For sure. The idea that the individual or the minority must be disregarded in the name of the "common good" has been a common denominator for some of the worst atrocities in history. It's a convenient excuse to get people to support evil, because they think the ends will justify the means. Evil is evil, no matter what your cause supposedly is.

What you may be thinking of is the general idea of Christian generosity, in which, as seen by the early church, the believers would sell their good and give their funds to the church in order to meet the needs of other struggling believers. That is drastically different from a government-enforced redistribution of wealth in order to create an artificial equality of outcome among the citizenry. You see? one is rooted in love, while the other is rooted in coercion and fear (and theft, if you really think about it). Capitalism is the system that is sold at gunpoint. An example would be what happened in Chile. Chile at one point became a socialist society, this socialist system was democratically elected by the citizens. However, the United States did not like socialism, so they forcibly overthrew the democratically elected socialist government and replaced it with a capitalist government that murdered tens of thousands of civilians. This new capitalist government was NOT democratically elected, it was forced upon the Chilean people at gunpoint. Also, forcing a socialist or communist system with guns and violence is justified. Capitalism is the number 1 threat to humanity and destroying the capitalist system with guns and violence is completely justified and is an act of self-defense. The Chile example I gave is the exception, not the rule, the chances of a socialist or communist system being democratically put in place is extremely low. As of right now, if we want to implement socialism and eventually communism, the working class needs to organize and arm themselves. One last thing, the people who would be forcing a socialist and eventually communist system at gunpoint would be the working class, which makes up 99% of the population. The ones being held at gunpoint would be the ruling class, which makes up 0.1% of the population. Whenever a capitalist system is forcibly implemented through guns, the ones being held at gunpoint are the working class, and the ones holding the guns are the ruling class.

And what was the first thing that happened after Moses decended with the ten commandments? They replaced god with a golden claf. A hollow replacement for god that looks nice on first glance, but holds no value or truth. I don't see a big difference between an idol and an ideology. Fact is you could not get ultra rich by any stretch of the means if you're a person with any kind of empathy. So basically if you could make so much money that you know you're great great great great great great grandchildren could not possibly spend it all even if they tried yet you let most of the world just suffer in poverty and you're okay with that, you are not an empathic person. You are a psychopath like the ones that rule the world because good people with empathy can't find it in them to be enough of a monster to take the power away from psychopaths. Point is; talk to communists. They will make it very clear what they think of the democrats and you may actually learn a thing or two instead of having to rely on hearsay of a psychologist who thinks being good at one thing means being good at another thing regardless of how uneducated he is. I mean, have you even ever read Adam Smith’s SECOND book? The one people pretty much don’t know even exists? Go ahead, take a look. The ends of capitalism justify the means by which they are achieved - does that make capitalism “evil”? I don’t think a lot of big ideologies are really evil. The roots of fasc*sm for example are today perhaps some of most misunderstood set of ideas on earth because people associate it with evil and yet so many people are simultaneously practically obsessed with birth rates, not falling behind as a society and talk about being afraid or desiring to be strong - are these people evil? Is imperialism evil? Is colonialism evil? Is communism evil, is democracy evil, is authoritarianism or liberalism evil? I think all of these ideologies can be evil and all of them can be good and everything in between, it depends on your perspective as much as in the ideology itself. The reason why I say this is because if people assume something is evil they often do not engage with it and loose out on important lessons. I am a centrist not in the sense of only thinking in terms of “balance” but in the sense of not liking big ideologies being portrayed as perfect or evil. There are an immense number of branches of, for example capitalist and communist schools and many further variants to the point where identifying one singular idea often becomes a rhetorically impossible task. Individualism is not evil, neither is collectivism, the methods used are what help us define these things better but even they are far from perfect measurements.

I fully agree with the Nazism part, but fully disagree with the communist part. Capitalism is what leads us to hell. Capitalism is not about freedom or the individual, it is about making more profit for 0.1% of the population by any means necessary. In capitalism, there is no freedom, the workers who actually MAKE the products are not allowed to dictate what happens to those products and how they are sold. People are FORCED to work jobs they hate in order to not die of starvation or thirst. Workers are NOT payed according to the value they provide, they are payed as little as possible and the majority of their deserved pay gets stolen to fill the pockets of the ruling class. This means that hard work does not matter in capitalism, the ruling class reaps the rewards of your hard work. The ruling class do not contribute ANYTHING GOOD to society. The ruling class contributes to the continued misery of the majority of humanity. Yet despite their lack of good contribution to society, they are the ones dictating society, they are the ones with all of the money. I thought capitalism rewarded hard work? Capitalism also demands infinite growth on a finite planet. It needs to be constantly fed more profit and as quickly as possible, regardless of it's affects on human well being. In order to do this, capitalism extracts finite resources from our planet and uses them up at a fast speed in order to make a profit. Capitalism is making our environment slowly uninhabitable. Capitalism has killed FAR more people than communism ever has and communism has saved FAR more people than capitalism ever "has".

How are we the ones lacking in independent thought? Ur not special for supporting capitalism in a capitalist society.
@jtmmmm27
@jtmmmm27 Жыл бұрын
@@cyberneticsiren It’s nothing to do with the specific politics of these ideologies, the problem lies with the absolute “truth” that they are based upon that inevitably leads to corruption. The difference between Communism vs Capitalism in this regard is that if it’s not working in capitalism then it will be out competed by something more competent (not necessarily something perfect) where as if something isn’t working under Communism then whatever is ready to improve the system is attacked by those with the absolute power bestowed upon them by the population to protect their own positions of power. There is a direct comparison to be made where Capitalist systems act like the Scientific community where all ideas are subject to scrutiny from all people and if they can find a hole in a current theory then they are free to formulate their own and out compete the old inefficient one. Communism on the other hand plays out much like a clandestine theocracy where you can only improve the current systems with the existing paradigms of the current ideology and to act outside of those paradigms will see you punished as a blasphemer.

Be mindful that the former USSR which called itself a socialist state was anything but a socialist regime. Likewise, Nazi Germany.

Na, the issue is that the USA is still running mid 20th century capitalism and expects it to just work. There is a reason why Europe is more social and overall different from the USA that we had to deal with the fallout of having capitalism, monarchism, imperialism, fasc*sm ( which imo. kind of belongs close to imperialism though most people will not agree in an academic setting and I respect that this is the dominant opinion on the matter ) and communism much more intimately as opposed to mainly just discussing its impact from the side lines. The USA for example never had to conclude its imperialism chapter via outside pressure, it merely evolved because there were basically no natives left, it finished what the original settlers started and conquered an empire which it then settled and today is a fairly consolidated state. Likewise, it never had to deal with the fallout of having a really powerful monarch with armies that were too strong to be defeated and not an ocean away while being busy fighting a major war, it never had to deal with communism because thanks to the WWs destroying its main competition which was able to delay the effects of competitive international trade which is now, also thanks to a lack of regulations, creating very uncomfortable positions for so many younger US-citizens. I am leaving out a mountain worth of factors but basically the youth in Europe, the youth usually being the people with the most to gain and the least to loose, has a well known alternative as opposed to just being familiar with unregulated capitalism and of course a couple of communist theories and the comparisons to Europe. In short: the USA was able to avoid a discussion Europe was forced to have in the after math or the world wars. It had once given a couple of meaningful answers too around the same time but eventually abandoned these lessons. Also keep in mind that I am currently incredibly tired so apologies for the rough outline.

I think I need to mention that George Orwell joined a Trotskyist militia in the Spanish Civil War that later became known for fighting the communists almost as much as the fascists. And then the guy who helped him publish his memoir of that experience was an MI6 agent, and the guy who got the first English translation of Mein Kampf published.

The problem is that communism usually devolves into things like dictatorships cause humans are very fallible. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try for a utopian society, just that we need to be careful on the steps because they are greased by greed

So we should really be careful, because a utopia has never been done, so we don't know how it can be done right now. If the comunist utopia will exist, I think it won't in decades but in many centuries.

@@thenewjoe7620 The problems of democracies do not remove the sins of communism, neither what I said. The fact that you are able to write this is proof. If you expressed anything like it in Soviet Russia, high chances are that you become an enemy of the state / party. Besides, whatever you mean with "things changed"? All goverments, no matter how incompetent they can be, are responsible for something. Good or bad. "Change" is one of the few things in history that actually does not change. Funnily enough, socialist examples tend to do it for the worst in many aspects.

@@pannik_lucas you have a western skew of communism. Communism tenets do not have anything to do with oppression or repression, that is bad actors in power. Do you think your democracy as it stands today, is free, or just any better that what say the CPC is? How many poor, homeless, addicts are in the west . Compare that to communism.. These same problems do not exist anymore. And don't go back to Stalin and Mao, because unfortunately if it wasn't for them and what they did in their countries, Russia and China couldn't be who they are today. The large famines, always pointing to how evil communism is, was just the industrialization of society, without proper thinking of consequences

Common good has to be specified. For me : - Promoting everyone's Free Will on all aspects of their lives, as long as it doesn't trample the freedom and security of others. - Being inclusive and know that we are All One. Which doesn't mean we necessarily agree on everything, but that we can respect each other nonetheless. This would be a good start
@kburns2470

The only thing that worries me in your comment is the "being inclusive" bit, though I think you mean it in the good sense, in the former sense of what it used to mean, which is a good thing. The term has been so twisted and butchered in our times that it raises concerns now when we hear it. The term is now mostly used by bigoted people - actually bigoted, as in the sense of being intolerant towards and unwilling to consider others' viewpoints and thoughtful criticisms of their own views - which is really something we need to change. We need to take back these kinds of words and use them in their original, sensible meanings.

No one needs to be inclusive, V 14; they simply need NOT BE exclusionary with laws. the second you start thinking of the collective, you instigate tribalism, groupthink and identity politics which leads EVERYONE down the path of destruction. our constitution exists to PROTECT THE INDIVIDUAL, not to PROMOTE INCLUSION. If i want to be alone, read books, practice witchcraft and eat insects and not be bothered, shouldn't i have that option?

Thats how i generally conceive of the difference between the 2. The fascist perspective is that the strongest are most deserving, and the communist perspective is that the weakest are the most deserving. The emphasis of what is important are an opposing binary, and by definition theyre within the same presupposition of things being deserved based on the general idea of "success", but who is deciding how much of what is deserved by who is always the problem, and we're certain that a centralized all-powerful organisation isnt the thing to do.

Communism persecuted all people - based on class, origin, nationality, language , religion, wealth, occupation, political affiliation, status, family membership, friendship… at any single point anyone could find itself on the other side of the interrogation table and behind bars - There is a famous Soviet prison joke : guard escorts prisoner to his cell after he was sentenced to 25 years and asks - what did you got sentenced for ? Prisoner says- well for nothing ! -no, you are wrong - for nothing they give only 10 years !
