on at the time. Love your reactions and you are doing a good job keeping up with what's going on. Asking too many questions will literally just make you more confused. You'll go down rabbit trails that lead you further away from the truth. Remember that this season is a true mystery. You're not supposed know what's happening. It's a pure first person experience from the perspective of the characters - you make discoveries as they do.

The pill the interrogator takes is a "focus drug" that allows him to pick up on the tiniest of micro-expressions, including pupil-dilation, drops of perspiration, lip-twitches, etc.

Love that you're doing this show. I remember as I first got into it, I was a bit ho-hum; so many threads to follow and I wasn't sure why I should care about any of it. Then once the two storylines of the investigator and the crew of the Roci meet, I was hooked. It's wonderful to have an adult scyfy series to delve into, with enough action and character development to make the journey worthwhile. Stay tuned...

I've said before touching on what steve said, no one in the expanse makes "stupid" decisions, they can make bad ones, but never "walking dead level" stupid. and the show makes you understand why that character did those things, to the point there's only a handful of legit "baddies" in the show :)
